Namsun was born on a chilly September night, and immediately given to his adoptive parents from birth. His adoptive parents had completely supported his biological mother throughout pregnancy and were absolutely delighted to be there for the newest addition to their family, the only male out of three older sisters. Namsun and his sisters were all adopted because of a rare infertility with their adoptive parents. Though, this didn’t change the way they were treated - instead, they were all adored.
Mr. Park was a history professor in Daegu, while Mrs. Park was a wedding photographer. The two weren’t necessarily rich, but they got by enough to live a happy life. As the baby of the family, Namsun was doted on by his sisters and received lots of praise for his adorableness. When his mother’s work slowed down, some of her friends suggested that she start photographing Namsun - well, this was the beginning of his child modeling career. Namsun became a well-known face across Korean media starting from two-years-old, leading to numerous child acting gigs. Though, as Namsun got older, he grew tired of photoshoots and filming and just wanted to be a child. His parents were quick to pull him out of it all when Namsun complained, and he finally was able to have a somewhat normal-ish childhood.
Academics were also very important to his family, considering his dad was a professor, so Namsun was naturally gifted intellect. He easily picked up facts and retained information and did well in school all throughout childhood through high school. But that feeling of enjoying being useful never really left Namsun. He liked feeling needed and relied on and also the validation he received, the complements that fueled his ego. So, he began accepting advertisements again as a pre-teen. Though, the modeling gigs and all weren’t really useful. He didn’t feel like he was using his full potential as a model. You barely had to do anything and received praise, so he was over it.
When Namsun became a teenager, his ego had inflated so much that it was insane. He became such a self-centered, egotistical jerk. He constantly fussed over his appearance and own skill. He was praised as handsome and smart, but he didn’t want to be just that. Namsun had always felt drawn to his creative side. He had liked acting as a creative outlet as a child, but that didn’t interest him now. Instead, he gravitated towards art before revolving around music.
There wasn’t an exact moment that Namsun became infatuated with music. The interest had always been there. He liked listening to songs, liked watching music videos, and getting caught up in the storyline and aesthetics. Just like every other teen and preteen in Korea, the Hallyu wave piqued his interest, not that he'd ever admitted it aloud. He was too cool for that. Although, groups like the classic Bigbang, BtoB, Ikon, and new-age kpop like Got7 and Bts really sparked something in Namsun. In his high school, all the girls (and boys) raved about ikon, Got7, and Bts amongst other groups and how they were gaining so much popularity as of late and even expanding to global popularity.
When his family moved in the middle of the school year to America for a job opportunity, he was even shocked by the reach of kpop in the states. Well, being the person who was insanely full of himself, Namsun felt a little jealous by the kpop idol reach. It was like he couldn't get away from them. He saw pictures, videos, advertisements of kpop groups everywhere - in another country, no less!
It was...weird, to say the least. He had assumed that when his family moved to LA, the influx of American culture would overshadow anything else, and yet, Korean culture could be seen here too. The move was a huge change, overall. He went from living in Korea his whole life and only learning English in school as a required course to all of the sudden only surrounded by American culture. Namsun was grateful for the English classes he had taken, or the language barrier would've just made everything worse. He knew the move was necessary because of the fantastic opportunity for his parents careers, but it still was stressful. Going from being one of the popular kids to the new foreigner was way worse than he imagined. Namsun had been so self-assured back in his old life, and now, he was in an entirely new environment where the same old rules didn't apply. Thankfully, the fact that he was in LA, though with a huge melting pot of culture, he didn't feel entirely left out. Instead, his high school was filled with diversity. It didn't take long for Namsun to acquire a friend group of other Korean exchange and Korean-American students that helped him blend in.
Namsun would never admit to anyone that this was probably one of the most harrowing experiences of his life, though. Being someone who preferred to keep 'weakness' and insecurity to himself, he'd rather die than share such an embarrassing burden. It was hard, to say the least. It didn't take long either for him to become homesick for Korea. The music he refused to listen to because he was 'too cool' suddenly became more appealing in the form of his sisters blasting kpop and fangirling at home. Hearing his native language was so comforting in a way he never realized before. The nostalgia of home was so surreal, and his heart actually ached for it. It didn't matter that he pretended to fit in at his new school and new country because deep within his heart, he missed home.
