-ˏˋ⋆ english substantial, takes it upon himself to know the academical terms regarding his major and to be able to read and write in acceptable english. not that great at spelling or pronouncing so he isn't confident in the language and often enlists the power of the internet to figure things out since in verbal english, he only knows enough to get him around when travelling or make basic captions on social media but is always keen on learning and improving because adequate skills in english are always a plus or a great boost on a CV so why not?
-ˏˋ⋆ chinese mandarin good enough, remembering that he had to go through hanja, hanzi and pinyin in his major in order to understand some sources of learning and studying for classes. he had to know some of the origins of korean words as well as several idiomatic expressions in korean that originated from chengyu or four character idioms (사자성어 or 고사성어). yes, at first, he thought he wouldn't have to learn another language but gosh, was he so wrong because he knew he was doomed if he didn't work his off from the moment he knew he had to analyze anciet poems or go through classical chinese scripts.

CLOTHING STYLE
what is in jihan's fashion? it's often so simple that you would think it's effortless. he sticks to basic colored t-shirts or buttoned shirts and layers his tops with outers from all sorts of material: padding jacket, long coat, denim jackets, plaid shirts or blazers of formal and semi-formal fashion. he also has a wide range of colored sweatshirts or hoodies whenever the weather gets coldere. he doesn't like to purchase patterned bottoms because he prefers minimalistic choices so that's the reason why he has earth tones, dark colors, comfy jeans or sweatpants in his closet. though, he also has several corduroy or formal trousers prepared for back-up and special occassions. he is not one to accessorize so the max he would put on for a bit of bling bling would be attaching some chains he thrifted at apgujeong rodeo drive to his pants and some vintage or local brand belts he got on a discount special sale. he often puts on sneakers that give a pop of color or dark converse and vans to complete the look. he also has a few pair of loafers that he bought in high school but still fits until today from dr. martens so he's got a fairly decent composition and variety in his closet that spices up his appearance.

at first, it'd be hard to notice jihan in a crowded place. his soft facial features and quiet demeanour are often overlooked by the noisy crowd. he'd avoid approaching others first and keep to himself because he's rather afraid of speaking up. he's not too keen on having many friendd and this has led him to prefer having just a select few close friends around him. you'd be lucky to be in his select few as jihan values loyalty and togetherness in his friendships even if he's often shy and takes longer than others to fully adapt to his new surroundings. jihan is the type to devote himself to his friendships and those he treasures. he'd never leave you alone and often surprising others, he's vocal about how much he cares.
inside, jihan is always in check with how he's feeling and thinking. he trains his mentality and tries to minimize the overthinking in his mind. he keeps himself in the moment, focusing on the positives in life as he lives. jihan does not try to change the situation so he doesn't resist and gets dragged under the dominance of others. all this may stem from his shyness and insecurity. he rarely feels good enough for himself and isn't sure if he's doing a great job. prone to being anxious and worried over trivial things, he needs extra reassurance to boost his confidence. it adds to the reasons why he tries to minimize the overthinking because it adds on to his unintentional self-sacrificing. he gives more than he receives and it's concerning to others around him how that could be his curse as well. he cares too much, keeps people too close to his heart and overlooks his own struggles for the sake of others. he's always so close to being insecure and uncertain but when it comes to certain people, he just can't help but go all-in for them without giving a care for his insecurities.
when considering just his strong points and surface-level facade, he's certainly a good fit to be a teacher. always understanding others and overcoming life with a big sense of patience, jihan's biggest blessing is perhaps his kind heart. he's someone who always shows compassion and empathy. it's always reassuring to be around jihan as he could provide emotional suppport and motivation to others without pressuring others to share to him. he knows better than to pry and to ask someone to unreadily share their burdens to him. he's always ready to wait. it's as if he was born to become someone's support system. only time will tell if he can overcome his weaknesses to be able to become a great teacher because he truly wants to help kids while being the "cool teacher".
POST-BREAKUP CHANGES
oddly, he's become very sentimental and deep in thought after the breakup. at the end of the day, when he opens a can of cold beer and stares out his window, he gets all caught up in the past and the wistful thinking of "what if" scenarios. it's clear he still hasn't fully gotten over it and well, not many can tell him otherwise. they dated for a fairly long time (was it two years? two and a half? almost three?) and he devoted himself to her.
there's so many parts of his life that still has her touch or influence and well, he's trying his best to sooth the pain of losing her because he knew he lacked the confidence and initiative to beg her to stay. he let her go because he knew that's what she wants. yet again, he yields and for the nth time, he faces the consequences of just being so accomodating. he's been working on that a lot because he thinks that she fell out of love with him due to that. he's just grateful that he could meet her again through "transit love". after all, she was his first everything who even waited until he got discharged from the military (even if she, in the end, had dumped her a few weeks afterwards) and he loved her with all his might so even if it ended bitterly, he knows he has no regrets of his affection.

seon jihan was born in gimpo to a father working as a software engineer, a mother who chose to quit her job as an art teacher and an older sister with quite the strong personality (read: he always loses to her and has learned not to get into a quarrel with her). they were a normal middle-class family who lived in a korean townhouse not far from the city.
all his life, strangely enough, jihan never wanted to become an engineer. he didn't want that corporate job and the office hierarchy that comes with it. it was just never in his mind to pursue something that feels so mechanic and stiff (in his eyes, at least). jihan thinks that he gets it from his mother whose fluid movement and choice of words have helped him grow to a man aware of his own direction and feelings.
he chose to pursue his current major as he's always lived being fueled with the desire to help others and make the community a better place to live in. having seen him to grow up being service-oriented, his parents weren't surprised. they knew their expectations of jihan were never meant to be, instead it was jinae who took interest in the engineering field and had an ambition to climb up the corporate food chain. and, in jihan's eyes, his sister was qualified and suitable for such a career, considering her personality. she was a fighter and a girl boss in the making, after all.
the reverse on the two siiblings' ambitions in life was always labelled 'unique' by their neighbourhood but his parents didn't care much of others' views. becoming a teacher was always in jihan's mind and if he was set on becoming a good teacher, his parents respect him for the very honourable choice since considering korea's society, not many would grow up wanting to become a teacher.

