Chapter 14 (Final)

Dilemmas In Our Destiny

Okay so first off I would like to say I am a Hindu so I have no clue how church weddings work so I did my research but if there are any inaccuracies I did not mean to offend anyone. On a second note, I am a high school student so I have not been proposed to our seen any proposals. Therefore if I wrote anything wrong in that scene I apologize and I do not mean to offend anyone. So I decided to write all the epilogues together and even though this is a monster chapter of 5925 words this fic is finally over. Thank you to all the people who have read this story and a special thanks to those who voted, commented, and/or subscribed. Please do vote on the poll that will be up about which fic I should start next.

Howon let out a slight sigh. Tonight was the big night, the ring was picked out, the venue set, the only thing left was to ask. He stared at himself in the mirror, making sure his appearance was immaculate. Woohyun was somewhere distracting Dongwoo per Howon’s request and Myungsoo was at the venue with Sungyeol to make sure that all the final details were in place.
“Hurry up, you don’t want to be late to your own proposal now do you?” Sunggyu teased from outside the door, which was what got Howon to finally leave his mirror. When he stepped out he was met with a with the sight of Sunggyu’s jaw hitting the ground. “Since when has your taste in clothes been this good?”
“It never has, Dongwoo bought this for me as a gift,” Howon admitted, his fingers twitching to play with the hem of his shirt.
“Breathe, Howon, no matter how nervous you are not breathing won’t help you,” Howon only seemed to notice then that his lungs were lacking a major amount of oxygen and began to gasp it in. “You are an idiot,” Sunggyu commented after the younger had caught his breath.
“Yeah like you felt no nerves when you were proposing to Woohyun.” Howon sarcastically bit out, “It is totally normal for a person to pass out from relief when their boyfriend says yes.”
“Yah, Lee Howon, why am I even helping you?” Sunggyu’s voice was flustered and Howon couldn’t help but chuckle at the pink that dusted the older’s cheeks. Before Howon could reply, though, his phone rang.
“Can you put it on speaker Sunggyu,” Howon requested as he double checked the agenda that he and the people helping him had put together.
“Everything’s set over here Howon,” Myungsoo spoke on the other side of the line. “The only thing left is music playlist and I need to go finalize that right now, mind if I put Sungyeol on the line?” In the month that had passed since Sungyeol had been found, all six men became extremely close with one another. After all, with the past, they had once shared it was only natural.
“That’s great news, and, of course, I would want to talk to Sungyeol. What kind of a question is that?” Myungsoo could hear Howon’s indignation in his tone and handed the phone over to Sungyeol.
“Gyu?” Sungyeol sounded excited and both of the men on the other end could practically see him beaming that overstretched gummy smile of his.
“Hey Sungyeol, make sure you stay in the club. Just because Myungsoo is away now that doesn’t mean you can wander off,” Sunggyu reminded, his voice stern as to make sure Sungyeol knew that this was more a command than a request.
“Sungyeol stay Gyu,” Sungyeol promised, and Howon chuckled as the vision of the boy nodding fervently on the other end filled his mind for a moment. “Howon!” Sungyeol squealed out the name in a voice that had Howon wincing slightly.
“I hope you haven’t been getting in the way of anyone Sungyeol,” Howon stated, and it was enough to prompt Sungyeol to start reassuring Howon that he had helped.
“Sungyeol help, promise. Sungyeol got flowers and ring ready, Sungyeol help Howon,” Howon chuckled at the pout he could practically hear dripping from Sungyeol’s words.
“Thank you for helping then Sungyeol, I can’t wait to see how pretty you made it look,” Howon was answered by a slight shuffling on the other end.
“Sorry to cut off your conversation with Yeol, but I just finalized things the music order and Dongwoo and Woohyun just arrived. All the other guests were let in a few minutes ago and the place is packed. Dongwoo and Woohyun look really hot, though, it looks like they put a lot of effort into what they were going to wear tonight. Oh and Kibum got here a while ago with Jonghyun so really you two are all we are waiting on,” Myungsoo informed.
