[ their playlist : songs dedicated to the vagueness and romance of my 20s i've dreamed of for a long time ]
✧ eunbyul to eunho when they're in eunho's car going back to tongyeong: "ho-ya, can you play me our playlist?" "pft, wang byul, you're just going to sleep anyways" "but i like the songs, it makes me feel okay, pretty please?" "anything for ya, wang byul"
✧ eunho could feel a genuine smile on his face as he saw the girl next to him slowly fall asleep. he made sure he stopped to adjust her seat into a lower position and took his denim jacket to cover her exposed midriff. he knew eunbyul was probably invisible to the cold of his car's air conditioning but it was better safe than sorry.
[ eunho's sad boi playlist : for a boy who never loved rain as he grew up, the look in his eyes convey just the amount of sadness and coldness the rain brought ]
✧ eunho hated the rain, he just never knew exactly why. when he was a kid, he'd say that it was because he couldn't play basketball outside with his friends and had to stay inside. now, he's so used to hating it that he's come to that point where he's asking himself "why did i even hate it?"
✧ eunho sighed as he glanced at the sight outside the window. it's raining heavily. his brother texted him, saying that he was working. , howon, it's saturday for god's sake. eunho undid his hairstyle since he already cancelled his plans. he took the wine bottle his brother was hiding in the fridge before enjoying a sip. if only he had someone to share this moment with.
[ eunho's usual good mood playlist : for a boy who loved going to the beach and enjoyed fun under the sun, there's so much he wants to share to his loved ones ]
✧ howon to eunho when it's eunho's turn to take the wheel on their way to tongyeong: "holy crap, eunho, what is this music?" "wtf, hyung, how can you not know about tropical house?" "it's winter in korea, " "whatever you say, mr. smartass, any time can be summer for me" "that's some ego" "i get it from you"
✧ this was the few times in one year the magnificent sea view with its breeze and scent was real in front of eunho's eyes. he and his friends went on a trip to busan and they were ready to have fun while getting drunk in the process. for once in a while, eunho felt at home. he was at a beach again. it wasn't the tongyeong public beach, but haeundae beach was close enough.
✧ the description for the first playlist comes from the translation of the title of the video that was written in hangul because damn, the feels
✧ ho-ya 호야 ・゚: among the friend group, him and eunbyul both share the syllable "eun" in their names so only eunbyul calls him by his second syllable instead to tell each other apart.
✧ native korean ・゚: his native tongue. being born and raised in tongyeong, he naturally speaks in the gyeongsangdo dialect. when he moved to seoul, he did try to conceal the dialect but it still appears whenever he gets hyped up, irritated or nervous.
✧ advanced english ・゚: being the mandatory foreign language at school, he did have to learn the lanaguage. since humanities or social science became his passion, he knew that it was crucial for him to be skilled in the language as many readings and teaching sources are originally in english. there are also several required english lectures in his major’s curriculum so he had to keep up his profiency in the language.
eunho's style of clothing ranges from tidy and neat to casual. his wardrobe is full of hoodies, button up shirts, t-shirts, jeans of all colors, dress pants and joggers. he knows when to dress neat and casual but everyone knows that if he does try to style his hair with a touch of gel or put on some fancy perfume he "borrowed" from his brother, there has to be something that caused him to do that. eunho always lets it show that he wants to impress someone whenever he does that. otherwise, he keeps his outfits simple and fairly casual. to battle cold weather, he has a variety of long coats, paddings, and trench coats. he is usually seen in his black converse high tops, black vans old skool or the classic 6-inch timberland boots but he does have a few sneakers from fila and puma lying around somewhere on his shoe rack. maybe if he looked harder, a pair of dress shoes might appear. he only wears those whenever he has to dress formal or business casual.

eunho is confident in his abilities and deep down, thinks he's able to overcome anything life throws at him. he doesn't bluff or talk about his abilities to others and lets his performance or results speak for themselves. eunho is sure of himself until further self-assessment and if the results end up returning with unsatisfactory numbers, this causes eunho to self-introspect but it's because of this ability that eunho's always ready to face a new day. he's able to do so because eunho trusts his ability to read the situations or people to understand how he can gain from his observations and reading of the situations or people. he's sharp that way. it's similar to how raon can keep up with the conversations albeit her seeming absent-minded.
quick to notice the wrongs among the rights, eunho knows how to make tough decisions in double-quick time. contrary to those who are afraid of upsetting the minority, eunho makes it a point that he's not afraid to bare the responsibility of his actions since he can't please everyone. his analytical skills help him see the world in a strategic view and in his standards, an idea can only be right or wrong. knowing life is a struggle of trial and errors, he's not afraid to stand his ground and own up whenever he makes the wrong guess or decisions in sticky situations. criticism and new ideas or methods are welcomed on eunho's table as long as they are followed by solid arguments and evidence, even those who go against his own logic and understanding if the thinking is sound. he's always ready to hear new ideas or methods in case any of them can improve his knowledge of the world in his strategic view.
having to be able to stand on his own feet to lessen the weight of his grandparents and to seem on par with his brother, it may be his childhood that shaped eunho to rely a lot on his own abilities and views to be able to bring good results. this only makes it hard for him to rely and trust on others for things that need to be done together as a team and others find it hard to tell him off when he's in his own zone so they just leave him be and let him do all the work by himself. it's because of his dedication to his work, he'll want to complete his tasks. he is goal-oriented but it can be bad for him whenever he has to juggle all his energy into all the things he's interested in, it can lead him to burnout or lose more energy during the hardworking process than he gains from the results of his work. a jack-of-all-trades, eunho is able to learn and flourish wherever he is. he can blend in with all sorts of different crowds and it causes him to know just about everyone. it can be a vice to him when people think him of just another kid. he can easily lose his colors and specialities when he can blend in with everyone.
having to compete with his brother all his life, eunho carries a very strong desire to be more successful, leading him to have a strong sense of competitiveness. it's dangerous as it inserts itself into his personal life. he may be blinded by his hunger for success that it can leave a bitter taste with his peers. when he senses he's losing in a friendly conversation, he lights up and refuses to back down to defend himself. this can rub off wrong to several people. it's good to have self-respect and dignity but eunho's heart has transformed his pride into a poison. he never says it out loud to protect and conceal himself but he's always concerned with the state of his future because he believes that the success or failure of his future is determined by his own ability to come through. this makes it harder for him to swallow his pride because he wants to come out of things unscathed without embarrassing himself and to avoid seeming vulnerable.