He found himself more often than not listening to his sisters' music blasting through the walls while he studied or just lounged around until one day he began listening to groups on his own. The more he listened to them, the more his admiration grew, and he became infatuated with the rap flare taking over the scene. Kpop idols didn't just sing, they could rap, dance - everything. They were versatile performers in a way that resonated only with his roots, his culture. Namsun learned this, especially from Got7's Jackson, who not only was a main rapper but a skilled vocalist and dancer. One night, in particular, Namsun remembers his sisters watching some idol news channel where they covered BTS' rappers, Rap Monster, J-hope, and Suga. Despite pretending to be annoyed by their 'stupid girlie crushes and fangirling,' Namsun couldn't leave the room. He was fascinated by Rap Monster and Suga's underground rapper scene, all three boys stories so different, and yet they were connected by a fine thread, eventually finding their way together to blend their various styles into something so powerful. Namsun decided then to start researching music production, which led to a spiral of his true love - music. Namsun was addicted and didn't want anything else. He used his parents money (that they had technically acquired from his own modeling spreads) to purchase a MIDI and spent countless afternoons and nights learning how to compose in search of that nostalgia of home - the thing that kept him connected to his culture.
Of course, his friends talked about all sorts of music at school, especially popular titles in America. Thanks to them, Namsun experienced all types of music to get a feel of various styles and elements, which only enhanced his composition work. Despite Namsun being quite the narcissist, he wasn't quite ready to tell his friends about his newfound interest just yet. He wanted to perfect it first before showing off. He studied main rappers and underground rappers from across the Korean scene, along with many American and British rappers, what with the grime style of Britain and the hardcore hip-hop to low. It was important to have a variety of categories to explore and adapt from.
One thing that really stood out to Namsun as a similarity of all the various rap styles - that was their passion. All of the best rappers were expressive and exuded passion, Zico, Bobby, G-dragon, Jooheon, Tablo, San E, Giriboy, CL, amongst others, all held the same traits. They were confident in themselves, rapping with conviction - if you didn't have the attitude, if you didn't have the raw realness, then you weren't . The delivery was only half the equation. Such as any teenage boy around the time, Namsun discovered Soundcloud - and god forbid - became a Soundcloud rapper to experiment with. This was all the rage in high school. It seemed like nearly all of his classmates had a Soundcloud account. This was, in his mind, a great way to get himself out there without revealing his identity but also gaining the feedback he needed.
At first, Namsun was awful and cringy and couldn't articulate for . His style was rough, and novice and even he hated it. So he did what every other teen did in the area - attend countless concerts and really immerse himself in the rap and general music scene in LA. There were so many acts with a wide range of styles, and even some local Korean-Americans amongst the group. Namsun had read about Ikon's Bobby and his start as a kid in America and how he became the great legendary rapper he was today. Bobby's story only inspired Namsun to go out and make a name for himself too. Namsun was even able to convince his parents to let him take a sound engineering course while in his senior year of high school at a local college that would count as credit once he graduated.
The sound engineering course was much more beneficial than Namsun would've ever believed. He met so many experts in the field, people who moved specifically to LA for their shared music dreams. Once Namsun graduated high school in America, he officially continued his sound engineering degree at the same university as his previous intro course. It was there, in his freshman year of university, that he was offered a part-time job with a sunbae's DJ group. To be honest, Namsun had no ing idea about DJing and personally thought it was kind of dumb. Still, he figured it was a good opportunity as any, considering his sunbae was amongst a relatively popular group of local Asian-American composers. He learned quite a bit from the group and his sunbae and continued to DJ with them for a whole year.
One night after a gig, he was offered a card from an entertainment agency recruiter looking for global talent for a Korean-based company. Namsun learned that said company was Fantagio, but he had to check every angle to ensure he wasn't being conned. But this was Namsun's chance to go back to Korea! After some convincing on his part to his parents, Namsun was well on his way to Fantagio under the composition branch of the company. After making it to the company, the recruiters informed him that they had reviewed his modeling portfolio as well, even tho he hadn't submitted it, and asked if he considered auditioning as an actor or model. Namsun quickly informed them that he'd rather audition as an idol trainee, and the rest is history.

Thankfully, the fact that he was in LA, though with a huge melting pot of culture, he didn't feel entirely left out. Instead, his high school was filled with diversity. It didn't take long for Namsun to acquire a friend group of other Korean exchange and Korean-American students that helped him blend in.
