yes, kwon sabin is a spoiled kid, anyone with a sane mind could tell. she is querulous, daring and troublesome because at the end of the day, she knew her father would always be there for her, to back her up. clearly, sabin is aware of that and takes advantage of it. sabin likes things to happen under her control. it has always been like that, since when has it changed? when she was young, if she cried, her father would always buy her that new ice cream. when she grew older, her friends would spoil her though it didn't show that obviously. and then she met eunho and dohwan, who treated her like she's a real princess. things always go in her way with her consent. and thus, she became incapable to face consequences and failures she didn't expect: like her father being hospitalised, or her breakup with eunho. because there was always people to save her , she never had to handle problems and conflicts.

kwon sabin was born as kwon jihoon and park jiyoung's only daughter in 1998. park jiyoung passed away in a car accident when sabin turned four. with little and limited memories with her mother, jiyoung's death itself didn't affect sabin much, until she realised everyone has a mother but her. but jihoon worked his best to provide only the best to his precious daughter. he spoiled sabin a lot and whatever sabin's friends had, sabin would have one. fortunately, kwon jihoon being the owner of a company and an esport club allowed him to provide a materialistically satisfied childhood for sabin. her childhood was fairly fine with her father's protection, except the moments when people gave her sorry glares when she revealed that her mother passed away when she was four. sabin's hobby of gaming was greatly influenced by her father's business, and she has always been one of the more tech-savvy kids among her peer.

when she first entered middle school, she met heo raon and cha eunho. as sabin hung out more and more with raon exchanging their art works and inspirations, sabin was introduced to junghee's group of friends. sabin's outgoing personality made it easy for her to quickly blend in the group. she got along with most of them as the group expanded, and was the mood maker of the squad along junghee. she also got close to cha eunho, another member of the squad. being one of the more petite member and as a kid raised by a single parent, sabin was greatly spoiled by her friends. perhaps kwon sabin is just the type of person who easily becomes the group pet with everyone's attention. many of them were rather protective of sabin, and tried to compensate her lack of maternal bliss, like the way her father did. they didn't know their protection and support of her relationship with eunho would end up stressing her, hoping not to disappoint them.

the friendship continued even when they got into high school. sabin has grown into a gorgeous lady by the time she reached sixteen, therefore she was one of the more popular student in high school. however, she continued hanging out with her old friends instead of hanging out with the other popular students, except for eunho, the high school prince. she was more comfortable with her old friends. and some of them attended the same high school as her, so it's normal for sabin to play with her old friends.

with sabin being the princess of the squad, junghee and her were the core of the squad. though junghee and sabin were not the closest out of the group, they had similar personalities and brought energy and fun to the squad. when she started dating eunho in high school, she never thought that their relationship would affect the squad at all. the moment eunho and her broke up after graduation, she couldn't wait and leave tongyeong for good so that she wouldn't have to face the consequences. it was almost impossible for eunho and her to go back to how they were. so that her friends wouldn't be disappointed and convince them to get back together. over the years, she not only felt guilty for abandoning eunho and their relationship, but she also felt responsible that the squad slowly drifted apart. she didn't hang onto the squad because eunho was a part of it, and she wanted to escape the history strangled with tongyeong, when she knew how much junghee cared about them.

she gained interest of drawing when she saw raon always doodling and sketching in her sketchbook. kwon jihoon then sent her to drawing classes and with the evolution of kpop idols, sabin soon found herself jotting down ideas for her idols' comeback stages. sabin got inspired by raon and developed great interest in drawing and art. she figured out her passion in stage design when she was in high school and has set her mind on pursuing theatre design in seoul. therefore, she applied for hanyang university in seoul, hoping to major theatre and film there. she has always wanted to go to seoul after graduation, so that her father could expand his business better in a more developed city, instead of staying in tongyeong for her.