though eunho is always aware of having good attitude and be on his best behavior around others, his confidence may cause him to always walk with his chin up and head held high. he holds his own views and opinions high and it's either right or wrong with him when it comes to opinions he hears from other people around him. he's not afraid to debate or discuss his opinions and views. if he's proven wrong, he'll go with the side that wins the majority. his biggest worry is to fully expose himself, to be truly vulnerable in front of someone and to express whatever he's been keeping inside. it's a big weakness for him because up until now, he's always struggled to find the balance of how much he can tell to others. sharing too much and he risks being exposed or attacked. sharing too little and he risks straining his relationships with the people he's closest with.
the cha family consisted of cha daeoh, kim aejung, cha howon, and cha eunho. their father works as a marine biologist, befitting of tongyeong's status as a port city while their mother works as an industrial engineering manager. if you ask the locals about the house of the cha family, they would direct you to a house on the end of street with both modern and traditional aspects in the layout. the four-member family live there with mr. cha's parents. this results in the two sons being taken care of by their retired paternal grandparents, whom enjoyed watching their grandchildren grow as the years pass by. as expected of being the younger son, eunho grew up being showered by love and praises. howon grew up becoming the son who has to shoulder all the expectations and standards, sparing eunho from having his activities and lifestyle restricted in a frame of what his parents want him to pursue. although, he belatedly found out after he matured that he may not be truly spared.
he pitied his brother and the young boy he was always went over to him to ask if he was okay. howon would never say that he wasn't, which led to eunho calling him a liar every time. howon would always reason that if he doesn''t have a visible bruise on his body, that meant he was okay.
young eunho was smart back then as he answered back, "but what about bruises and scars on the heart? you can never see those!" howon's eyes would soften and his brother would simply say with a hint of melancholy in his voice and empty smile, "you'll undersand when you get older, okay, eunho?"
eunho had always been nervous in a new environment and mix of people but he could always get over it through basketball. it became easier for him to befriend the other male students as he played alongside them during recess and that reassured him in some way. he had a medium where he can easily be approached because surely, he would be a loner otherwise. he managed to draw people to him first and lee junghee was one of them. even as a fifth grade student, the older girl was always very friendly and approachable, a trait eunho appreciates in his friends but he never really did anything to befriend her. he only pays attention to her, raon and muyeol from a far and cordially answers to junghee every time she interacted with him.
this continued until it reached its turning point was in middle school, in 2010. junghee was a familiar face in the sea of new people in his homeroom class in their freshman year of middle school. cha eunho! he remembered her greeting him. nice to see you around, lee junghee, how've you been? he started off with a light conversation as she naturally led him to a seat in front of her and deep down, he was relieved to have junghee as one of the people he knew from their previous school. that's how he slowly became a part of the group.
this time around, eunho and junghee kicked it off. they'd help each other with class notes and whenever raon and muyeol were around, he naturally found his spot as he returned from his usual rounds of basketball to join the trio in their conversation during recess. eunho tried to make up for the past where he wasn't able to find his way into the trio. he really wanted to be their friends that time, but he just couldn't make the first move. it was a redemption for what he wasn't able to do in middle school and ever since freshman year of middle school, he was a member of junghee's friend group.
before his brother was told to quit sports to focus on his studies and grades, howon was an admirable power forward in the school basketball team. shooting hoops was one of the things the two brothers bonded over, although eunho hated every time he lost or howon cordially lost for him. this made eunho vow he would become a better player than his brother was. that was how eunho started to play basketball. when his brother still wanted to be a part of the team, he was stopped by their parents but eunho wasn't. basketball became his thing and he was allowed to play. it became his way of staying active and later, became a medium to channel his emotions and energy. this led to him becoming a part of the basketball team in middle school and high school. he felt alive on the court and his team members and coaches can vouch for his magnificent skills. even his brother would compliment him for his achievements.
yet, he had to go through his right ankle surgery after a nasty defensive slide he received from an opposing team member during the last game of his second year in high school. it would be an understatement to say that eunho was devastated. eunho knew it is what it is, injuries and surgeries are the dark side of sports but it was his last chance to take part in his school basketball team before he became a third year and the way he concluded his high school basketball career was utterly horrible. this was his second surgery through the years he played basketball, after having to undergo surgery on his torn left thigh muscle when he was fourteen in middle school.
the only reason he was able to move on from the surgery and work hard on recovering from it was the friend group and his then-girlfriend, kwon sabin. they cheered him up and gave him reassurance with lee junghee being the most optimistic out of all the friends. his girlfriend sabin had embraced him and seeing her cry for his injury made him more determined to get back on his feet literally. his parents supported him through the rehabilitation phase despite having argued with him over his involvement in the team and although his brother was in seoul at the time, he had called to check up on him.
deep down, eunho was still broken over the way he made his exit from the team but everyone close to him was cheering him on and pushing him to get back up. how could he possibly let them down? how could he stand still while others show him the pity look? he had pride and in the face of an injury like this, he wanted to show everyone he could bounce back from it, to show that he won't stay down or broken. he became determined more than ever to return with his head high and his chin up.
eunho was surprised as the friend group grew the more time passed and since he was a boy who kept quiet unless approached first, he liked the friendliness the group had. it became easier for him to loosen up and warm up to others. the group meant a lot to him because he wouldn't have such personal relationships with others if not for the group. he developed confidence in his people skills. it's evident in the confusion several of the newer members of the group show when he tried to explain the point that he was quiet and shy before meeting the trio. the cha eunho, being quiet and shy? nobody could ever imagine and believe that side to him.
having parents with scientific backgrounds led to them encouraging him to study science in high school. at the time, eunho didn't know what his passions were. he was taking his time to figure out what he wanted to do so when his parents encouraged him to study science, he was quick to follow through because he was confident that he could flourish wherever he went. he soon found out he struggled heavily in the subjects taught to him, it showed in his grades even after his friends had helped him study and explain to him before tests.
he found out that he was not interested in pursuing a scientific profession. he preferred the critical thinking, debates, trying to understand the world and attempt to improve it that social science and humanities could offer. he knew he made a big mistake thinking that he could flourish in pure science.
