Trouble II
In trouble with youKim Kibum
Kibum came out from the bathroom pulling his pants up to his hips and buttoning them. He sent Soo Mi a glance before he collected her clothes from the floor of his bedroom and her from the bed.
He looked at them smiling. She always liked to match her and bra and they were usually the most adorable things. This time it had white with soft pink dots. He didn’t even notice the previous night, too focused on her and in what they were doing instead of her clothes.
It amused him how he knew random facts like that about her, things a guy shouldn’t know about a girl that is only a friend. When he sometimes mentioned what he knew about her his friends would judge him and find it weird. A man and a woman couldn’t be only friends. But for Kibum that’s what Soo Mi was, his most special friend and that is why he knew exactly what he had to do once she stopped pretending that she was sleeping.
Because she was pretending, hiding her embarrassed self under the covers for as long as possible.
“Soo Mi get dressed.” He said softly placing the clothes over her body and then he turned around. “I’m not watching.” It was stupid since he saw all he had to see but if it made her feel better and more comfortable he would do it. “Get dressed. We need to talk.”
He heard noise and Kibum knew that she was getting dressed.
“Morning.” She said with a tiny voice and he grinned. Seeing Soo Mi embarrassed like that was a rare thing, something he saw a few times before, like when she ripped her pants during gym class and he lend her his hoodie for her to tie around her waist, or when she went against the glass door of the coffee shop in front of her crush and Kibum pretended that he pushed her against it so she wouldn’t seem like an idiot.
When he thought about it, he was always there for her like she was always there for him.
That was the reason he didn’t regret that night at all and he hoped she didn’t either. It made sense in a way that he was also present at her first night with a man, that he was also a part of it, the main part of it. She deserved all the love in the world, a man that took care of her like she needed and a good first experience and he believed he did well the previous night.
Besides it was good and he couldn’t complain either.
“I’m dressed.” She said with a tiny voice and Kibum turned around. Her eyes fell immediately on his bare chest, her bed hair and rosy cheeks made her look like the little girl that was his first love.
“Should I put my sweater on?”
She saw him like that before but apparently it bothered her now.
“No. it’s ok!” She teared her eyes from his chest and back to his face but still Kibum grabbed his sweater and pulled it down his body.
“Do you remember what happened last night?” He needed to be sure since she was a little tipsy.
“I do. I was drunk but not that drunk.”
“Do you regret it?” There was no point avoiding that question. He liked to go straight to the point.
She didn’t answer immediately looking at him as if she was a little girl and Kibum ran his finger through his hair fixing it.
“No…” She answered eyeing him weirdly and Kibum stopped what he was doing and gave his full attention back to her.
“I mean…it was…” Seeing Soo Mi stutter was funny.
“I don’t regret it either! I meant what I said last night…however…”
He sat on the bed and since she didn’t move they stayed really close side by side.
“You are my best friend.” He said so close to her that he could smell the sweet scent of her hair. Didn’t matter, he could smell it all night. “You are my best friend ever. You are like my real sister!” She widened her eyes blushing deeply and he realized that maybe those weren’t the right words “I mean…” Kibum closed his eyes and played with his fingers “You don’t sleep with your sister!” He laughed softly.
“I know!” Soo Mi helped “I know what you mean. It’s more than a normal friendship!”
“Yes…family…”
“Like a cousin or something?!”
Cousins sometimes would get married, right?! Maybe distant relatives…Not that he wanted to marry her!
“Right, something less scary and more legal!”
She laughed at his comment and he sighed of relief. They were back to normal and that crazy night of didn’t ruin everything.
“I want everything to stay the same, that we can still be friends.” Kibum added “I know that lately I’m not by your side much, that I’m here in London and you in Daegu but, once I finish this and go back to Korea I’ll compensate you. I don’t want what we have to be ruined with futilities…like….you know deeper feelings, romantic ones.”
She tilted her head raising an eyebrow and Kibum pursed his lips “Do you understand what I mean?”
She nodded her head slowly and he patted her thigh a bit awkwardly.