sabin's father initially ran a small computer company in tongyeong. he then saw the opportunity of investing in esport in 2010, therefore began recruiting trainees since 2012. the first team got outstanding results in lck 2013 spring, and tgx developed rapidly since. tgx began to recruit members from all over south korea, and had several training bases outside tongyeong. after all, seoul had better training environment. but kwon jihoon remained in tongyeong, only arranging trainings in seoul before matches and travel back and forth for business meetings because he couldn't leave sabin alone in tongyeong until 2016 when he officially moved the headquarter to seoul. tgx established bases in shanghai and taipei over the years. in early 2020, kwon jihoon, the founder and ceo of tgx, was hospitalised due to heart disease. it is currently taken over by kwon sabin as an interim ceo.

cha eunho was her high school sweetheart and her ex-boyfriend. they have known each other for a few years and had always been close within the group before they got together when they turned fifteen. so when eunho confessed to sabin one afternoon after class, she didn't hesitate and agreed being his girlfriend. they were dubbed as the golden couple by the other members of the squad, and that was what kept them from breaking up until high school graduation. there were sparks and chemistry between them but sabin always felt that there is something missing. many nights at 2am after another silly argument with eunho sabin couldn't help but wonder if they were better off just friends. but no one really took it seriously. cha eunho and kwon sabin belonged to each other, they said. it is unimaginable for cha eunho and kwon sabin to seperate, they said. cha eunho and kwon sabin always find their ways back to each other, they said. clearly, there was insufficient connection and communication between two secretive person. she found it a bit tired especially when it was hard for eunho to put down his pride after another disagreement between them. so when graduation arrived, the relief of leaving tongyeong and separating from the squad hit her and she decided to officially call off the relationship with eunho. eunho was hurt, both his pride and his feelings. sabin never bothered to talk about the problems with him, and instead just giving up on them without putting efforts. she didn't want to. she didn't have the courage to confront him. he never told sabin that her eyes never sparked for him for almost a year, instead her eyes wandered around looking for a certain someone. the breakup was messy and it left a scar on both of them. both of them lost a friend and a partner. to both of them, their breakup was both solved and unsolved. it marked a flawed period to their times in tongyeong. even though they both ended up going to seoul (since they applied for universities together), they never contacted each other. they still have each other's sns, but there is barely any interactions. sabin just disappeared from the squad. but now that they've gathered in tongyeong because of junghee, they would eventually learn to face and accept their past history as they grew into a more mature person. sabin no longer avoids her problems and would reach out to eunho to apologise. they would start to reconcile and slowly resume their previous friendship.

jungyeon and sabin met in university as classmates. they have become close since orientation in their first year. they register the same modules and attend lectures together. they are inseparable in the campus. jungyeon is also the outgoing type of people so they clicked upon first meeting. jungyeon is more mature than sabin and she takes care of her a lot despite seemingly constantly fooling around with sabin. they tell each other everything and jungyeon knows not to interfere sabin's feelings underneath. that said, when sabin wants somebody to talk to, jungyeon is always there for her. but why does it feel like there's this unsaid gap between them? the time when jungyeon doesn't understand the inside jokes she made with reference to tongyeong? was it because she was from tongyeong and jungyeon was from seoul? was it because jungyeon came from a girls' school? then one day she realised: oh jungyeon never participated in her past, after all. kwon sabin's past that is ultimately undetachable from her.

eunbyul and sabin used to be close friends. as they were introduced by eunho to one another, they slowly grown close, finding themselves hanging out alone after school, sometimes with eunho. they've formed their own little trio within the squad. eunbyul knew there's so much more about sabin behind her slow-witted facade, and she just naturally took care of sabin being the more mature one without trying. there was an excessive energy from sabin for eunbyul to take in but she didn't hate it. however, when sabin decided to escape from tongyeong, she also chose to escape from eunbyul. eunbyul tried to hold onto their friendship but not after how she was crushed by the accident. maybe somewhere deep down in their own subconsciousness they were waiting for each other to reach out as it would be a lie if sabin said she didn't miss eunbyul. but it never happened. when sabin returns to tongyeong, she had prepared herself to be the guilty one, being sorry to everyone she chose to abandon. until she saw eunho and eunbyul coming back together. but why did wang eunbyul had to go to cha eunho out of everyone? things always happen under her control and consent in tongyeong. how did this happen? and so the resentment and anger further pushed sabin away from them. but they have returned to tongyeong. the place where everything started. when sabin and eunbyul found themselves sitting on the old spot they used to go to during breaks, they couldn't help but reminisce about the past and what they missed over the years. all it took was a deep, heart-to-heart talk after all.

