Rule #8
The Rules of SurvivalRule #8: Trust your instincts. If you hear gunfire, you run, damn it!
Kyuhyun grasped the railing of the fire escape and swung his leg over it. He’d never been happier to reach a destination in his entire life, despite how short the distance was from the window to the metal stairs. Once both feet were planted on the landing, he took a moment to breath in and out deeply.
“Don’t stop now!” Ryeowook said, grabbing his hand and yanking him towards the next flight of stairs. “They’re probably breaking into our room as we speak and finding it empty. It won’t take them long to notice the open window and figure out where we’ve gone.”
“They’d be crazy to follow us!”
“They don’t need to. They have guns.”
Kyuhyun sighed and followed the attractive agent up the stairs, noting that he had a really nice . Just as he began to wonder how hard Ryeowook would hit him if he reached over and smacked his behind, he heard a whizzing sound go past his head. A couple seconds later, there was a loud ping as something hit the metal stairs.
“What the hell was that?” Kyuhyun asked.
“Bullets! They’re shooting at us from the window,” Ryeowook informed him, stopping Kyuhyun when they were a little above the roof of the neighboring building. “We need to jump fast so they don’t hit us.”
Kyuhyun cursed and kept low, glancing over at the window. Just as he spotted the shooter leaning out the window and taking aim at them again, he heard a loud bang and saw the man drop, the top half of him hanging out of the window. Just as suddenly, a man came running towards them on the roof they were about to jump onto. Kyuhyun recognized him immediately. It was Donghae.
“Hurry up, maknaes!”
“What the hell is he doing here?” Ryeowook questioned, standing upright and taking off his duffle bag. He tossed it down to his fellow agent, who easily caught it and tossed it to the side.
“I might have called in some backup,” Kyuhyun confessed. “I didn’t really feel right about ditching them earlier.”
Ryeowook eyed him hard as he swung his legs over the railing. “We need to work on communicating our plans to each other a little better.”
“This wouldn’t be a problem if you ever let me have any input on what decisions we made,” Kyuhyun pointed out.
“Who’s the NIS agent and who’s the computer hacker? Did you see me standing over your shoulder telling you how to decode the disc?” Ryeowook asked.
Another bang echoed in the air as Eunhyuk took out another of Shindong’s men. “Get your asses moving!” demanded Donghae. “We don’t have time for your lover’s quarrels right now.”
Ryeowook jumped from the railing and then pulled his gun to help secure the area. Kyuhyun followed after as fast as he could, jumping down onto the other roof with a complete lack of grace and Donghae helped to keep him from falling over as he landed.
“Thanks for the rescue, D!” Kyuhyun said.
“Thanks for calling,” he said, patting the hacker’s back.
“We need a quick exit,” Ryeowook reminded Donghae.
“My bike is two blocks east, on the corner,” he said, tossing Ryeowook his keys. “E and I will clean up here while you get the hell out of town.”
“Thanks, D!”
“But I don’t want to see a single scratch on her, R!”
Ryeowook waved off Donghae and grabbed unto Kyuhyun’s arm, pulling him to the roof’s exit. They ran down the stairs until Kyuhyun was nearly hyperventilating and to the back door of the building. Ryeowook checked the alley before they ran down to the end of it and started heading east down the side streets. They only made it a block before they heard rapid footsteps coming up behind them and then shots began to fire. Ryeowook shoved Kyuhyun behind the nearest dumpster.
“Duck, you idiot!” Ryeowook shouted, pointing his gun over the top of the metal bin and beginning to shoot their followers.
Kyuhyun pressed his hands against his ears. The gun was deafening from so close and the dumpster had been hit several times. He didn’t even want to know how many. Maybe seven? After what felt like ten minutes, but was probably thirty seconds or less, Ryeowook grabbed his arm and hauled him to his feet.
“Come on! Hurry!”
They ran the next block without incident and Ryeowook practically jumped onto Donghae’s motorcycle, immediately flipping up the kick stand and putting the key in the ignition as Kyuhyun caught up to him.
“Aren’t you dizzy
