No Longer Tangled and Messy
Red StringOf course, I wouldn't always wake up to a straight string.
As I grew older, the tangled knots visited more often. And of course, more often than not, I'd contribute to the game. Unfortunately, many times I'd lose, succumbing into the depths of nightmares and dreams before witnessing the unwinding. And many times I'd open my eyes to find the string still tangled. Still choking.
This morning was no different. I gazed upon the suffocating string, my face indifferent. Within a single moment, the world around me turned dark. I don't know what came over me, but I grabbed my pair of scissors, and cut it. Nothing happened, of course. At least, not to the string. As for me, I snapped. I dropped the scissors, pulled at my hair, screamed into my pillow. Tears began to flow, and my eyesight became blurry. I was panting for oxygen, clutching my chest, refusing to wipe my tears. And not a moment later came my parents with news.
"Your father and I have decided to get a divorce."
And just like that, the string broke. It snipped, right where I cut it.
Today, the string did not remain tangled and messy, nor did it unwind to become nice and straight.
No, today I'm afraid to say, the string had given up.
The string had cut.