“It happened, we don’t regret it but we should never do it again!”
“Or tell anyone!” She added.
“Well…” He couldn’t imagine him telling that to his friends. They would scream “I told you so. You wanted to get into her pants since the start!”
“Not our grandparents for sure! They would…”
“Love it too much!” She finished for him and both laughed.
Ever since they were little everyone in their neighborhood seemed to either think they were a couple or want them to be one.
“So…friends? Deal?” He offered her his hand and waited for her to hold it to seal the deal.
“No more kissing or …” She mumbled and Kibum swallowed hard trying to not think about the previous night.
She placed her hand in his and he grabbed her smaller and warm one, the same hand that touched him the previous night, the same one he held every time they would play in the swing and she was too scared to fall. “Yes. No kissing, no .”
“Friends! Deal!”
Nae Soo Mi
Soo Mi’s eyes were like two huge balls since she couldn’t stop admiring everything around her.
After a very british breakfast Kibum took her out to visit London. He showed her around the city, they saw the Big Ben and took dozens of pictures together on one of London’s several bridges that crossed the River Thames.
Now, after a huge queue where they played games trying to guess what the other people around them did as a profession they were inside one of the London Eye’s capsules.
“Look!” Kibum stood up and approached the glass calling her to him. She did it immediately ignoring the other tourists since the capsule was full.
He touched the glass and pointed at the buildings in the distance.
“London is at our feet.” He said enthusiastically. He loved to travel and he always wanted to visit London and it warmed her inside to know that his love for it didn’t falter even though he now lived in it. “That brown building, the one next to the big red one…can you see it?”
She placed her fingers in the glass and nodded her head.
“That’s where I’m studying, the next one on the left…” he kept talking and explaining what some of the buildings they could see from there where, but Soo Mi wasn’t listening anymore. Her eyes were on the building, sometimes moving to him, to his beautiful lips while he spoke, to his bright eyes when he smiled, but her attention was on the way her fingers felt next to his on the glass.
It was so weird since they held hands before, since they always did a lot of skinship and that didn’t seem to be a big thing for Kibum. And it wasn’t for her before, at least not until that day.
Maybe the fact that they were always so touchy with each other explained why it felt so normal to hug him, to kiss him passionately to let him caress her body and do the same back, to have with him.
She swallowed hard taking her hand away from the glass.
“So what do you think?” He finished with a question, that she didn’t know how to answer since she didn’t hear anything. He was completely oblivious to the way their hands were touching and that it messed up her mind.
“I think it’s great!” She blurted out hoping that that was the right answer.
He fixed her beanie on her head and ran his fingers over her red ears. “It’s cold but I think it will be awesome. They always have several Christmas fairs close by too!”
“Great!” Soo Mi answered and Kibum looked out of the capsule smiling and admiring the view in front of him.
Soo Mi tried to do the same but she was feeling weird. For some strange reason his touch felt a lot different now that it did before.
It burned her; it made her body temperature rise, her heart beat a lot faster. It was as if her body was reprogrammed to have a different reaction to his presence now.
ual desire?!
Maybe sleeping with Kibum woke up a part of her she didn’t know about.
Kim Kibum
The rest of the day went by so quickly because both of them were having a lot of fun together. Kibum showed several of his favorite places in London to Soo Mi and they stopped to drink tea and eat a piece of cake in one of the bakeries he loved the most.
London wasn’t only the place where he was studying he felt as if it was his second home.
“You know a lot of bakeries here.” She remarked while they walked side by side admiring the small street vendors of a Christmas fair, marking their way in the snowy path.
“It’s part of my learning as a student. I check several bakeries and their products. It’s like learning by testing the competitors. Well they will be in the future when I have my own bakery.”
“So every day you go and eat a piece of cake? You will get fat!”
“Hey!” he complained pushing her by her shoulder softly “I’m keeping track of my weight. Besides I only visit them like once or twice a week, mostly when I have dates.”
“Dates…” She mumbled to herself eyeing the path in front of her and Kibum patted her head over her beanie. She was once again thinking about her stupid ex.