honestly byungho might be the only one in the group who could control sabin, who could stop her from completing all her stupid ideas, and who could shut her up. with both of them being raised by single parent, they really had a strong connection and could empathise with one another. byungho was like the elder brother of sabin. byungho was the one who would educate sabin and had this mom talk with sabin behind everyone's back. sabin, stop talking, as he would always say. however, he is also the one who supported her and spoilt her the most. sometimes even surpassing eunho. hence sabin didn't dare to tell byungho that she broke up with eunho. she just left. and with byungho staying in tongyeong, they naturally fell out of touch. sabin definitely missed her brother figure, and hopefully with the reunion in tongyeong, they could go back to the days while they were close friends.

occupation. ceo of tgx (on interim basis), theatre and film major at hanyang university (currently taking a year off)

daily schedule.

a few months before when she was still an ordinary university student, she would go to classes according to her class timetable, sometimes staying behind in the studio to finish her artwork and assignments. after class, she might visit dohwan during trainings at the headquarter of tgx in seoul. on dayoffs she might go on a date with dohwan or they would chill and watch a movie at drive-in theatres. sometimes sabin would hang out at dohwan's dorm while his roommates aren't around since her roommate, jungyeon, is not very comfortable of sabin bringing her boyfriend over.

currently, as she has temporarily taken over her father's work, she has to go to tgx headquarter at 10am on weekdays. she would go over the documents that she needs to sign on behalf of her father and tgx. she has to maintain a good relationship with the sponsors, and to go over the members' conditions and performances with the head coaches of different game teams. the work is mundane and repetitive. occasionally, she might check up on the players while they are training. she needs to make sure the targets are met in each quarter, such as the streaming views and subscribers. she usually leaves the company at 6pm if she doesn't have to stay behind for urgent meetings. some days she would need to meet sponsors and investors. she tries to visit her father once every week to see if his body is improving. she has much less time for entertainment since she just completed the stage of taking over. whenever she has time she would be visiting her father or hanging out with dohwan. if she's fortunate enough she would have time for dinners with friends after work.

struggles.

sabin is currenly struggling between taking over her father's esport club tgx and going after her genuine passion as a stage designer. a few months into handling her father's work, she already longed for sketching floor plans, drawing stage effects, going over with light and sound designs. she naively thought with her interest for gaming she could really take tgx as her future career. but unless she found someone worthy enough and loves the boys as much as her father does, she couldn't just let her father's effort go in vain. she knew her father could no longer handle such intensive work after leaving the hospital. her father is not just the ceo of tgx, but also the founder and previous coach. tgx means a lot to her family, and she can't just let it end up on someone in the company. and sabin couldn't talk into herself for walking off and selfishly continue pursuing something she really, really likes.

and it was lonely. none of her peer are as invested as she is in a company, let alone being of top management level. everyone around her in the company is her senior, they would guide her, but they are not her friends. furthermore, the work wasn't easy. it was challenging and she was taking the responsibility of so many people's careers. for all her life sabin was a chill and laidback person. nothing really bothered her and nothing really needed her to take it seriously. but now she had to take over an entire company. sabin had a hard time to really focus and not ruin her father's empire. kwon sabin was never a clever person. she can't make quick decisions that are most efficient and profitable to the company. and she hated the feeling of unable to control the situation. everything was getting out of her hands.

but maybe the loneliness wasn't just because of the work. the loneliness that has been lingering around ever since she moved to seoul might be due to kwon sabin ruthlessly abandoning her dear friends from tongyeong. her friends who has been there for her for so many years, whom she used to have breakfast with before being late for school, whom she used to hang out with after class when her father was too busy with work, whom she used to be cherished by. leaving tongyeong without looking back was easier said than done. admittedly, she missed her old friends. she missed eunbyul, she missed raon, junghee and muyeol. well, part of her missed eunho as a friend. her only connection with tongyeong was her father and dohwan, but these weren't enough. but how could she reconnect with them when she was the one who gave up on them first?