with his performance being compared to his brother's, eunho knew that science wasn't his passion but his parents couldn't accept that. they thought he wasn't trying hard enough. we gave you permission to play basketball because we thought you could handle it all. eunho hated feeling like he let them down so he told them that he wanted to move to the social science and humanities class, instead. at first, his parents were furious. how could he simply say that while he can't prove his competence in his current studies? i've never asked for anything but this time i want to do what works for me. what excites me. what i want do. can't you understand where my passions lie?
his parents ended up allowing eunho to do whatever he feels is right after eunho's paternal grandparents stepped up into the issue and adviced his parents to let their son pursue what he believes in, what he wants to do and what fits him the best. after the interference from his grandparents, eunho managed to switch to the social science and humanities class at the beginning of the second year of high school.
he had a lot to catch up but he was motivated. he felt different than when he first begun studying in high school. he tried his best to perform well in tests and unlike last year where he slept through every class, he was awake, catching every words of the teachers. his friends would poke fun at him as they paid attention to his change of attitude. sabin was in awe at the fire in his eyes. you finally look like you're enjoying yourself, huh? eunho could only smile as he nodded. i think i'm coming full circle after that . i feel really happy now.
his life looked like it's back on the right course after the move to a different class as well as recovering from the injury. he may never be able to play basketball like he used to, but he has come to terms with the injury. it is what it is, after all. he had improved his grades, placing himself within the top fifteen in the class after much sleepless nights and strict studying hours. not playing basketball led him to be more dilligent in his studies, gaining the approving nods from his parents and brother. you know, i would never stand up to mom and dad like you did but i'm glad you did. you seem more alive and motivated now.
once the window for college applications started to open, he knew he wanted to shoot his shot at the prestigious universities in seoul. his brother made it, he managed to get into kyunghee university in biomedical engineeering. he wanted to prove his competence and the level he can reach in the field he's passionate with. he wanted a better education for himself and for his family. his family knew that eunho could save some living costs by living with his brother and howon being the obedient child agreed to sharing his apartment with his younger brother.
sabin encouraged him to apply to universities in seoul together so that they can be students in the same city. they applied together to hanyang university but eunho ended up not making the cut while sabin did make it and was able to be accepted in chung-ang university, instead. at the time, eunho was quite disappointed that he and sabin didn't manage to make it into the same university but after further developments that led to their breakup, he was somehow very relieved that he didn't have to worry about bumping into her on campus as fellow students.
after graduation, eunho went his way to seoul like some of the other friends in the group who managed to be accepted in universities in seoul. he felt like it was a great timing for him to move to seoul as he was still hurt from the breakup. he wanted to leave tongyeong behind, for once. his parents were taken aback by eunho's behaviour and they tried to talk him into opening up to them. eunho didn't budge, he felt the pressure of their overbearing attempts to make him speak. he ended up ghosting and ignoring his parents whenever they try to contact him through calls and texts.
it was his brother howon who was able to tell their parents the reason of his behaviour. i just found out about this from his friend, but he broke up with sabin right after graduation. i think he's still very hurt about it. maybe that's why he was being such a brat. that's when the puzzle pieces fell into place for eunho's parents. they genuinely cared and were concerned for eunho and it was eunho's paternal grandparents that helped them mend their misunderstandings. he always managed to tell his grandparents no matter how personal the issue was. he felt safe with them. they were the ones who raised him when his parents were busy so one night, he ended up crying on the phone as he called his grandmother about his breakup with sabin.
eunho actually did miss his parents and after being told by his grandmother they missed him too from her observations, eunho was able to slowly get back in touch with his own parents. howon managed to drag him back to tongyeong for the korean new year and eunho admitted to all the things howon told them. tears were shed, relations were mended, and the cooking made by his mother and grandmother was devoured without leftovers. eunho, it's good to have you back again.

TRIVIA.
✧ after receiving surgery on his ankle, he had metal screws remain in his ankle joint to fuse the bones and stabilize the joint but with the amount of commuting and movement he experienced after moving to seoul, he found himself uncomfortable with his ankle and two years ago, had to undergo a second surgery to remove them. he moves around just fine now but may experience discomfort or sudden pain if he puts too much pressure on his ankle.
✧ initially, eunho was very worried about his military service because of his past surgeries and injuries. two years ago, after completing physical therapy for his second ankle surgery, he received a reexamination and was ruled exempt so he was unable to serve in the military after completing his freshman year of university. his best friend, chanseok had enlisted the year he graduated high school (chanseok finished high school one year faster than other '97 liners in general so his enlistment made him the same college batch as eunho).
✧ only started using kaomoji because of sabin, still uses them as it has become a habit. usesヽ(ー_ー )ノ and ψ( ` ∇ ´ )ψ the most to his friends in the chats.
✧ likes to play league of legends and pubg with his friends. he remembers how much he and sabin would play together. they were both very competitive and would make bets against each other. eunho loved that in sabin, she was actually not bad. his id has been "cha11ho" since high school, with 11 being his former jersey number in the basketball team.
✧ unlike sabin the dog lover, he leans more towards cats. his grandparents rescued a kitten that grew into the household pet, popo so he's more used to taking care of cats and if it wasn't for his brother's obsession with the cleanliness of his apartment, eunho would've already rescued a kittten for himself.
✧ can cook pretty well. he grew up loving to help his mom and grandmother in the kitchen with his brother and now, since his brother is rarely around their shared apartment, he had to be able to make food for himself from the ingredients in the fridge. also, having been a basketball player, he had to be able to eat clean and it becoming an eating habit of his, he now doesn't order food delivery as often as most people.
✧ in terms of soju bottles, he gets tipsy after the second bottle before shifting into a blushing, giggly and sleepy drunk after the third bottle. he can still type up a drunk text and share his location to chanseok. it's possible that he may overshare about his emotions and feelings when he's drunk when he's with his close friends like muyeol and chanseok. after that, he'll just quietly shift into sleep before you notice him sleeping.
✧ he's very cautious about his ankle and he can only watch on the sidelines whenever his friends play basketball because he doesn't want to stress his ankle even if it's been a few years since the surgery. or at least, that's what he tells his friends. his only workout now is when he goes to the gym to do some stretching exercises for his body and tries to do any workouts that don't engage his ankle too much.
