7 years later…

Mark Tuan was finally released from the place that he hated the most –jail. He finally could breathe fresh air once again. Jiyoung did keep his promise. Since that day, he never got beaten anymore. He enjoyed the outside world once again as he slowly walked along the path.

“So, you really pick me up?” He asked a man that was leaning to his car with hands in his pocket. He took off his sun glasses as he replied, “I always keep my promise.”

“Good. Because if you don’t, you know how big your sin will be.” Mark chuckled as he went to the passenger seat.

“Seunghyun, you don’t hate my sister, do you?” He suddenly asked when Seunghyun began driving.

“Of course not. I can never do that anyways.” Seunghyun chuckled as he began reminiscing their little time when they were still together –Aerin and he. It was really the best time of his entire life. He remembered how she bewitched him. He remembered how he was finally head over heels to her. He remembered her caring figure, and all in her that he could not find in other girls. He couldn’t move on. He knows that life goes on, but he just could not get over her even though he had tried to. Her smiling figure always appeared in his mind every time he tried to forget her.

“What’s with the sudden question?” Seunghyun suddenly asked Mark when he was finally snapped back to reality.

“Nothing, I’m just curious. So, are we heading there?” He asked.

“Yes.” Seunghyun nodded.

“Do you know that my sister always talked about you when we met?” He asked.

“Huh?”

“Yeah. The first time she came visiting me, she was dead furious. She swore that she would take a revenge on you and your partner. The second time she visited me, I saw something different from her. However, I decided not to ask. The third time, she finally blurted it all out. Of course my first reaction was I burst out laughing because I was thinking that was very unbelievable. She said that she was falling for you. When she told me her story, I couldn’t help but to feel a slight disappointed but I understood that our heart is fragile. The border between hate and love is really thin. That’s why I approved her final decision. Personally, I do not like the way she died, but as her only sibling, I have to support her, just like the way she did to me.” Mark said while sometimes chuckled when he remembered Aerin’s figure as a very good sister. Where else he could get a sister like her?

“You miss her too, don’t you?” He asked Seunghyun and Seunghyun’s lips formed a smile as he uttered, “Always, Mark, always.”

“We are here.” Seunghyun announced when they finally reached the cemetery. Seunghyun unbuckled his seat belt and reached for the back seat to take the flowers that he had bought earlier.

“Roses?” Mark raised his brows.

“What?” Seunghyun asked back.

“Geez! I can’t believe you don’t know that she loved orchid.” Mark said while shaking his head.

“Remind me next time.” Seunghyun said before they walked together to her tombstone.

In Memory of

Hwang Aerin

June 12 1991 – December 12 2015

Seunghyun placed the flowers at the front of the tombstone gently. He bent down as he started to pick some wild grass that grew there.

“Hi sis, it’s been a long time since the last time we met, right? How are you? I hope you are now happy there. I know that you are probably watching us from above right now. I can assure you that everything is going fine. You see? Seunghyun and I are in a good term.” Mark said and chuckled at the last part. Seunghyun knew that Mark wanted to be alone so he moved aside for a while, giving him and his late sister a time. From afar, he could see that Mark was telling her a story, but from such distance, he couldn’t hear what he was telling her. What he knew was that Mark was quite happy. Seunghyun himself had missed her so much. He missed her laughs, her smile, the way she hugged him, the way she walked, the way she talked, the way she loved him, everything about her.

In the middle of his mind, he felt a light pat on his shoulder. He turned and found Mark was there and gave him a small smile, “I’m done. I’ll be waiting at the car.” Seunghyun nodded and walked to Aerin’s tombstone.

He flashed a small smile before saying, “Hello Aerin. How are you now? Do you miss me? Because I have been missing you for ages. In this opportunity, I want to once again thank you for our short time. You know that I will always love you, right?” He glanced at the shiny sky and smiled lightly. He then took out a paper that was now having a shade of yellow, indicating that it was old.

He smiled upon rereading the letter.

Dear Seunghyun,

By the time you read this paper, I will have gone far away from you. I know that you don’t hate me. I just knew it somehow. However, I want to clear the misunderstandings between us.

First, I have to admit that at first, I really hated you. Like for real. Who wouldn’t anyways? You put my only brother to jail. Even though I know that he was guilty, as a sister, I couldn’t help but to feel angry and disappointed. Therefore, I agreed with my dad’s evil plan. At our first meeting, I forced myself to speak to you, even though I prefer to just put a bullet to your head. However, when we were talking, I felt slightly attracted to you. I like your personality. But I tried to focus on my mission.