“Right, thanks so much for your help Myungsoo, make sure you thank Sungyeol for me too,” Howon said and motioned for Sunggyu to cut the phone as he shut down his laptop.
Though before Sunggyu could turn off the phone Myungsoo replied, “You all are really like the family and support system Sungyeol and I never had, I wouldn’t be doing anything else right now even if you had given me a choice.” After the call, Howon and Sunggyu sat in the car. Sunggyu being the amazing person he was distracted Howon with small talk and the occasional encouraging statement on the ride there and before Howon had readied himself fully they had pulled over in front of a club which was the venue he had selected.
“Why are we here already? I need more time, Sunggyu please give me more time, please,” Howon was having a full blown panic attack and Sunggyu had reached the edge of his tolerance.
“Okay, that is it. Lee Howon, your hesitance was cute at first but now it is just annoying. I don’t have the patience for this. You will either walk into that club yourself or god help me I will carry you in there and throw you on Dongwoo’s lap,” Sunggyu grumbled out, and there was enough seriousity in the voice for Howon to know that Sunggyu was not kidding. He silently got up and out of the car and walked into the club, Sunggyu following behind. All Howon’s nerves were forgotten when he walked in to see Dongwoo’s body moving in perfect rhythm to the music. Myungsoo was not over exaggerating when he said Dongwoo looked nice. Goddamnit, his boyfriend looked so hot. His clothes a slight bit on the formal side with well-fitting black pants, a body-hugging white dress shirt, and a black vest. Not to mention the black tie that may or may not be creating several fantasies in his mind right now. Maybe like how it would look against the sunkissed skin of Dongwoo’s shirtless chest. When the song ended Dongwoo stepped off the dance floor and much to his surprise found his eyes locked with Howon’s. Sunggyu noticing Dongwoo walking over leaned over to whisper one last teasing statement before he made his escape to the DJ’s platform, “My wedding to Woohyun is in three days and I don’t want to see either of you limping.”
“Hey Howon, I am so glad we finally can spend some time together,” Dongwoo shot him a smile that was probably just as wide as Sungyeol’s normally is and Howon couldn’t help but join their lips together after that. Momentarily forgetting to be flustered over Sunggyu’s comment. After they separated Dongwoo couldn’t help but let out a teasing, “Miss me?”
“Lots,” Howon answered extracting his hands from Dongwoo’s dark brown locks. “You leave for a while to Yongin and when you finally get back you get assigned a story in Busan the day after you move in with me, how is that any fair.”
“Sorry, you know I love spending time with you, work just isn’t flexible, though,” Dongwoo answered, interlocking their fingers while taking slight sideways glances at Howon. The younger had dressed in the suit that Dongwoo had got him. Dongwoo was amazed himself at how well it fit, the waist was slightly tighter than the rest of the well fitting suit and the material was linen which made it look a slight bit more casual. “It looks nice on you, but when we get home I can’t wait to take it off.”
Howon rolled his eyes at that, “You see me after a month and the first thing you want to do is have ?”
“No, I want to make love to you since I haven’t in a whole month,” Dongwoo answered, receiving another sarcastic gesture from Howon at that. Just as Howon was about to say something, his phone vibrated in his pocket due to a text message and he knew without checking that it was his cue. Woohyun, Key, and Sunggyu were all up with mics on the DJ’s platform and the dance floor had been cleared for him.
“What’s going on?” Dongwoo had noticed the change too but was only answered by Howon dragging him to the edge of the dance floor before leaving him and walking to the center of it. One glance to the side and Howon saw Sungyeol and Myungsoo with a platter full of hoya with the ring in the center of the flowers. Before his nerves really had a chance to kick in, the song he had chosen began to play and the dance moves he had practiced for the past month came on their own accord. He locked eyes with Dongwoo on the edge of the dance floor as he let the music wash away his thoughts. Before he knew it, the song he had spent hours trying to finalize, ‘Last Romeo’ came to an end. Myungsoo who had somehow relocated to Dongwoo’s side somewhere during his performance led Dongwoo to the center of the stage, and Sungyeol stepped out from the crowd with the ring gleaming in its forest of flowers. Howon had dropped onto a knee, and Sungyeol placed the platter in Howon’s hand.