✧ eunho has made several visits to tongyeong whenever he can on special occasions like the korean new year, his grandparents' birthdays, his parents' birthdays or chuseok. he sometimes goes with his brother, sometimes alone. he's always ready to meet those who stayed and catch up and returning to tongyeong had always been peaceful as his grandparents always give him comfort and wisdom but he doesn't know if he's ready to bump into sabin anywhere anytime soon.
✧ he indeed does have a driver's license and currently drives a handed-down kia k3 cerato forte 2018 that his brother doesn't use anymore. knowing that his parents will tell him it's better than having to save up to buy a brand new car, he doesn't complain about his brother's choice in first car of his 20s. he prefers to drive to his university on the day-to-day basis even if his brother's apartment is near the subway station.
✧ not the biggest fan of reading books but he found the paperback korean version of haruki murakami's colorless tsukuru tazaki and his years of pilgrimage one day at his brother's desk and was drawn by some force in his mind to read it. he loved that book and since then, reads whatever novels are in his brother's shelfs. sometimes, if he asks howon nicely, he gets to keep some of them. he's currently juggling reading how to react with a smile on an insolent person by jung moonjung and the social animal by david brooks.
✧ is sleep deprived like most college students, the main reason why his brother howon has to be his wakeup instructor and chanseok to be his morning call for his early morning classes every tuesdays and fridays. he tries to get back home before the last train and if he misses that time, he'll only end up sleeping between 2am and 3am.
✧ loves warm days or days that aren't cold because it used to mean that he and his friends could meet up to shoot hoops and because he grew up hating the cold winter nights.
✧ the type of person who writes down some of his deep, 3am thoughts in the notes app of his iphone. he'd never let anyone know that he does, though. some people don't see him as the emotional or sentimental type, but he is.
✧ being born and raised in tongyeong, he enjoyed going to the beach regardless of the seasons. he remembered the good times when the basketball boys would play games to decide who to throw into the water in the autumn. it was better when he was thrown during the winter as he remembered his past self shouting before being thrown, it's freezeing as hell, you idiots! he remembered when he and sabin used to go there and they kissed under the beautiful sunset skies. he remembered beating howon in a swimming bet when they were kids. he's had good memories regarding the sea and beaches so he enjoys visiting places that have beaches.
✧ would admit that he's clueless in romance as he only had one relationship all his life. after that one relationship ended up on messy terms, he no longer romanticize love at first sight or casual courtship. now, if he's going to fall in love or be attracted romantically, he needs to be able to trust that person and connect with them on a deeper, emotional level.
✧ he has his own pace in dating or romance that muyeol would criticize as a hella slow burn. he finds that trying too hard too fast only makes things worse and deep down, thinks that he can only find love when he's relaxed, at peace with himself and when he least expects it.
✧ artists he listens to often are george (죠지), hoody, oceanfromtheblue, crush, lauv, sasha sloan, ella mai

kwon sabin. july '98. highschool sweethearts, exes.
"i don't want to talk about it yet. still not ready."
they soon went downhill as lack of communication, silly arguments, falling prey to their own ego and pride led them to question their compatibility as a couple. there was so much they could've resolved to talking but sabin had always coped by escaping and avoiding and eunho was too clueless in love to put down his pride. sabin eventually dumped eunho after graduation without stating the reason. eunho somehow knew it would happen. her eyes never shimmer the same way when she looks at him for a year. he knew her eyes wandered for someone else, but he could never confront her. he didn't want to face the facts because he knows he's going to get hurt. all in all, the breakup was messy and they both lost a friend and partner.
eunho has yet to recover fully and although they still have each other's social media and both have ended up in seoul, they lost contact and whenever the friends gather, they don't come as a set anymore. it was hard for eunho to break the news to the friends so he rarely brings it up and gets noticeably defensive whenever asked but after a while, he felt like he was ready and he managed to open up to junghee, muyeol, and several of the other friends he's close to. word of the breakup naturally flew to the other friends like a chain as junghee, muyeol and the others passed it on to those who've yet to hear about the breakup.
with the passing of junghee bringing them back to tongyeong, the two will have to learn how to talk to each other in attempts to resolve any regrets or questions unanswered. their past history with each other needs to come full circle as they learn to face their wrongdoings and accept them head on. maybe by then, they'll be able to reconcile and move on before they can at least start contacting each other. as friends, now.

lee junghee. dec '97. close childhood friends.
"junghee... i'm sorry and thank you. for everything."

kim muyeol. june '98. close friends.
"hey, mr. law student, you busy or dead? or both?"
cha howon. may '94. older brother, housemate.
"hyung, you're working overtime again? oh, ok."
there's a lot howon doesn't share with eunho and deep down, he's scared of approaching his younger brother. he can tell that his brother seems to have something holding him back inside. why else would he be able to find eunho sleeping on the sofa with several alcohol bottles on the table? howon hated himself for being a coward. he wants to be able to pierce through to be the reliable and wise older brother for eunho but he knows eunho probably hates him already for being busy all the time. howon knows that he's probably responsible for eunho feeling this way due to his lack of attention for his brother and thinks that he has no right of telling eunho what to do or what howon thinks is the right thing to do after only turning away from him. "i'm already grateful enough that he still wants to talk to me and visit tongyeong together, it's just not fair for me to ask for more from my brother, he probably hates me," he confessed drunkenly to his friend about his relationship with brother.
upon graduation, the two still keep in touch through exchanging texts on the daily as byungho chose to stay behind in tongyeong to help the flower shop. whenever eunho asked byungho his news, byungho would joke that his mother misses eunho quite a lot. growing up, byungho often told eunho, sometimes i think you are my mum's real son instead of me. they often catch up over the homemade meal byungho's mother prepared whenever he comes back to tongyeong for the holidays.
seeing as byungho was close to sabin, eunho was hesitant in telling him about the breakup but byungho knew already from sabin himself, becoming slightly conflicted as he was close to both. approaching things with a rational mind, byungho didn't pick sides and continues to keep in touch with both of them. byungho was gentle in his support towards eunho post-breakup despite his mother sometimes not taking the hint when she sees eunho visit post-breakup. eunho found that he could unravel about the details towards byungho, the older male just listens and that's enough for eunho. byungho wasn't surprised upon hearing the breakup and again upon hearing eunho tell him his feelings for eunbyul. byungho genuinely hopes and prays the happiness of eunho and sabin, as ever-developing individuals and with their respective current plus ones.
knowing that eunho and muyeol are close even after moving to seoul, sooah ended up whining to eunho about her frustration and anger towards muyeol. it was in that moment, eunho knew sooah liked muyeol. it was too obvious in his eyes and after all the assists sooah gives to him regarding eunbyul, eunho is more than willing to help muyeol and sooah clear their misunderstanding. after all, eunho has started seeing sooah as a partner in crime, eventually enabling himself to warm up to her about his inner struggles. whenever eunho comes over to the two girls' apartment, they always end up turning the occasion to a house party and eunho has got to see sooah turn into a whining, obnoxiously cute drunk who'd overshare details about her life. sometimes, eunho would lure muyeol into the scene and he along with eunbyul would team up to set "trap" topics regarding sooah and muyeol's tense relationship. eunho finds it entertaining because muyeol being a clueless mess and not a complete to sooah is a rare sight for him.

