Chapter 14 - Dawn of Dread
Cold Beautiful ThingsHyeran lay motionless on her bed. Her head was turned toward the window, and she was gazing outside but what she was looking at wasn’t registering in her brain. Her head was already too busy trying to keep out thoughts of handsome men with cold stares and pillowy lips. Hyeran hadn’t heard anything of Taekwoon for weeks, but she had to ask herself why that seemed abnormal to her. Taekwoon was just a client, and he didn’t have any ongoing cases with her, so obviously she wouldn’t hear from him. She had even asked the man not overstep the bounds of a professional relationship. It was awkward. Of course he would stay away from her.
A groan escaped Hyeran’s lips- audible evidence of her frustration with herself. She may have found herself physically attracted to her client, but it had never been anything beyond that. Besides, the man she liked was Hongbin. They spent so much time together, and he was incredibly sweet. It was definitely Hongbin that she liked.
Angry with herself, Hyeran sat up and told herself to snap out of her strange mood. She finally took in the view outside her window and smiled. The heavily overcast sky looked white and the trees were bare, but it didn’t look dismal at all to Hyeran. Soon it will snow, she thought gladly. She was about to shuffle into some warmer clothes and take a walk outside when her phone rang unexpectedly. Her chest felt heavier with the assumption that she was being called into work, fluttered when the caller ID showed Hongbin’s name.
It wasn’t Hongbin on the other end. It was his mother, whom she had met once or twice. The pleasantries were short and insincere. Hyeran frowned.
“Hongbin is in the hospital, it was a hit and run,” was the sentence that made her stomach drop.