“Jang Dongwoo,” Howon couldn’t help but falter a little at the sight of tears b in Dongwoo’s eyes, “will you marry me?” Much to his surprise, the tears ended up flooding out after that statement and Dongwoo let out laughter choked with sobs and hiccups.
“You are such an idiot if you were going to propose you should have said something sooner,” the older managed to gasp out in between his laughter. When he saw the look of confusion on Howon’s face he pulled out a velvet case from a concealed pocket in his pants and revealed a beautiful ring. “I made a classy dinner and bought roses so that I could propose to you when we got home.” At that, a wide grin plastered itself on Howon’s face as everyone in the club began laughing. So maybe that was a planning flaw on Howon’s part, but he had never considered that Dongwoo would be thinking about marrying him just as he had and that thought made him insanely happy. Even though Howon’s proposal hadn’t been as flawless as he had hoped, he couldn’t help but feel as if it was more perfect than what he had in mind could've been as Dongwoo slipped the ring onto his finger after he slipped the one he had bought onto Dongwoo’s. After that they were surrounded by friends and Howon made sure to thank Sunggyu, Woohyun, and Kibum for the singing and rapping. As well as thank Myungsoo, Sungyeol, and the club owner for making the night a possibility. After that Howon excused himself and Dongwoo so that they could go home and enjoy the dinner Dongwoo had made and maybe make a few of Howon’s fantasies come true.
~
Sunggyu fidgeted nervously in front of the mirror. Howon looking him up and down and making final adjustments to his suit. Today was the day he and Woohyun would spend side by side and to say he was nervous was an understatement. Woohyun’s brother just called and the “kidnapping” of Woohyun, Sungyeol, and Dongwoo had gone fine. Dongwoo had been told about the plan for the surprise marriage beforehand and so he was also given the responsibility of making Woohyun look breathtaking. If only Sunggyu knew just how good of a job Dongwoo had done, maybe then the disaster that would occur could have been avoided.
“Sunggyu calm down, you look more nervous than I did when I was about to propose to Dongwoo three days ago,” Howon said with a smirk.
“What if he doesn’t want to marry me?” Sunggyu asked, fear lacing his voice.
“You have got to be kidding me, Dongwoo and Woohyun gossiped for a whole day on his dream wedding plans to you, that is how we even got an idea of what kind of a wedding he would enjoy. Don’t tell me you forgot that whole conversation that Dongwoo recorded for us,” when Howon got a sheepish look in reply he couldn’t help but scoff. “Hearing Woohyun’s vows will be interesting, though, he had no time to prepare anything.” That’s when Sunggyu’s thoughts started wandering, and Howon cut him some slack for spacing out since it was his wedding day.
Dongwoo, on the other hand, had just made sure that Woohyun outfit looked perfect, and honestly, the other looked so scared. Well no sherlock you should look more scared to, you guys are supposed to have been kidnapped, he mentally chided himself. Thankfully Woohyun was spending most of his time with Sungyeol so he hadn’t noticed Dongwoo’s lack of acting. Finally, Dongwoo noted them pulling up in front of the wedding venue. He had to really give it up to Sunggyu though, this was a really unique twist on a surprise wedding. Of course, it had been a long process to make sure that Woohyun was really ready for a wedding but upon discovering that Woohyun had it all planned out and was just waiting for Sunggyu to bring it up, he couldn’t help but find the idea clever. They exited the van and their “kidnapper” took off his mask.
“Wait, Boohyun? Why the hell did my big brother kidnap me?” Woohyun looked confused as hell, and Dongwoo decided to leave the siblings alone and make sure that Sungyeol didn’t go anywhere.
“Oh trust me, it’s all in preparation for a pleasant surprise. You look nice, Dongwoo knows your tasted well. How about me? Do I look okay in this suit?” Boohyun tried to keep the conversation normal despite the death glare he was receiving from his younger brother.