“Are you hungry? Shall we have dinner? There is a place nearby with huge and delicious pizza!”
She didn’t answer instead she cutely ran to the railing and admired the big skating rink in front of her.
Several couples and kids were skating there.
He watched her curiously wondering what she was thinking and placed his hands on the cold railing beside hers.
She moved her eyes from a couple skating nearby to him.
“I’m sorry.” Kibum said placing a hand on her shoulder.
“What?” She looked blankly at him.
“You are thinking about Ilsung right?”
Soo Mi turned to him without saying anything and for a second he thought that maybe he was wrong and she was thinking about someone else.
“Should we get our revenge on him?” He wouldn’t see it but that silly idea would probably make her smile and that was the most important thing at the moment.
“What?”
“Go do it! Go ice skating! Go have fun!”
“Are you insane?” She chuckled drifting her eyes to the skating rink “You know I was always awful at it. I might break a leg.”
“That’s why you will do it with me!” Kibum said firmly as if he was an expert at it when he was as awful as she was.
She didn’t complain smiling softly seeming to like the idea so Kibum grabbed her hand “Let’s go!”
Nae Soo Mi
They moved around the rink for several minutes, with Kibum slowly getting the hang of it and with her still being awful at it but managing to follow a little hesitantly grabbing his arms once in awhile for support.
It didn’t matter that she fell several times or that she was way worse at it that everyone in the rink. Soo Mi was having fun and Kibum too, both giggling, holding onto each other and chatting.
Kibum was a few steps away from her and she managed to slowly catch up with him and he looked at her proudly. “Look at you! Having fun and you don’t even need that !”
She laughed out loud and he did a small spin, pretending to be Kim Yuna and skated around her laughing heartily like only he could do.
“I’m so good at this now!”
“You are always good at everything! It’s so unfair!”
Kibum had a special gift ever since they were little. He would try a new thing for the first time and after a while he would be amazingly good at it. He was talented in drawing, he could cook, he learned languages easily and he could even dance and sing.
It was as if he was born to be big, to do marvelous things. She used to say that to him but he always ignored her saying that it was all thanks to hard work, that he didn’t have anything special about him.
Soo Mi knew that it wasn’t only hard work, not that he wasn’t hard working, it was more like that. He was special, truly special and he was the only one who couldn’t see it.
“No. I’m decent and you are awful so in comparison with you I’m good!”
She frowned at his comment and he laughed mocking her expression.
“It’s really not fair because...” She tried to skate faster to catch up with him “You used to do water ski too so your equilibrium is better than mine!”
“Just admit you are really bad!” He screamed happily skating away from her and she stood watching him moving her arms because she lost her balance for a while.
Soo Mi managed to steady herself and observed Kibum while he skated.
He was like an excited kid the whole day and for an outsider point of view he looked more like a tourist than her, even though he spoke English perfectly and dressed up extremely well.
She giggled when he blinked an eye at her and skated to the other side of the rink and back.
Her smile slowly faded when her eyes started to move down from his sparkling excited eyes down to his lips that were red because of the cold.
The previous night she kissed those lips, his hands were on her waist and his legs in the middle of hers.
Kibum drifted in her direction and stopped in front of her grabbing her arms to steady himself.
“Kim Kibum! From South Korea, the male Kim Yuna!” He announced cutely with his boyish smile and Soo Mi smiled softly admiring his face.
He was and wasn’t the same boy from before, the one she grew up with. He was a man now and weirdly it took a while for her to see it.
She lied too.
Well it wasn’t as if she truly lied it was more like he made a wrong assumption.
When she was observing the rink she wasn’t thinking about Ilsung, not at all. She didn’t think about him the whole day because she was too busy thinking, speaking, laughing with Kibum. He was the only person in her eyes, heart and mind at the moment.
When she saw the couples ice skating together she thought about inviting Kibum to do it so she could selfishly do skinship with him, touch his hands like they did inside the London eye, even though they were wearing gloves now.