she has briefly talked about the problem about tgx with dohwan and he offered to help but she refused. he needs to focus on his career and she couldn't risk having him being sidetracked as the strongest player of the team. it occured to him that he could take over tgx if sabin insists on being a stage designer, but he is too young to retire. it would be a waste of his talents and potential. somewhere deep down, she has always been told as the princess raised in a honey jar. "kwon sabin's born a princess, what kind of worries and concerns could she possibly have?" "her only problem is being too rich and too happy living off her dad!" but what else could she say? when she herself agrees to these statements herself. she has always been the fortunate one, and every so often she starts judging herself for exaggerating the problems she thinks she is facing. no one understands her struggles of taking over her father's successful company, just like no one understood her decision to breakup with the perfect cha eunho years ago. was it her fault to have a perfect life? does she not have any rights to complain about her life? she doesn't know anymore. other than dohwan, sabin wasn't sure who else to talk to who could really empathise with her given her situation. even if she reached out, she doesn't think there will be a definite way out for the problem. and again, if she doesn't talk about the problems, there won't be any problems.

dohwan and sabin first met when he was recruited as a trainee by her father. esport has been exisiting for awhile in korea back then but it wasn't that common in tongyeong. so when sabin was a bunch of high school kids gathering in kwon jihoon's company playing games, she was puzzled. but they never really got the chance to get close with each other, he was only known as the good-looking one among the trainees in tgx.

dohwan and sabin really became friends when they attended the same high school and got into the same classes. since dohwan debuted as a professional gamer, it was common for him to be absence from school. and kwon jihoon would ask sabin to help dohwan a bit at school when he couldn't catch up with their classmates. so they began to hang out after school to study together when dohwan didn't have trainings. sometimes eunho and her other friends would join them since dohwan became quite well-known among the neighbourhood being one of the rising star in the esport industry. dohwan never really "joined" the squad since he was either training at the club or catching up with schoolwork, but sabin's friends always welcomed him to join their gatherings since some of them went to the same high school as them. they liked to hang out at dohwan parents' restaurant.

over the years, sabin got closer to dohwan as they spent more time together. and sabin sometimes used dohwan as an excuse not to meet eunho when she felt exhausted dealing with him. and one day, sabin just found herself looking for dohwan instead of eunho when both of them were in the same room, studying. that was when she realised she might have mentally betrayed eunho for falling for another person. she couldn't tell when exactly did she start having a crush on dohwan, but it just happened and it felt right. still, she kept this a secret until she officially broke up with eunho after graduation.

dohwan met sabin as cha eunho's girlfriend. he knew sabin was cute, but she was also occupied by someone else. so even though his eyes always land on sabin ultimately, he kept his distance and remained her friend. and it was hard not to fall for sabin even more as they spent so much time together, with or without other people. trainings and gaming were ways for him to distract himself. sabin never told him about her problems with eunho so when she went to him after the breakup, he was shocked and shamefully delighted.

kim dohwan was the one small part of tongyeong she couldn't escape. for one, he was working for her father. for another, she likes him. a few months after both of them moved to seoul, sabin finally confessed and they got together. it was natural. he thought she needed more time to get over eunho but he didn't know she has got over him way earlier than he knew. everyone in tgx knew about their relationship, even sabin's father. but they wanted to keep it a secret, from his fans, from the public, and more importantly, from their friends back in tongyeong. they were not ready. and they are not sure if their friends were ready. if he was ready.

dohwan spoils sabin even more than her father does. whenever he has a dayoff, he would accompany sabin to her classes in university or plan a date for them to take a break. it's not hard for them to spend time together since sabin can enter tgx whenever she desires. during the time when dohwan has intensive trainings, she would find a couch and work on her assignment on her ipad or her macbook. though they are of the same age, dohwan is always taking care of sabin, even before they became a couple. dohwan tries to be more attentive to sabin to compensate him not being in seoul during matches and competitions. but they would always try to work things out. sabin would team up with him on pubg or play horror games together after competitions so that they could talk for awhile.