Namsun would never admit to anyone that this was probably one of the most harrowing experiences of his life, though. Being someone who preferred to keep 'weakness' and insecurity to himself, he'd rather die than share such an embarrassing burden. It was hard, to say the least. It didn't take long either for him to become homesick for Korea. The music he refused to listen to because he was 'too cool' suddenly became more appealing in the form of his sisters blasting kpop and fangirling at home. Hearing his native language was so comforting in a way he never realized before. The nostalgia of home was so surreal, and his heart actually ached for it. It didn't matter that he pretended to fit in at his new school and new country because deep within his heart, he missed home.
He found himself more often than not listening to his sisters' music blasting through the walls while he studied or just lounged around until one day he began listening to groups on his own. The more he listened to them, the more his admiration grew, and he became infatuated with the rap flare taking over the scene. Kpop idols didn't just sing, they could rap, dance - everything. They were versatile performers in a way that resonated only with his roots, his culture. Namsun learned this, especially from Got7's Jackson, who not only was a main rapper but a skilled vocalist and dancer. One night, in particular, Namsun remembers his sisters watching some idol news channel where they covered BTS' rappers, Rap Monster, J-hope, and Suga. Despite pretending to be annoyed by their 'stupid girlie crushes and fangirling,' Namsun couldn't leave the room. He was fascinated by Rap Monster and Suga's underground rapper scene, all three boys stories so different, and yet they were connected by a fine thread, eventually finding their way together to blend their various styles into something so powerful. Namsun decided then to start researching music production, which led to a spiral of his true love - music. Namsun was addicted and didn't want anything else. He used his parents money (that they had technically acquired from his own modeling spreads) to purchase a MIDI and spent countless afternoons and nights learning how to compose in search of that nostalgia of home - the thing that kept him connected to his culture.
Of course, his friends talked about all sorts of music at school, especially popular titles in America. Thanks to them, Namsun experienced all types of music to get a feel of various styles and elements, which only enhanced his composition work. Despite Namsun being quite the narcissist, he wasn't quite ready to tell his friends about his newfound interest just yet. He wanted to perfect it first before showing off. He studied main rappers and underground rappers from across the Korean scene, along with many American and British rappers, what with the grime style of Britain and the hardcore hip-hop to low. It was important to have a variety of categories to explore and adapt from.
One thing that really stood out to Namsun as a similarity of all the various rap styles - that was their passion. All of the best rappers were expressive and exuded passion, Zico, Bobby, G-dragon, Jooheon, Tablo, San E, Giriboy, CL, amongst others, all held the same traits. They were confident in themselves, rapping with conviction - if you didn't have the attitude, if you didn't have the raw realness, then you weren't . The delivery was only half the equation. Such as any teenage boy around the time, Namsun discovered Soundcloud - and god forbid - became a Soundcloud rapper to experiment with. This was all the rage in high school. It seemed like nearly all of his classmates had a Soundcloud account. This was, in his mind, a great way to get himself out there without revealing his identity but also gaining the feedback he needed.
At first, Namsun was awful and cringy and couldn't articulate for . His style was rough, and novice and even he hated it. So he did what every other teen did in the area - attend countless concerts and really immerse himself in the rap and general music scene in LA. There were so many acts with a wide range of styles, and even some local Korean-Americans amongst the group. Namsun had read about Ikon's Bobby and his start as a kid in America and how he became the great legendary rapper he was today. Bobby's story only inspired Namsun to go out and make a name for himself too. Namsun was even able to convince his parents to let him take a sound engineering course while in his senior year of high school at a local college that would count as credit once he graduated.
The sound engineering course was much more beneficial than Namsun would've ever believed. He met so many experts in the field, people who moved specifically to LA for their shared music dreams. Once Namsun graduated high school in America, he officially continued his sound engineering degree at the same university as his previous intro course. It was there, in his freshman year of university, that he was offered a part-time job with a sunbae's DJ group. To be honest, Namsun had no ing idea about DJing and personally thought it was kind of dumb. Still, he figured it was a good opportunity as any, considering his sunbae was amongst a relatively popular group of local Asian-American composers. He learned quite a bit from the group and his sunbae and continued to DJ with them for a whole year.
One night after a gig, he was offered a card from an entertainment agency recruiter looking for global talent for a Korean-based company. Namsun learned that said company was Fantagio, but he had to check every angle to ensure he wasn't being conned. But this was Namsun's chance to go back to Korea! After some convincing on his part to his parents, Namsun was well on his way to Fantagio under the composition branch of the company. After making it to the company, the recruiters informed him that they had reviewed his modeling portfolio as well, even tho he hadn't submitted it, and asked if he considered auditioning as an actor or model. Namsun quickly informed them that he'd rather audition as an idol trainee, and the rest is history.