“You look fine, now can you please tell me why we are here?” Woohyun was only answered by the door of the church they were at being opened, at the end of the aisle Sunggyu standing next to a priest. Maybe Woohyun should have paid more attention since it was his wedding day and all that jazz, but everything after that point was really just a haze of faceless family members, the occasional bright flower, and Sunggyu. Sunggyu standing there in that suit that was made for him, Sunggyu’s small eyes widening with joy after someone led him there. Was that person his father? Sunggyu’s small smile and perfectly groomed hair.
Sunggyu himself was just as bad as Woohyun. He knew he should probably be listening to what the priest was saying, but Woohyun just looked so goddamn wow. His brain clearly wasn’t working right. When he did refocus, it was when the priest repeated for him to state his vows, causing the audience to let out a slight chuckle.
“I promise to love you now and as you grow and develop into all that God intends. I will love you when we are together and when we are apart; when our lives are at peace and when they are in turmoil; when I am proud of you and when I am disappointed in you; in times of rest and in times of work. I will honor your goals and dreams and help you to fulfill them. From the depth of my being, I will seek to be open and honest with you. I say these things believing that God is in the midst of them all,” Sunggyu thought that things would get better after that but his nerves just seemed to increase by twofold after his vow.
Woohyun was pretty nervous himself, he had prepared nothing and decided that he might as well say everything, “I choose you to be my husband, my partner in life. I promise you my unconditional love, my fullest devotion, my most tender care through the pressures of the present and the uncertainties of the future. I promise to love you, honor, respect and cherish you all the days of our lives. You are everything I need, and at this moment, I feel that all of my prayers have been answered. I know that our love is heaven sent and I promise to be here forever and always. I pledge to respect your unique talents and abilities, to lend you strength to reach your dreams. I promise to take care of you, to encourage and inspire you, asking that you be no other than yourself. From this day forward you shall not walk alone, my heart will be your shelter and my arms will be your home.” Woohyun’s eyes never left Sunggyu’s. For Sunggyu the vow was really the only part that he paid attention to, the rest of the ceremony was him trying to contain the light headedness he was feeling. He didn’t even register the priest’s command to kiss Woohyun, and Woohyun was the one who joined their lips together. The world shouldn’t be spinning right, he thought to himself as he clutched onto Woohyun in an attempt to keep himself standing.
“It is now my privilege to introduce to you for the first time, both Mr. Kim’s,” and disaster struck. Sunggyu couldn’t really believe that the handsome man next to him was finally his and the world out.
Woohyun being a doctor kept his calm externally, “Does anyone have water?”
“Yeah I do, I thought something like this might happen,” Howon grabbed the bottle he had by his side during the ceremony and handed it to Woohyun who splashed it on his husband’s face. When Sunggyu finally regained conscious Woohyun kissed him again before helping him up.
“I can’t believe you passed out on your wedding day. Wasn’t it enough that it happened on the day of your proposal to me?” Woohyun teased, and Sunggyu smiled in reply. So him passing out might have been a disaster but at least, Woohyun was happy, and that was all that mattered.
~
Myungsoo woke up slightly annoyed, only for it to turn into concern. He hated being disturbed in his sleep but ever since he had achieved control over his anger issues Sungyeol had been having nightmares. Woohyun was really a magnificent psychiatrist and ever since he had found out the root cause of Myungsoo’s outbursts, he managed to help Myungsoo gain control of them. However, what they hadn’t expected was for Sungyeol to struggle with withdrawal symptoms from lack of being beat.
“Please, Sungyeol be good promise,” Sungyeol let out the plea in his sleep, and Myungsoo knew better than to wake him. He gently Sungyeol’s hair, pressing gently kissed to the older’s eyes, forehead, cheeks, and mouth in a hope to calm him down. The whimpers and other please leaving Sungyeol scaring him. Soon the older calmed down, though, and Myungsoo pulled the boy into a warm embrace and held him there until the first rays of the sun danced across the wooden floor of their bedroom.
“Yeol, wake up,” Myungsoo cooed the words into Sungyeol’s ears and the older sleepily opened his eyes.
“Soo?” Sungyeol asked only to be answered with a gentle morning kiss pressed against his lips.
