One Step Closer

Present Day
No matter how old Aspen got, or where she went, or how her appearance changed, being found attractive by someone would always be a foreign concept to her.
Her style and identity were developing in San Francisco, as she took the time that she had alone to figure out what she did and didn’t like on her. It didn’t take very long; the city suited her so well that it was very easy to get the things that she liked, and the layer clothes the way that she was most comfortable in; she was finally beginning to like what she saw when she looked in the mirror. The only problem (if one could consider it to be a problem at all) was that, in her process of self-discovery, she had gone from a misfit to a grown, married woman, in regards to appearances; along with layering her tastes had come to incorporate This kept a lot of attention off of her as well, and again she just accepted invisibility as a part of her life.
So when a man came into her store that day and eventually asked for her phone number, it was an understatement to say that she was surprised. He was older than her, probably years closer to graduating college than she was, and was surprisingly good looking, considering who he had chosen to approach. Aspen was completely flattered, and so it surprised him and her coworkers when she turned him down.