on a daily basis, jihan heads and bickers all the time with his sassy and confident older sister, jinae. they know what they need to know about each other and stay away from invading each other's personal lives. jinae, being the older sister, is often the one contacting jihan to ask how he's doing or to inform him of their parents' words about him but if jihan doesn't come to her first with his personal problems, jinae's not much interested in asking about it first. her hands are full enough to juggle her work, family, friends and health.
if jihan doesn't ask for her opinion or advice, then why bother? but even so, jinae still cares for jihan a lot as she doesn't want him to get hurt or to be sad. perhaps, that's the reason why she always shows up at his doorstep whenever she needs to drink to wash away her stress. it's just one of her ways of trying to bond with him and get him to express himself more.

the guy his sister seems to be having a something with, oh yoochan is often seen hanging out with jihan after hours or whenever they are free. the two met because they live in the same apartment building. the amount of late night drinking in each other's house, the amount of daily exchanges about the groceries, the amount of shared small talk and greetings have made the two bond and become friends. more so, when jihan found out that he had crossed paths with jinae over a few car maintenances and all that.
yoochan is a bit more dilligent and sporty (jinae mentioned being a part of the national soccer youth team? no wonder he's fit enough to be a police officer) than jihan is, which is the main reason jihan always finds himself roped into late night or early morning exercises. even with his rather tough demeanour, yoochan has a wide social circle (it's the smile of his that never fades within when dealing with drunk citizens or rude ones) and jihan is always amazed at how kind of a person he is.

jihan would have classes scattered all throughout the weekdays, from as early as 9am to as late as 4pm. he religiously took public transportation every day, enjoying the rare moment of silence and being alone on the way back home with ambiance music playing through his earphones. walking a good ten minutes from the bus stop to the apartment he lives alone in, jihan always finds himself stopping at the convenience store to buy a canned beer or cider to replenish his energy after hours.
as of april to july, he'll be a student teacher at chung-ang university high school in korean language and literature in order to complete his required teaching training and on-field experience as a prerequisite for his thesis defense. the school is located a good fifteen to twenty minutes away from his apartment so he has now adopted taking a bicycle for normal days of duty. he would wake up at 6am or 7am and prepare to leave for work before coming back at 7pm to 8pm.
although, recently he's trying to get himself used to driving a car for transportation thanks to the car his sister jinae gave to him that she no longer used (but insurance and quality was still guaranteed). he does have a driver's license, he just never really had a car to get that license in practice.
he's usually greeted by his dog obok who keeps him company as he resorts to drinking alone. though, it is not rare for jinae or yoochan to come over to drink with him as the conversation leads them to share their thoughts or sentiments on the world, their daily life and their unknown future. jihan always found those conversations the replacements of having actual 3am thoughts. he's never had to stay awake until that late, 2am is his maximum limit. he's often making the most of his weekends with his friends or classmates, although it's not rare for him to be suddenly whisked on late night outings on the weekdays too. his friends would say they'll study but really, studying is only the first three hours of their grand hangouts or night adventures.

02. WHAT MAKES YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS SHOW?
it's rather simple, really. jihan flashes an empty smile of mixed feelings. it's because she's participating. i don't think i can have another chance of meeting her (after the breakup) if not for this show. jihan hesitates, biting his lips. it's my last shot.

i don't think there was anyone at a big fault for the breakup. relationships can get sour or slowly boil down. the interviewer gestured for jihan to pick one if he had to choose. oh, without a doubt, it would be me. i would never hold her responsible. jihan had paused briefly before answering. after the answer of the previous question, such an answer might seem contradictory. it does seem strange that i answered that but it's true. i think they fell out of love and affection for me. those who've been through it know that slight difference in their actions or words and it's quite... painful. jihan lets out a bitter smile.
06. DO YOU STILL HAVE SOME LEFTOVER FEELINGS WITH YOUR EX?
jihan need not any second of hesitation for this question. there was no doubt in his mind. yes, definitely. there's still so much i want to tell her. you could say, we have unfinished business.
07. DO YOU WANT TO GET BACK TOGETHER WITH YOUR EX?
well, it takes two in a relationship, right? i can't just say i want to get back with her and expect her to agree on that. the interviewer raised their eyebrow. okay, well, yes, i do want to get back together with her. that's my short answer.

COMMENTS hello, here's seon jihan whose a revamp or redoing of an old male app of mine (hwang jihan) that never saw the light so i hope you could appreciate him and let me know how you think about him.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT personally, i do have hopes of jihan getting back together with his ex if the circumstances align. his personality may not see him sway to another person because he's loyal and sees a lot of meaning in their history but he wouldn't mind getting to know other people and who knows, if he were on the receiving end of attention, he may open up in the latter stages of the show.
if it were not clear enough, the main reason why she fell out of their relationship was because he was away from her during his military service so that's why she broke up with him as soon as possible after he was discharged. in jihan's perspective, that's a big blow and he has this unresolved mix feelings about the ending of their relationship. he has no regrets but there seems to be more to the ending and he's quite curious to see what that is.