“Good morning, how are you feeling?” Myungsoo asked and he only received a blinding smile.
“Sungyeol fine because Soo here,” the older murmured, burying his head deeper into Myungsoo’s chest.
“Sungyeol I would love to spend all day cuddling with you but we invited Chanhee and Byunghun over don’t you remember?” Myungsoo chuckled as Sungyeol’s eyes widened with realization and Sungyeol dragged them into the bathroom. Just as they were adjusting each others outfits, the doorbell rang and Sungyeol practically bounced over to the door.
“My baby has grown up into such a handsome man,” Chanhee exclaimed, pulling Sungyeol into his embrace as Myungsoo entered the room.
“He definitely has grown up to be pretty, one could say he takes after you,” Byunghun teased and Chanhee’s blush wasn’t too hard to see. Upon noticing Myungsoo, Byunghun smiled. “Sungyeol, why don’t you show Chanhee around honey and I’ll catch up with your boyfriend later,” with that Sungyeol and Chanhee were off and Myungsoo was left with Byunghun. He figured they would talk after Sungyeol left but the silence that ensued just made him more nervous as he began fidgeting. “Are you taking advantage of him?” That was the question that broke the silence.
“What do you mean?” Myungsoo asked he sounded defensive even to himself, but he couldn’t help it.
“Sungyeol’s feelings for you are genuine, as his caretaker I know that much, but I don’t know if it’s the same for you. The last person Sungyeol loved threw him away too and he loves you much more than that person. If you were to throw him away I don’t think he’d ever smile again,” Byunghun answered, and Myungsoo felt a slight irritation at the thought of someone else being as close to Sungyeol as he was.
“I can assure you, sir, I need Sungyeol more than he would ever need me. I could never through him away,” Myungsoo reassured.
“Just Byunghun is fine, I am not old enough to be called sir. So why did you call me and Chanhee here?” Byunghun asked. “We assumed we would never have a chance to see our Sungyeol again, so why now?”
“Well, I wanted you to see Sungyeol when he wasn’t in such a state, he has nightmares every night. I tried everything but honestly, neither our psychiatrist nor I can figure out why. I was hoping you could tell me something about his past that could help us. It hurts to hear Sungyeol whimpering and begging to be good in his sleep,” Myungsoo murmured.
“So you need to know about Sungyeol’s past, why haven’t you asked him yourself?” Byunghun said an eyebrow raised in speculation.
“I’ve tried but he refuses to open up,” Myungsoo answered, too guilty to make eye contact.
“Don’t feel bad, it just mean Sungyeol doesn’t want to worry you that’s all. I know that probably doesn’t help you feel any better but it’s all I can say. About Sungyeol’s past, well to start off his mother was in her late teens when she was pregnant with Sungyeol. Around the four month mark, she was kidnapped. Apparently the people who kidnapped her gave her food and water with lots of lead infused which is what affected Sungyeol’s brain growth. His mother was found two weeks before Sungyeol’s birth and his father who was a twenty-one year old supported her until the day of Sungyeol’s birth. She died during delivery. After that, Sungyeol’s father raised him until he decided to get married a second time to give Sungyeol a mom. They had a second child together and that child was named Daeyeol. Sungyeol’s stepmom always felt as if his father loved him more than her. Plus, Daeyeol started getting bullied for having a retarded brother so his stepmom blamed Sungyeol for it all. She ended up beating Sungyeol up. When his father found out he tried to stop her, but the crazy women killed his father and then killed herself in front of both of them. The only reason his younger brother has no trauma is because he was sleeping in a different room and Sungyeol locked the door to make sure Daeyeol wouldn’t walk in. That’s really all his file said about his past,” Byunghun said, letting a small smile flit across his features at the pain that he saw in Myungsoo’s eyes and the anger in Myungsoo’s clenched jaw.
“That’s what his past was like,” Myungsoo’s words came out quiet.
“Don’t blame yourself, that’s stupid. There is nothing you can change about his past no matter how much you want too. Why don’t we go join up with Chanhee and Sungyeol now anyways. I am sure they have had enough one on one bonding time,” Byunghun stated, following Myungsoo as he walked out.