When you did not call me, I felt slightly disappointed. However, judging from your personality, I knew that you would make a call. I knew that you would call me soon or later. I didn’t know why I was quite happy when you finally called me. At first, I thought that I was happy because my plan would succeed. Little that I knew, it was a sign of love.

When we were having our first date, I was very touched. I could not deny my feelings. I knew it was something that I could not deny because it was so strong. I was actually very happy when we shared kiss, but I did not want things to go too fast. I needed time to fix myself.

When you confessed to me, you did not know how long I had been dreaming of that time to come. It was like I was at the nth sky. I was so damned happy. I wasn’t supposed to feel like that, but the more I tried to get rid of the feeling, the more I fell for you.

Like I’ve confessed to you, I could see the future. I wasn’t lying when I said that and I was very afraid of what would coming next when you decided to join that worldwide mission. I pleaded you not to join the mission not because I knew that you would not come back here. I knew that you would survive. I was afraid of the future. Because you were hurt, my dad had a reason to ask me to get you out from the agency. But then, I discovered new things. I finally knew why you weren’t dead even though you were shot at the chest. Your heart is not like what normal people has. It is not located at the left side of the chest, but at the right side; therefore, I could come up with all these ideas. I just needed one more check. I ordered people to sneak to the hospital and steal your and my health records. I discovered that our livers have a chance of 60% match which was a quite high rate.
I was very confused about what would I do next. In one side, I wanted my daddy to die in peace. On the other hand, I do not want you to die. I have already had a great plan in my mind, but I haven’t known yet whether it was really for the best. Hence, I decided to visit my brother and asked for his approval. Of course, he was surprised with my sudden confession. However, as a good brother he always is, he was fine with my new idea.

With that, I decided to do my plan instead of my father’s. I contacted Jiyoung before I ran the plan. I asked him a favor. Of course, he declined at first. He is a really good friend, you know? You are very lucky to have him. However, when I explained furthermore, he slowly understood although he would never approve it. What you need to understand is that this is all for the best.

When I looked at you, I felt hurt. When we met eyes, I felt sad because I knew that it would be the last time I could look into your beautiful eyes. But I had to do it. I made a deal with my dad that he could not shoot the head. He chose to shot your liver instead. My dad would be suspicious if I just shoot your leg or stomach because that was not the vital part that could make someone die. Hence, I aimed your heart, or what people thought I did. But I have known that isn’t your heart. Your heart is at the right side instead.

I asked my body guards to take care of my father’s dead body while I took care of yours. I dragged you to Jiyoung’s car that have been waiting outside. He was not unconscious like what you thought he was because he had used the antidote. Together, we brought you to the nearest hospital. Doctor said that you could be saved if there was a liver that matched yours. It was all exactly like my plan. I requested to be the donor. The doctor agreed. I was gambling at that time. I just hoped that we would match. Because I believe that if you are really my true love, my liver will match yours, we can complete each other. What made me really happy before my death was knowing that you really are my true love because we are really matched.

I just want you to understand the reasons I’m choosing this path. With this plan, no one I love will be hurt. This is the fairest way. My dad died knowing that you were dead already. He died in peace, just like his plan. You are saved and you can live your dream. I had asked Jiyoung to get you back to the agency. It was of course against the protocol and rule, but it wasn’t impossible because after all, you are the best. I will die knowing that you are my true love and I will die in peace too. Isn’t life really fair?

I just want to ask you one favor. Please take care of my brother. He is really important to me. He is a young man that just needs to be led. He isn’t a badass. Now that I’m no longer here to guide him and take care of him, please do it for me. Promise me.

It’s my time to go. I hope that you will be living a happy life even though I will no longer be in it. Please. You deserve to be happy. I just want to thank you for everything. Even though our time is short, I am really happy. Thank you for letting me experience what love is. I also want you to know that you do not need to search for me, because I am always there, in your heart. This is not the ending page of our love story. “You see babe? I’m keeping my promise. I will be a good brother for your brother and I will be a good agent for the rest of my life. I am happy because I know that you are watching me and I can feel your presence every day. I love you.” Seunghyun smiled. He then stood up and went to his car. Seunghyun finally understood that it wasn't his redemption or hers. There was no redemption in love. Love is gentle and love makes one is willing to sacrifice for others and that was exactly what happened to them. 

“Are you ready for the new page of your life?” Seunghyun asked Mark before he started driving.

“Never be this ready.” Mark smiled. Seunghyun nodded in satisfaction as he stepped on the gas. 

"I love you too.” Aerin smiled from above.