academically, eunho is a stable student. he has maintained to keep his letter grades in the A- and A range, although that all may change soon this semester as his burnout is intensifying. it's those morning classes every tuesday and friday that irritates him because he has to make sure he doesn't waste himself the night before to get enough sleep to wake up and get moving but he considers himself lucky when he sees the gaps between each of his classes. it meant that he's able to go to a nearby cafe or restaurant with some of his classmates or chanseok or eunbyul to eat while working on his assignments. he makes sure he has some snacks in his bag to munch on as a "light breakfast" in case he's late. either that, or he'd buy some triangle kimbap from the convenience store in his neighbourhood.
fridays and the weekends are for relaxing in the apartment he shares with his brother, he often naps but he could never miss out on hanging out with his friends or on drinking away his inner demons. the only time he hates going out is when it's raining. he hates having to fight his way through the rain and would rather stay home and resort to drinking alone. eunho won't lie if he says that he'd like to bond with his brother but howon already has all these gym sessions laid out in the morning and socializing in the afternoon so he's rarely home. heck, eunho won't be surprised if howon was actually meeting his girlfriend or going on a blind date that he never tells eunho about.
✧ a inferiority complex towards his brother and distance between them ・゚: eunho loves his brother, there's no way he could deny it. his brother was a huge influence in his life but as he matured into who he is, he couldn't deny that one part of his heart holds resentment and jealousy for him. howon was polite, likeable and dutiful. he was the first child who followed through their parents' views while eunho decided to pursue a different path. eunho was always more loved, yes, but he never felt like he was equal to his brother. his brother was held in a higher view than he was for his career, qualifications and personality while eunho trailed behind. he hated feeling less than his brother. he also had his virtues and many people around him acknowledge them, but his parents still hold his brother more favorable. these jealous and bitter feelings have slowly grown into him developing a inferiority complex towards his brother, howon. it doesn't help the fact that howon is always nice to him and eunho misses spending time with him because howon's always busy with something and is rarely home but being in howon's presence may only remind him of the bitterness he holds towards howon so maybe, things are better this way. he doesn't know how to deal with this or what's the right thing to do and suffers from it on a daily basis.
✧ burning out from the pressure ・゚: since the moment he realized his passions, eunho has always been filled up with this flame, this hot desire to achieve and this determination. it was what kept him going, what made him study harder to catch up, the secret of his improvements. after reaching college, it was not easy for him. he was so fired up for freshman year, it showed in his performance but afterwards, eunho felt himself slowly get fed up. he felt overwhelmed the more he gets closer to his last year. he feels the pressure of being able to fulfill expectations. the pressure of equaling his brother, of piling in the specifications needed after graduation, of being able to find a job, of being satisfied with himself for who he is. all these factors are filling his mind every day and he's slowly feeling the fatigue come quicker. he's trying his best to hold on to the bright side. he loves what he's studying, he loves the prospects of it and the possibility of helping others excite him but he knows it's only a matter of time before he falls apart.
✧ maybe he's not yet fully over the past ・゚: looking back at his past and at his current struggles, eunho realized that maybe he's not yet moved on from the devastation, despair and disappointment of his past injuries. he had so many people counting on him that he had to bounce back from the surgeries. now, he knows that he's still not fully moved on and that he just forced himself to rush his emotional recovery without honestly expressing his raw emotions to anyone so the people around him don't worry too much because he's always been a tough kid. usually, those who recover from such surgeries would be able to continue their sport as a recreation, at least. that isn't the case for eunho so he knew it wasn't an issue with his body. somehow, his heart still aches whenever he sees people playing basketball. there's something inside his mind and heart that holds him back. eunho really wants to play, even just for fun but his feet freeze, his voice gone and his courage disappears whenever he wants to get closer to the basketball court.
✧ the passing of a dear friend ・゚: eunho never thought the first person around him to pass would be junghee. in fact, he'd think junghee would be the one who lived on until she turned ninety or more to see her grandchildren. he knew junghee all his life, from they were kids and even when he was still bitter from his breakup, junghee gave him a pat in the back. junghee was the first person to visit him after his ankle surgery so of course, knowing that he could never see junghee physically hurts. he's going through his own grief as he recalls all of the things junghee did for him and what he did for her in return. he has come to realize that he's always received more than he gave to junghee and that's why he's very broken that he has to bury her along with her warmth and the memories they shared.
DOES ANYONE CLOSE TO EUNHO KNOW OF HIS CURRENT STRUGGLES? HAS EUNHO SOUGHT OUT HELP?
currently, only a few people have seen eunho unravel. his best friend, chanseok is his main support system as eunho tells him every relevant detail and eunho depends on him to help lessen the weight on his shoulders by just listening to him. he tries not to let it show in front of his older brother, howon but being a clever man, it's highly possible that his older brother senses something is holding eunho down but he doesn't dare bring it up to eunho in case he's mistaken. his struggles are mostly emotional and internal so eunho always thought he had to bare it all by himself which in that sense, he's clearly mistaken.
✧ byul 별 ・゚: eunho rarely uses this nickname that everyone else more commonly uses to call her but there are times where he does out of habit from listening to everyone else calling her this and byul could swear to god that when he does, it sounds like the sweetest thing she's ever heard.