“How did you guys meet Sungyeol?” Myungsoo asked after a few minutes of walking in silence.
“Well, to be honest, he walked in on us making out. We had both been disowned because we came out to our families and so we were scared he would tell the higher ups. The first thing he asks is if I was hurting Chanhee, then when we both assured him that neither of us were hurt he just walked out. He acted the same towards us after that and honestly he was the only one who accepted us like that so we took him in like he was our own child. He really helped Chanhee get over the trauma caused by the harsh things his family had said to him before kicking him out,” Byunghun answered.
“Wait so you mean he saw you and Chanhee making out, but I haven’t even gone further than single kisses and I haven’t even deepened the kisses much cause I didn’t want to scare him. If only I had known that sooner,” Myungsoo was cut off by Byunghun.
“I may be friendly but Sungyeol is still like my son so keep those thoughts in your head Kim Myungsoo,” Byunghun teased, smirking a little at the red that dusted the other’s cheeks. Myungsoo looked like he was about to retort but they were both interrupted by Chanhee and Sungyeol’s giggling.
“Your puppy seems to love you so much, you are really good at taking care of him,” Chanhee exclaimed, before finding Byunghun’s arms wrapped around his waist. “Oh Byung, it took you forever to catch up, what were you guys talking about?”
“Oh nothing important Chanhee, apparently our Sungyeol has been having nightmares, and his boyfriend was just seeing if we knew anything that might cause them,” Byunghun answered before joining Sungyeol in playing with L. Myungsoo letting out the breath he was holding thinking that they would just ignore him. He thought to soon, though because Chanhee turned towards him with a kind smile after that.
“You must be really busy with your acting career, how do you even find the time for Sungyeol?” Myungsoo wondered if it were a trick question, but couldn’t find any double meaning to it.
“Well he spends the weekdays home with L until I finish up working, and I really can’t ever think of any better way to spend my life than with Sungyeol,” Myungsoo answered.
“Don’t be so tense, if we thought you were any bad for our son we would have already waged a custody battle against your family. The fact that you still have Sungyeol is a stamp of our approval,” Chanhee informed and that calmed Myungsoo down.
“I’m sorry you had to know about him nightmaring,” Myungsoo murmured out.
“Oh, I would be pissed if you hadn’t told me. Byunghun and I consider ourselves Sungyeol’s parents, it is our duty to help him out if he has problems of any kind,” Chanhee replied, smiling as Byunghun and Sungyeol started a tickle fight.
“I don’t know what to do,” Myungsoo admitted. Chanhee only smiled at that.
“Maybe his mind is wandering because he has too much time on his hands and not much to worry about anymore. You should get him a job of some sort,” Chanhee supplied only to be met by a look of disbelief.
“No, never. Sending him out of the house on his own, what if he got kidnapped? What job could he do, no job is completely risk-free. What if he gets hurt? Plus he is obviously good looking, what if he gets ? How could you even suggest something like that?” Myungsoo’s list of risks was broken by a laughing Chanhee.
When Chanhee had finally calmed down he spoke, “It’s sweet that you care that much but you didn’t even let me finish. I was going to say that you could let him work with us in our orphanage in Yongin. It is about a forty-five minute drive so you can drop him off in the mornings and we’ll bring him back in the evenings. He will be in the orphanage the whole time and we will be there to supervise him. Byunghun and I have been meaning to hire help anyways, and the way he treats your puppy is proof that he will be amazing with children. Plus, your family stole him away from us, it would be a good way for Byunghun and I to spend time with him,” Chanhee suggested.
“I don’t know,” Myungsoo stated only to receive an overdone pout and a high pitched please from the older. How could Myungsoo resist those doe eyes that looked so much like Sungyeol’s? “Fine.” He found himself in Chanhee’s embrace which lasted a mere second before Sungyeol and Byunghun pulled them apart. Byunghun complaining about how it wasn’t fair for Chanhee to touch other people even though he was Byunghun’s. Of course that wasn’t what caused Myungsoo to blush ever so slightly.