Soo Mi wanted Kibum to hold her hands, to grab her by her waist and have eyes only on her like the couples she was watching.
Was she weird?
He was her best friend not a boyfriend and yet she was having impure selfish thoughts about him.
Or maybe, she just missed him dearly, her best friend.
Oblivious to her thoughts Kibum released her arms and slide on the ice in the direction of the railing around it.
“Ah…wait for me!” Soo Mi asked trying to follow after him and he slowed down so she could reach him. “Tomorrow you have classes right?”
“Yes. I’m sorry. I’ll be busy the whole day. Are you sure you can survive alone in London for one day?”
Soo Mi chuckled placing her hands in the pockets of her red coat “I’ll be fine! I’ll be a full tourist!”
She was going to look at him when she lost her balance and instead of slowing down she went against Kibum. He opened his arms to soften her fall and she crashed against his chest making him lose his balance too, both going against the railing.
Kibum wrapped his arms around her keeping her safe and Soo Mi buried her face in his chest embarrassed.
She felt as if she was the main character of a drama and Kibum wasn’t making things easier laughing like an idiot making fun of her. She raised her eyes to him and he laughed even more covering his eyes as if he was crying.
“What’s so funny?” She complained hitting his chest with her fist. He wasn’t even releasing her, still holding her against him with one hand, the close contact being too much for her.
It was weird how hugging him before seemed so innocent and now she couldn’t help but think about how he hugged her tightly after they had , both .
However he didn’t seem to be affected by their proximity and probably for Kibum the previous night changed nothing really.
“Your cheeks are so red and you should have seen your face!” He cleaned his teary eyes from laughing mimicking her scared panic expression “You looked like an idiot!”
“YA!” Soo Mi tried to pull away from him but he held her.
“Stop it you idiot! You will fall again!”
She managed to release herself and Kibum held her by her waist until she grabbed the railing.
He was still laughing once in awhile and she groaned upset avoiding looking at him since her cheeks were red.
“Are you that embarrassed?” He poked her arm “Stop being silly! Everyone makes a fool out of themselves at a skating rink…well everyone but a pro like me!” He mocked her but she still didn’t look his way.
He was the true idiot that couldn’t understand the real reason behind the way she was blushing like that.
Kim Kibum
Kibum was in his bunk bed and above him, in the bed that belonged to Ilsung, Soo Mi was sleeping.
Once they arrived to his room he tried to act natural and offered to let her shower first so she could change into her pajamas and get into bed.
They got ready for bed faster and didn’t talk much probably afraid to remember the previous night.
Kibum turned in his bed and closed his eyes. Above him Soo Mi was probably already asleep, tired due to the full day they had. He ran his fingers on the bed sheets thinking. Even though he changed the sheets the bed was still the same where he slept with her the previous night. It was so warm to have her in his arms and now the sheets were cold. Ever since she was a little girl she was so warm. He remembered how he would place his feet next to hers during winter when they slept together. It all stopped happening once they grew up and his grandmother decided that it wasn’t proper anymore to let them sleep together.
“Are you sleeping?” Soo Mi whispered from the bed above and Kibum smiled with his eyes closed.
“I was…”
It was a lie but he loved to .
“Sorry…”
“What’s wrong? Are you restless?”
“I made such a long trip to see you and Ilsung for only a few days and it's ending soon.”
He sighed turning in the bed with his tummy up. “You can stay here.” It wasn’t entirely true because the landlord wouldn’t like it, a man and a woman sharing the room for long “I have a free bed now.”
“You mean it?”
He yawned “Well if you came to study here and managed to enter college then yes I mean it. You could stay here for a while until you found a place for yourself.”
She didn’t say anything and he stared at the bed over his wondering what she was thinking.
“What do you want to do?” He asked raising his hand to touch the bed above.
“I have no idea!”
Her answer made him laugh and he covered his arm with the sheet.
“But I’m certain of something…”
“Oh really, what’s that?” He the bed again facing the wall this time.
“I want to spend more time with you.”