✧ chapter one: how eunho met eunbyul ・゚:growing up in the same neighbourhood in their cozy town, all the kids knew each other growing up and that was the case with eunho and eunbyul. the two simply knew of each other but weren't on close terms, having different friend groups at the time and eunbyul always occupied with figure skating training. they really got to meet and get to know each other as friends during middle school through the friend group just when eunbyul finally felt a connection with the group. they naturally exchanged greetings to each other and exchanged jokes or conversations and all that, personally bonding through their mutual statuses as student-athletes even if eunbyul definitely had a more professional and official position in that field than eunho. eunbyul admitted that it was nice to have someone understand the struggles of being an athlete and that led them to become so close that they wondered why they were never really friends when they were kids.
that was when eunho introduced eunbyul to sabin who wasn't his girlfriend yet at the time. the three became their own tight-knit trio. eunho loved them as a trio and more so after eunbyul and sabin got along well because he saw eunbyul as one of his closest female friends and sabin was the most amazing and perfect girl he's ever met. eunbyul hung out a lot with the two whenever she has time during school hours or after school but many who watch from a third-person perspective could sense that eunbyul was the third wheel in the middle of the romantic signals that eunho and sabin seemed to exchange.
everyone knew it was only a matter of time before the two became a couple and everyone was right. this had an impact on eunbyul, to see her two friends get together in front of her eyes. eunho didn't think much of how it would impact eunbyul. he thought she'd be chill and supportive about it. eunbyul was happy for them, yes, but ever since eunho and sabin became a couple, she felt left out of their trio as it felt like an equation of "eunho-sabin with eunbyul" rather than them being equally close to each other. this caused her to be conscious of her presence around the couple and she found herself thanking her figure skating training for giving her a solid reason to excuse herself from sticking around the two too often. she still enjoyed talking to them during school and texted with both separately just fine, but there was an invisible distance she had to keep.
✧ chapter two: two young high school kids ・゚:this continued on in high school. eunho still goes to eunbyul for friendly advice or a listening ear as he's most comfortable sharing sport-related concerns or emotions with eunbyul, the same goes for eunbyul. they were classmates in their second year and that caused them to slowly acknowledge the distance they've put between each other. eunho would tell her every recess, "wang byul, but we're still friends, right?" to which eunbyul would reply with a simple nod. eunho didn't want to lose a close friend that way so it was nice to hear that answer.
they grew closer again after eunho's dreadful injury. eunbyul wasn't present to see the exact moment he got injured due to participating in a competition but news flew fast amongst the friend group and eunbyul was shocked to hear that he was unable to continue his sport. of course, she couldn't imagine how he felt about that matter but out of everyone, eunbyul understood better than anyone the power sport can give a person to channel their emotions and energy and for eunho to no longer be able to do that, eunbyul felt for him. she wanted to be a good friend to eunho and provide him some support.
eunho remembered eunbyul being the third person to visit him after the ankle surgery. honestly, he was surprised to see her and didn't want her to know but he knew the friend group must've told her. he felt ashamed and embarrassed for eunbyul to see him in that state. she initially didn't let her in but knew she only had good intentions. he eventually let eunbyul in and couldn't look her in the eye. "ho-ya, how are you feeling?" just her short greeting was enough to spark tears in his eyes, eunho had no words possible to describe how he felt. he desperately tried to not cry in front of eunbyul. he had cried too much already when sabin came to visit and eunbyul was only the third person, he couldn't cry every time his friends came to see him. eunbyul gave him her sincere support and this led the two to have a heart-to-heart in an attempt to clear the air.
he had forgotten how much eunbyul and him had related to each other and was glad they were able to talk it out without one of them distancing themselves. eunbyul ended up drawing a star on his cast next to junghee's whale and eunho definitely cracked up at her obvious choice of doodle, "isn't there any other thing you could've picked other than that?" eunbyul couldn't believe that he was able to throw that jab at her after such an emotional conversation just a few minutes ago. "oh my god, you're unbelievable," she said as she rolled her eyes.
the initial trio of eunho, sabin and eunbyul was able to be seen again as eunbyul managed to be more tolerant towards the eunho-sabin couple. the three of them were excited during senior year after finding out that all three of them plan to go to seoul for university. they supported each other and tried to motivate one another as college application season started and they had to prepare their documents. eunho and eunbyul had similar choices, one of them being chung-ang university but eunbyul knew eunho put hanyang university as his main choice because he was encouraged by sabin to go to the same university so she never thought of the possibility she and eunho would both end up going to the same university.
eunho and eunbyul managed to graduate as close friends, relieved that they had their little heart-to-heart at the hospital and sorted things out. eunbyul was glad to be able to move to seoul for university without any strained relationships within the friend group. although, she couldn't possibly tell eunho or sabin about her strained relationship with her parents even if eunho may be able to give some genuine advice after what he had to go through before switching to the social science and humanities class during the second year of high school.
✧ chapter three: progress after meeting in uni ・゚:upon being dumped by sabin soon after their graduation, it was eunho's turn to unintentionally distancing himself from eunbyul. he didn't even get to know that she ended up attending chung-ang university just like him. he needed time to calm down, although he has yet to succeed even now so his contact with eunbyul had stopped for a while, seeing as he didn't want to break the bad news to her. eunbyul eventually got the news of eunho's breakup with sabin from junghee, who she was closest to in the friend group. the puzzle pieces started to fit together, after days or weeks of eunbyul wondering the reason behind the lack of interactions between eunho and sabin on social media. of course, eunbyul can't just get made at eunho for not contacting her about it because she couldn't imagine how he was feeling after the so-called sudden breakup.
it must've been a sign sent by the universe when the two ended up bumping into each other on campus during freshman orientation week. eunho was walking to their department building with chanseok when eunbyul and her classmates was walking out of the building. eunho's eyes widened, surprised that she ended up attending chung-ang university like him and eunbyul tried to avoid him but he went up to her and asked if they could talk in private. she wanted to decline but eunbyul's heart was heavy because she was also keeping her strained relationship with her parents a secret. eunbyul agreed and that day, they caught up on things. eunho knew something was up with eunbyul since she kept sighing profusely in between their conversation, a habit she does when she's stressed out.