No, it was when Sungyeol back hugged Myungsoo and stared pointedly at Chanhee while whining, “My Soo,” that caused Myungsoo’s complexion to redden ever so slightly. Of course, it’s not like anyone who noticed would point it out.
~
Sungjong found himself in front of the Kim’s mansion. They had invited him over for tea, but it was probably just to get him to stop trying to reveal their past. He was greeted by a butler when he rang the bell. “What business do you have here sir?”
“The Kim’s requested me to join them this afternoon,” Sungjong answered.
“Your name sir?” the butler asked.
“Lee Sungjong,” with that the butler let him in and led him through the mansion. The pathway in so complicated Sungjong knew that he couldn’t find his way back out on his own, that thought making him feel more trapped. Finally, the butler stopped and opened a door and inside was Myungsoo’s father.
“Come in, come in,” the man stated, gesturing for the other to enter and dismissing the butler with just his gaze. The man screamed power, but at this point even if the man was aiming a gun at his head, Sungjong would not have felt fear. Sungjong entered the room and sat down across from the man who ruined his life.
“Before you ask your questions I would like to apologize for not erasing your memory as well. However, Myungsoo never informed us of your existence in his life and so we never knew you would have any memory or access to his life,” the man’s tone was respectful but Sungjong could still hear the insult.
“Why did you erase their memory? I have only one question and that is it, any other words from you is honestly a waste of my time,” Sungjong’s own voice showcased perfect respect, but only a fool would not be able to notice the condescending nature of the comment.
Myungsoo’s father’s lips pressed into a thin line before he answered, “The world accepts homouality fine if the family is wealthy enough, but for Myungsoo to fall in love with a mentally retarded Sungyeol would be unacceptable on so many levels. We wanted our son to be happy and he wanted to be an actor, not to look after our company. We did the only thing that would make sense after that, we wiped his mind. After all, it was in middle school that we preached to him that he would be the one to pick up where I left off. We figured it would be best if we wiped his memory of our expectations for him and sent him away. That way he could fall in love and follow his dreams without the expectations that being the son of a CEO of a rich company would bring. Moonsoo was more than happy to take over the company in his older brother's stead, and he met Daeyeol through the company and fell in love.”
“I don’t need to know about your second son’s happy end. Why did you wipe the memory of my friends as well?” Sungjong asked he would not waste any emotion on the man in front of him.
“Well, I was afraid that they would blackmail me or threaten my business just like you have been doing, if I had known about you I would have wiped your memory as well,” the other replied.
“Well then, my business here is over, if you don’t mind I will take my leave,” with that Sungjong got up and left. A butler was waiting outside the door and led him out. He then waved down a cab and gave the driver his home address. Before calling the one person he knew could help him, the one person he had to say goodbye too.
“Dongjun, thank you so much for picking up,” he said into the phone.
“This is the first time you have called me in two months, there was no way I would not pick up,” Dongjun sounded so relieved.
“I know I’ve been horrible to you, I realized it in that fight we had when I had Sungyeol. Dongjun, I can’t love you in this world with the regrets I have but I can’t continue to be this horrible to you either. So, in thirty minutes come over to my place, and I promise you I will give you a choice to spend forever with me or leave me behind forever,” Sungjong cut the phone after that and let his thoughts consume him.
Dongjun had his eyes on the clock, and right when it hit the thirty minute mark he left the bench he was sitting at directly across from Sungjong’s house and knocked. When no one answered he turned the knob and found it open, yet he felt no dread because a part of him knew that this is what he would find. He walked into Sungjong’s bedroom to find him asleep on his bed. Yet Dongjun knew that no matter what he did, Sungjong would not wake from this slumber. The note on the bedside table, as well as the half-empty vial next to it, caught his attention. He opened the note and the promise it contained couldn’t help but bring a smile to his face. Taking the vial to the bed, he repositioned Sungjong and drank it’s remaining contents before spooning his Juliet. The note laying forgotten on the floor only containing a simple message, “This world wasn’t for you or me, so I decided to sleep. Won’t you join me in my slumber, Romeo? So that when we wake it is in a world where regrets can’t stop me from being yours.”