Her answer made him smile and Kibum closed his eyes again.
Nae Soo Mi
Soo Mi waved at Kibum fervently for a while until she noticed that he wasn’t alone.
She spent the whole morning and part of the afternoon walking around London until she was completely freezing. Then she spent a few hours inside a coffee shop warming up and then as it was settled she visited Kibum’s college and was waiting for him outside.
He wasn't alone though and was now walking to her followed by two of his classmates, a woman that seemed Japanese and someone foreigner, maybe english with red hair and green eyes.
Soo Mi stared for a long time at him, probably more than she should with open. She never saw someone with hair as red as him.
“This is Soo Mi!” Kibum said in english introducing her to his classmates. Soo Mi managed to understand some bits of it and did her best to smile.”
“This is Eddie and Airi.” Kibum explained in korean to Soo Mi “One of them is English and the other is Japanese.”
She was right then.
“Are they your friends?”
Kibum nodded exchanging a few words in English with them while Soo Mi watched them curiously.
“Did you have fun?” Eddie asked with broken Korean and Soo Mi widened her eyes “I’m learning a little bit.”
“He likes kpop a lot….” Kibum explained chuckling
“And Korean food!” Eddie added.
“He thinks he will go to Korea and marry a kpop girl group member!” Kibum shook his head laughing like a cat.
Then he turned to Airi and spoke to her in Japanese confusing Soo Mi even more. She knew nothing of Japanese but whatever Kibum was telling her made Airi cover laughing cutely. She was shorter than Kibum, more or less Soo Mi’s height but she was more feminine than her and her black hair was short making her look cute.
Kibum placed a hand on Airi’s shoulder squishing it affectional and the gesture wasn’t missed by Soo Mi. They weren’t only friends, Kibum was never like that with friends, well he was with her but she was different, right?!
Soo Mi felt her heart sink deep down and she no longer felt like staying there or meeting those people. She wanted to be alone with Kibum. Maybe she was selfish but the next day was the day she would leave and she wasn’t sure she was prepared to face Korea alone again.
“Did you visit the Big Ben?” Eddie asked in english.
“I took her there yesterday!” Kibum explained saying a few more things in English and Soo Mi felt like an idiot since she couldn’t even share anything, even Airi was speaking with them quickly, too quickly for her to catch anything.
The three of them laughed and Soo Mi bit her lower lip and sent Kibum a look of desperation and betrayal. Were they making fun of her or something?!
Kibum’s smile died immediately and he raised an eyebrow reading her expression.
“Can we go have dinner?” She asked abruptly “I’m hungry.” She wasn’t going to invite the others but Soo Mi felt bad “Maybe we can all go.”
“I like!” Eddie answered in broken Korean mixing english and korean words “Eat dinner together, right?” he mimicked eating and Soo Mi smiled a little. “You cute!”
He turned to Kibum nuzzling his shoulder “You never said she was this pretty!”
The last sentence was said in English but Soo Mi could understood it and she moved her eyes to Kibum waiting for his answer. He didn’t say anything, his eyes on her as if he was thinking about something.
“Let’s eat. I’m hungry too!” He pushed Soo Mi playfully and maybe a little roughly and she stared at him upset.
“You got yourself an admirer!” He whispered to her quickly before he walked faster leaving her behind with Eddie that was trying to say a full sentence in Korean and failing.
Soo Mi helped him mixing her awful English with Korean to see if they could understand each other, but her eyes never left Kibum and Airi that were walking in front of them speaking like old friends in Japanese.
Kim Kibum
She didn’t want to leave and he didn’t want her to leave either but he was the older one and therefore he needed to be the responsible one. Kibum pulled her bag and she followed after him as a prisoner on the death row.
“You didn’t have to come to the airport with me.” Soo Mi said releasing a deep sigh.
“I was scared you would run away with a hot English guy and your grandfather and parents would kill me!”
She smiled a little with his comment and both stopped in front of the gate she had to cross.
Since she wasn’t facing him Kibum played with the handle of her trolley bag.
He hated goodbyes.
