Chapter 2 - He Was a Tempest Hushed
Cold Beautiful ThingsHyeran’s first meeting with her client was not what the lawyer would call successful. At first she was struck by the unearthly beauty of the man trapped in the glacial atmosphere of this isolated room. Then she was struck by the aura of danger around him. She gingerly sat herself across from him, greeted him as his lawyer and promised victory in court. When the accused man finally rose his gaze to meet hers the woman’s body froze. The potential killer had sharp eyes that looked deep into her with a hint of a glower, and Hyeran badly wanted to avert her gaze but she could not appear feeble for the sake of her case and her dignity. Jung Taekwoon remained silent, internally assessing the lawyer that was given to him.
“Are you good?” was the first thing that he forced out of his lips.
“I’m amazing.” Hyeran had learnt to present an image of confidence and not bother appearing humble, not that her haughty statement was untruthful. She had expected Taekwoon to continue, but the only thing he kept going was his reticence.
“In strict confidence Taekwoon-ssi, did you kill Dongbyun-ssi?”
“No.” Hyeran would not have expected any other answer, so she simply forced a small smile and asked if there were anything that he had to tell her that would assist her case. The taciturn man shook his head.
“I’ll pay a visit to Gayoon-ssi to question her about her statement against you and have her assessed by a psychologist, but your relationship with her husband being what it was and your refusal to give an alibi will stretch this out longer than it needs to