"how's mr. and mrs. wang?" he asked out of curiosity but he didn't expect her to shake her head. "understood," he said as he decided not to pry deeper. he's been through a rough patch with his parents so he understood how hard it was to endure alone but he didn't want to see eunbyul do what he did. she was always there for him so it was his turn to be there for her. "wang byul, just let me be a good friend to you, like you did to me, though i can totally doodle better than you," he tried to comfort her and change the air in the room. eunbyul chuckled. for a guy who was heartbroken, he tried his best to cheer her up.
ever since they caught up and eunho promising to tell her the details on the breakup with sabin when he's ready, eunbyul tries to provide practical support until he emotionally opens up to her. be it watching crime movies with him, making his favorite foods, asking him about what she could do to help and more. eunho's grateful to have her around and also tries to provide his advice on her strained relationship with her parents. one summer night during their freshman year, he ended up telling eunbyul the relevant detail of his breakup with sabin he has yet to tell her after a bit too much soju. after she managed to send him home on a taxi, eunbyul who vowed to stay sober that night tried to process all that newly found information.
waking up with the biggest headache the following morning, eunho felt relieved that he can have eunbyul back in his life as a friend, a familiar face on campus. eunho appreciates eunbyul a lot just for the fact that she agreed to be friends again after their history. he always tries to repay her by going to her competitions and providing her the motivation and reassurance she often needs when she's stressed out or tired. he's always lending an ear or a comforting shoulder for her.
✧ chapter four: spinning in and out of control ・゚:it was unfortunate for eunbyul to have to announce the end of her figure skating career the following year and for eunho to have to watch her go through it all. it was as if he was watching himself during his last basketball game. eunho knew that her cut was deeper, her whole life revolved around figure skating and it was basically a part of her soul. to see her cut herself off from the world and to fall apart in the darkness broke eunho's heart. he kept coming to her door every day, begging her to open up the door and to talk it out but to no avail. he always ended up leaning onto her door, hearing the muffled cries and angry episodes she was experiencing on the other side. he also noted the leftover alcohol bottles in her apartment. it worried him so much, knowing that she was falling apart but not yet wanting to let anyone in. even, him, cha eunho.
eunho was competitive and somehow, this sparked something inside him. he won't back down until she opens that door.
"wang byul, please let me in." no answer.
"let's talk this out, okay? i'll come back every day until you're ready to open the door." he heard a quiet 'okay' as a reply.
the breakthrough point came when he went in fully equiped, hot chocolate and cheesecake in all its glory, "i got you all your favorite things. i'll leave them at the table but if you want them now, i'll set it up for you." she opened her door slightly, mentally cursing herself for being so easy to be bought. "why do you keep coming every day when you don't have to?" eunho tried to fight through the emotions surging into his mind, "just wanted to let you know you're not alone. been there, done that. here i am." eunbyul wanted to cry but she'd rather do it after filling her stomach. eunho watched on as she took bites of cheesecake and sips from the hot chocolate. she seemed different somehow, but he couldn't really put his finger on it.
"wang byul, you're not fine but not alone." and at that, eunbyul had reached her point. she felt grateful, touched, and calm for once. never would she imagine eunho comforting her. her tears just started to fall upon her cheeks, to which eunho quickly passed her some tissues. i can't seem to hate this guy.
"ho-ya, thank you," was her simple reply to which he tried to cheer her up, "hey, you're tearing me up, wang byul, if i cry too, we're never leaving this table. not today." she chuckled.
"always here for ya', byul, even with screws in my ankle," eunho never thought he'd be able to offer comfort or compassion for someone amidst their dark times but this was wang eunbyul. something inside him just moved him to be there for her.
after he managed to get her to open the door for him, eunho is always there for her in times of rain, snow, and sun. she just needs to call or text him and he'll be there. even when she suddenly calls him due to the emerging pain in her knees, he'd never show her he's freaking out or in panic and goes to her every single time. he takes care of her whenever possible and being around eunho is reassuring. he's been through an injury (or three! he exclaims) which means he legitimately understands what she's feeling and he knows just how to make her distance herself from thinking she's alone. it's okay, byul, we can grow into our pain, move on and try to be happy as we go.
✧ chapter five: fallin' like the stars, into love ・゚:their love is a slow burn, both demiromantics who take time to open up but they're trying. eunho stabilizes eunbyul whenever it seems like she's about to fall and being around eunbyul has changed how eunho sees his own life and struggles. taking care of her and seeing her struggle first-hand caused eunho to trust eunbyul. it's the least i can do, right? eunho thought to himself. he's warming up to her, opening up about his struggles to her one by one. eunbyul always pats him on the back and tells him all sorts of comfort. hey, you're helping me in so many ways, you're great! she tries to reassure him, he's the only whose unconditionally looking out for her and it feels great. she found herself slowly living alive as she started to cook, drink, watch movies, talk about herself around eunho.
eunbyul subtly tries to help him build confidence and always goes to some extent to ask for his advice in areas she knows he's good at. she always reminds him to focus on his strong points, to which he'd always remind her to stop being so hard on herself and to not compare herself with anyone else. the two former student-athletes continue to bond through providing emotional and practical support towards each other as they try to overcome their inner demons. they're connecting with each other on a deeper and emotional level, causing eunho to slowly see eunbyul in a different way. he feels like he can trust her with even the rawest form of his self and he cares deeply for her well-being, finding himself thinking of her all the time. his best friend, chanseok has identified this as eunho catching feelings but for eunho, he liked to see how things pan out before believing his best friend's assumptions.
luckily for eunho, there was a turning point last year.
eunho was walking slowly alongside her under the cherry blossoms that were in full blossom at yeouido han river park, eunbyul courteously matching her pace to his as she remembered the condition of his right ankle. they had gone around seoul for a night drive and finished eating the lunch box he made out of all her favorite side dishes before they arrived at the beautiful paths to walk the food off a bit. eunho found out the other day that the cherry blossoms would still be in bloom during her birthday. they could've celebrated over drinks and food at some restaurant but eunho knew that he had to be sober because she can't drive so he opted out of generic or boring celebrations entirely.
"it's ten minutes before your birthday. any wishes, wang byul?" he asked out of pure curiosity, his eyes fully focused on her.
"to do more healing this year, to be able to be more at peace, maybe make up with my parents," it was clear to eunho the hint of pain in her voice as she slowly answered. he knew she was thinking hard about the answer when he noticed her biting her bottom lips, a habit she does when she thinks hard.
"i'm sure you can do it, just take the baby steps, no rush and you got me around," he made a funny face, to which she laughed so hard she kept hitting his right arm.