sabin has learnt a lesson from her previous failed relationship that she needs to talk about the problems with her partner. so dohwan and sabin always try to be honest with each other and reconcile on the same day they had the argument. sabin hates sleeping knowing they still hold a grudge against each other. they have built a strong connection with each other after being friends all these years and they rely on each other a lot. sabin tries to attend every competition dohwan participates in seoul, and watches livestream when he travels outside seoul for international matches.

ending. they would still remain together as i don't see much development in their relationship during the trip to tongyeong except that dohwan would be there for sabin to really accept the past and reconcile with eunho. one change could be that sabin finally reveals her relationship with dohwan to her old friends in tongyeong as they reunite. some of them might be surprised, and some of them would find themselves accepting this better than they expect. of course, they would start doubting themselves for dubbing sabin and eunho as the power couple when they're clearly better with their respective plus one now.

are you ready to return to tongyeong? why or why not?

"no," she muttered under her breath and sighed, "there is someone that i'm not ready to face, since i kind of...owe him. i ended my relationship with him badly, and i don't want our tension affect the other members of the group. especially it's junghee's funeral." the fact that dohwan is going back to tongyeong with her only worsens the situation. she felt like a betraying woman forced to see her ex-partner. it is bad, really bad. and somewhere deep down in her heart, sabin would think if she didn't go back to tongyeong, she wouldn't have to face junghee's death as well.

did you keep in contact with any of your friends in the group? if yes, who did you keep in contact with? if no, why didn't you keep in contact with your friends?

"well, i still have their sns...so does that count as keeping in contact?" she asked as her eyes looked down, "when i left tongyeong, i kind of wanted to just put everything happened there behind me. and my friends were a big part of the time i spent in tongyeong so, i didn't want to face them." i'm sorry, i really am.

what were you doing when you received the news that junghee passed?

sabin sighed heavily, "i was...in my father's office, going over the papers when raon called me and told me the news."

is there anything you wish you would have told junghee before she died?

"i would want to tell her how happy i am for her that she was able to pursue her lifelong dream, and that she brought so much happiness into my life by being my friend. i just...want to thank her deeply."

what is your favorite memory with junghee?

sabin thought for awhile as she recollected the part of memories she never really revisited after graduation. "i remember there was one time when she suggested sneaking into the cinema since we didn't have enough money in our wallets. we succeeded and it was really fun. i guess junghee was the only one in the group who would do this with me."

what would you say is your way of coping with stressful and emotional situations?

"you picked the wrong person to ask this question," she smiled weakly, "i can't face problems and stress, i'm just...incapable of properly dealing with stressful and emotional situations - at least not until the very last moment. in the past, my father was always there handling the consequences of my actions, so i really, can't give you a definite answer on this."

is there anything you'd like to tell your friends?

"i would want to apologise for not holding onto our friendship as we separated after high school. seeing junghee (passing away), i really felt the importance of keeping in touch with friends." and i want to try to make amends with eunho and say that i'm sorry, she said to herself.

if you were asked to stay a few more days, maybe even a week for your friends, would you be willing to stay?

she tapped on the screen of her phone and checked the date. "if there's anyone who really need my help, i could extend my stay here, i guess i could work away from my office." i want to make it up to them.

The little princess of the group, who had the perfect boyfriend, who had the most precious friends. but maybe it was not that perfect for her. finally she escaped. from everything that they thought was best for her. and eventually, she lost something invaluable as well. was she one of the reasons that the squad couldn't remain tight after graduation? her father's hospialisation was a wakeup call for kwon sabin. this is life. life can't go all fluffy and sweet in sabin's own way. she can't always keep everything under her control. not accidents, not people's feelings. kwon sabin may have finally realised that things still exist and happen even when she tries not to face the reality. like the fact that she abandoned eunho without telling why; like the fact that she never gained closure with tongyeong which led to the every so often late night guilt and longing for her childhood friends; like the fact that she isn't a fit decision-maker of her father's company; like the fact that she chose to leave junghee, and gave up the chance of reconnecting with her forever.
