Prologue
Variety RoyaltyShe was just walking down the streets of Hongdae with a friend, taking in the sights and sounds, when she heard screams and shouts behind her. Curious, she turned around to see what was happening: three people were running through the crowd, cameramen following them. She squinted her eyes to see who they were, and was surprised to see Yoo Jaesuk, Kim Jongkook, and Lee Kwangsoo.
“I guess today’s a Running Man film day?” she asked her friend, who was standing beside her and who was equally as shocked.
Her friend then shrugged, her eyes still trained on the variety show cast members.
She laughed to herself and shook her head: she thought Koreans would be used to seeing their favorite MC, Commander, Giraffe, and other celebrities out and about. It definitely didn’t happen very often in North America.
What happened next most assuredly didn’t happen in North America.
“Chaesuhahndaeyo,” she heard being said beside her. Excuse me.
She looked up, and saw Yoo Jaesuk looking down at her.
Her eyes widened. And I mean *really* widened.
“Dahngsheenee nawa hamkkae ohl su isseumnika?” Can you come with me?
“What did he say?” she nudged her friend, her own brain unwilling to translate, and her eyes still wide and on the nation’s MC.
“He asked if you could go with him,” her friend offered, also wide-eyed.
Jaesuk gave her a confused look. “Hangook saram ahneeaeyo?” You’re not Korean?