It sounded like something definitive and he hated it, besides the last time he said goodbye to her at Incheon before he left to London she cried so much with his grandmother that he teared up a little after he crossed the gate, hiding it from them.
She bit her lower lip and rubbed her nose and he knew it. She was going to cry sooner or later and he hated to see her cry, he would cry with her.
Kibum raised his eyes to the ceiling of the airport giving time for her to try and control her feelings.
It rarely worked though, she used to cry over the silliest things like tv shows, the cute new dog of the neighbor or the fact that her new dress got ripped and as he knew to detect it Kibum also knew how to react to it.
He moved his eyes back to her and she raised hers to him with tears forming on them.
Damn.
Kibum did what he always did in times like that; he hugged her softly, caressing her back without saying anything. Soo Mi hugged him back and buried her face in his collarbone, her hands on his back.
He was going to tell her that he would be back to Korea soon when she spoke, her words muffled by his chest.
“You are special to me.”
Kibum nuzzled his nose in her hair and closed his eyes inhaling the scent of her shampoo that he loved.
“You are special to me too.”
“Promise me that you call more often and kakao with me everyday!”
Kibum patted her head as if she was a little girl “I’ll try hard. I’ll text you every night before going to bed!”
“Promise!” she insisted hitting his back upset and he groaned.
“I promise!”
She was acting like a nagging girlfriend and the thought that amused him at first made him feel weird after.
Soo Mi stepped away from his embrace and grabbed the handle of her bag.
They gazed at each other and for a brief moment her wet eyes and her blushed cheeks made him think of the night they shared together. She looked exactly like that after they had , smiling because she just had an , so beautiful and fragile and his, only his…
He looked away and she sniffed loudly before searching for a paper tissue inside her bag.
He was thankful for that moment of her blowing her nose and cleaning her tears because he was having weird thoughts again.
“Please come to visit us soon, me and your grandmother. We miss you.”
“I will.” He missed Korea too and his grandmother very much.
“In the meanwhile I’ll study hard and try to come to study here!”
“You are serious about it? For real?”
The idea made him very happy.
“Yes I am. I truly want to do something with my life…whatever it is and I want to see you often. I’ll miss you so much!”
“I'll miss you too!” he ruffled her hair again. He missed her already and she was in front of him. “You must go or you will miss your flight!”
Soo Mi gave a step forward and tiptoed to kiss him making Kibum widen his eyes because she wasn’t aiming to kiss him on the cheek like she did on the day he left Korea. Instead her lips touched the corner of his lips and planted a kiss there.
She stepped back again blinking her wet eyes and looking at him as if she was surprised as he was.
It wasn’t a full kiss on his lips like the ones they shared that night but was the closest to it they shared.
“Bye.” She said awkwardly pulling the bag closer to her, but before she could leave Kibum grabbed her hand and didn’t release her. Instead he pulled her closer to him again and for a brief moment he almost kissed her lips but the promise they made was very fresh on his mind and he intended to keep it.
His friendship with her was above any other nonsense, above ual desire or attraction between a man and a woman.
Her lips were tempting, he couldn’t deny it, he was a man after all. However he didn’t kiss her lips, instead he kissed her cheek sweetly and caressed it after.
“Have a safe trip back.”
She nodded smiling brightly at him, so beautifully that he wished to remember it forever and then walked away.
Kibum watched her for a while and she turned to wave at him one last time before she disappeared.
Kibum took a deep breath and then ran a hand through his hair messing it up which he hated. He was normally the kind of person that followed the rules and rarely strayed, working hard to achieve what he wanted but always doing it in a way that he wouldn’t break the rules as long as they were fair.
He was always a good boy, however when Soo Mi came into the picture trouble always found a way to reach them.
Soo Mi was a blessing and yet the cause of many trouble in his life.
Like when he slept with his best friend, like how he almost just kissed her goodbye on her lips.
Kibum touched the corner of his lips on the place she kissed him.
She made him get in trouble but he always loved to be in trouble with her.
Here it is! ^^