"you're so dumb, i hate you," she said between her laughs.
"even if you did, i'll still come to your door," they both laughed. when was the last time eunbyul laughed like ths?
"take a picture of my beautiful dress, for um, future references with the background," she pointed to the cherry blossoms. eunho did't reject, she'd only hit his right arm if he did.
after he finished taking pictures and giving her phone back, eunho told her he's going to slow down his steps. he did so as he took time to look at the beautiful scene in front of him. it was as if it's straight out of a movie or a drama. he decided to capture it in his phone. it felt surreal to him in a way, sixteen year old cha unho would never have thought he'd share this beautiful background with eunbyul but twenty one cha eunho didn't find it odd, not at all odd. in fact, he found this moment with eunbyul healing, wonderful and heartwarming.
we've come so far and grown so much since then.
he wanted his future self to remember and cherish this moment, it may never come back. he smiled as he paced himself to walk behind eunbyul. she ended up looking back to his direction with a big smile, "it's five minutes before my birthday!" she stopped in her place so he could catch up to her.
"glad to see you enjoying yourself, wang byul," he said as he managed to catch up with her.
"all thanks to you, ho-ya, i'll definitely buy you a meal after class this week, remind me later," she said, clapping her hands in the process. that's good sign, she's excited.
eunho could feel his smile appear again. there was this fluffy, warm feeling inside his chest at the moment. as they walked down the paths and eunbyul blowing virtual candles precisely at midnight, eunho's mind and heart seemed to draw a conclusion of its own. one that he kept thinking as he drived her back to her studio apartment, as he lowered the volume of the music after confirming her sleeping. gosh, i like her so much.
✧ chapter six: what's holding them back ・゚:at the moment, eunho knows he's caught feelings for her since that incident last year and continues to take care of her, to pay attention to her and to be there for her. he's certain she likes him back to some extent but both know better than to commit to an official relationship when they still struggle with their inner demons. eunho still has emotional scars and lacks closure from his breakup with sabin, also not wanting to give eunbyul the idea that he's trying to get over sabin by being in a rebound relationship with her. eunbyul has yet to fully overcome the the psychological consequences of her injury that caused her state of depression and her strained familial relations.
there is also one unresolved factor, kwon sabin. before sabin became distant with eunbyul and broke up with eunho, she was their friend. considering their current strained relationship with the girl who used to be a part of their tight-knit trio, both know that them being in a relationship before mending their friendship with sabin will only hurt her as sabin may see it as a betrayal and possibly cause them to fall out forever. as much as eunho hates facing sabin again only for her to avoid their conflict, he knows that all of the tension will start to resolve with both eunbyul and sabin once he and sabin can talk it out.
eunho's sincere and serious about how he feels for eunbyul, wanting to wait for the right timing where they can be together without them having to worry about hurting sabin, emotional scars, lack of closure, their inner conflicts, psychological consequences, strained family relations and accepting who they are. i could never imagine where i'd be without her.
ENDING. will end up together, only after eunho gains some closure with sabin as well as his inner struggles and eunbyul reconciling with her parents and her current struggles.

✧ as a third-person, eunho's best friend chanseok believes that what eunho and eunbyul have is true love and eunho is extremely embarassed at his best friend's support for him.
✧ he thought his brother howon didn't know, but then one day, his brother point-blank asked him, "how's eunbyul nowadays? is she with you now?" eunho choked on his water. howon smirked, "she's the one who called your taxi last night, , that's why i asked." eunho sighed in relief, "she's getting better." howon whispered to him, "i won't tell anyone back home since she isn't your girlfriend yet." eunho cursed inside his mind, of course this motherer would notice, he's smart.
✧ eunho may told how he feels about eunbyul to muyeol, in hopes of hearing advice from him. somehow, he wasn't as surprised as he expect him to be. he's only told muyeol, who may have told raon about it. this is subject to change.
✧ eunho is the number one person she calls whenever her random pain episodes act up. he'll always find himself going to wherever she is in double quick time.
✧ don't tell eunbyul but eunho definitely has a lot of candid shots of her doing random things (i.e. tying her hair, sleeping, eating and posing for photos that turn out to be videos)
✧ he doesn't know what she saves him as in her phone, but she's saved as wang byul, precisely as "🌟왕별🌟".
✧ even if he openly tells her about his struggles, his inferiority complex towards his brother may be the hardest to share. eunho may never tell her about it. this is subject to change.
✧ eunho always tries to dress better than usual around eunbyul, she may not think much of it but others notice him wearing perfume and styling his hair a bit around the girl.
✧ eunho always notices her little habits and preferences.
✧ whenever he sees stars appear in the sky, he'll always be reminded of her and sometimes, finds himself calling her up.
✧ despite the itching temptation to hold her hand or slinging his arm around her shoulder, eunho holds back and would never try any skinship to her when it's not the time yet.
✧ eunho is more than happy when eunbyul lets him entertain her. he's always throwing in well-timed remarks whenever possible to see her reaction (hopefully, laughter or smile) and when she says she wants to go on a drive, they go.
✧ no matter how much he hates the cold winter weather or rain, he tries his best not to let it out show in front of eunbyul. he told her once when she asked him to hang out in winter, "meh, i think i can handle this much as long as you're around."
more to be added.
DID YOU KEEP IN CONTACT WITH ANY OF YOUR FRIENDS IN THE GROUP? IF YES, WHO DID YOU KEEP IN CONTACT WITH? IF NO, WHY DIDN'T YOU KEEP IN CONTACT WITH YOUR FRIENDS?
"like yeah. i kept in touch with some of them. junghee and i used to exchange texts a lot. i think, muyeol and i drank together a week or two ago. i respond to those who contact me first so i try my best to keep the exchanges going." he nodded as he remembered just which of the friend group didn't contact him first. kwon sabin, kwon sabin, kwon sabin. oh, and there's heo raon, sorry, raon my girl.
✧ eunho and eunbyul going back to tongyeong together for junghee's funeral in eunho's car and everyone's reaction to it
✧ some muyeol x eunho bromance moments, giving chanseok x eunho a run for their money
✧ eunho returning to his family house (maybe staying there during his time back in tongyeong), being greeted by everyone and then his family reacting to the fact that he currently has a thing with eunbyul after he came clean to them
✧ throwing people in the water seems to be a running theme in this app lol so the group does it to relive the memories
