PERSONALITY

the thing is, minkyung never realised how she is purely too much of a people pleaser when she is being all altruistic due to her insecurities. being overshadowed by her sister for all her life, minkyung tends to please people without realising her own real motives to "survive" around her family. scared to make mistakes and disappoint her parents, minkyung eventually got used to have people around her to make decisions for her and telling her what to do so that she wouldn't have to take up too much responsibilities even if she messed things up. on top of that, her sister's overprotection only further crafted her into a pushover who does not even dare to have her own opinions sometimes. deep down, minkyung has the idea that she would never achieve success - at least, not on par with her sister - deeply ingrained in her mind.

BACKGROUND
no minkyung comes from an upper class family which is related to the hwang-ok e-commerce group and provides everything minkyung needs and wants. being the younger child, minkyung's overachieving and overprotective sister took up a lot of responsibilities that minkyung was supposed to bear, which allowed her to lead a relatively carefree life. growing up, she clearly understood the gap and difference between minah and herself, so did her parents. they've stopped expecting anything from minkyung a long time ago and just asked her to behave well in front of relatives and uphold a decent image around the high society.
minkyung was granted freedom of doing and pursuing pretty much anything she desires to a large extent, as long as she does not do things that would harm the reputation of the no family. when she turned sixteen, minkyung became a fangirl and a fansite manager of a rookie idol, and began living a double life. instead of shopping for luxury goods, minkyung dedicated most of her allowance on concert tickets, transport and photography equipments. her family was aware of her behaviours of following idols' schedules, but didn't know that she spent almost all her leisure time doing so instead of hanging out with her classmates. it was difficult for minkyung to balance school work, tutorial classes and being a fangirl taking hd photos of her idol with high-quality dslr cameras with telephoto lens at the same time. on top of everything, she wouldn't want her parents to discover her another identity as a fangirl that they deemed inappropriate.
if it wasn't for her parents to pull a few strings at the admissions office, minkyung probably wouldn't have been able to enter yonsei with grades slightly above the average. in addition, she has been attending the same church as some yonsei faculty seniors who wrote her really nice referrals. the major she picked was really the only major she was interested in, because she has built prior knowledge in designing and editing through managing her fansite. but attending university only meant minkyung could devote more time on managing her dedicated fansite for han sunwoo. by the time she was a university freshmen, minkyung has already managed to release two photobooks and several fan products for extra cash.
to conclude, minkyung has been privileged throughout her entire life. she has wealthy parents who provided her with sufficient financial support, and her sister who worked hard at the family enterprise. minkyung's attitude of living in the moment didn't really help her mapping out her future. and then it came her idol retiring from the show business.

DAILY LIFE, ROUTINE!
it is not uncommon to see minkyung cramming for her projects and studies at the studio dedicated to design students. final year is tough for university students, especially for her who has a fansite to manage on top of everything. minkyung tries to attend all her classes to maintain good grades as per her parents' minimum requirements, plus attendance counts towards the final grades; and dedicates almost all her free time following her idol sunwoo's public schedules. when sunwoo's group is not active or promoting, minkyung would appear more frequently across different parties because well, she's more of the live in the moment type of person.
unlike other students not in her course, she was allowed to complete a capstone project instead of a dissertation, which made it slightly easier for her to survive through the year end. her project is developing virtual assistants for better experience at art and photography exhibitions.

han sunwoo made his debut as the main dancer of aurora back in 2014. minkyung has been following him since his early debut era as a rookie, and witnessed all the ups and downs the group went through to make it to one of the most well-known boygroup among the nation. unable to avoid the seven-year curse like many other groups, aurora was announced a disbandment in 2021. sunwoo himself made a statement that he would retire from the entertainment industry for a private reason. one prominent factor that caused minkyung to be so loyal to him is because he always tries to present his fans with the best stage. he could always bring her positive vibes and the motivation to work harder in real life. additionally, as one of the most famous fansites of sunwoo, sunwoo himself could actually recognise minkyung as ilgi-nim personally and would always pose for her camera due to how frequent she showed up at fanmeetings. he will always remain a fond memory of her teenagehood.

no minkyung never needed to reflect on her own life or plan for the future, because her family got that all covered. perhaps it was due to her incompetence, her parents never expected her to work as hard as her sister to guarantee their family's influence on hwang-ok. and even when she finally came to realise that she lacks life experience unlike her peers who have a roadmap, or at least a direction of what to do after graduation (heck, those business students even hired career coaches), it seemed too late for no minkyung. she has never properly explored a real life, for she was privileged enough to stay in her own minkyung-land like a delicate little flower.
having been a fangirl of han sunwoo and managed a famous fansite for seven years, no minkyung spent most of her time following the schedules of sunwoo and taking photos for other fans without having much of a life outside kpop. as she approached her final year, the breaking news of sunwoo leaving the entertainment industry hit. suddenly, minkyung felt lost. it was a reality check and a turning point for her as she realised that she didn't know anything except managing a fansite. she has been depending on her sister too much, and is about to graduate without any ideas of what to do afterwards. minkyung is not ashamed of being a fangirl, but she wouldn't want her behaviours taint the family's reputation. unlike her overachieving sister, she barely had any accomplishments in life. perhaps this year, it would be minkyung's awakening journey to explore herself in the world outside kpop and develop a career in something that she is genuinely passionate about and has sharpened her skills over the years: photography.

hello, this is no minkyung, i'm twenty four years old and a final year design student of yonsei university.

off the top of my head, my current goal is to, well, find a real goal in life. i mean, everyone seems so determined and assured about what they are going to do after graduation, yet here i am, not even knowing what i'm capable of to do for a living. she sighs. and you see, that's because i firmly live by the belief of living in the moment instead of worrying and planning for the future because life is just so unpredictable. i guess it's not a fairly appropriate principle to live by at this age.

ah... being used to be a supporting character around those who shines and overachieves, minkyung never really thought about making an impression on people. she is mellow, soft, and more often than not, people overlook her. i've never really thought about that, but i'd like to be remembered like... like a really beautiful sunset, that is a mix of pink and orange - you know, the kind that you could stare at it the whole day and heals you after a long day of work? she giggles and is slightly entertained by her own imageries in an adorable way.

CURRENT STATUS acquaintances.
THE STORY
i. leather jackets, ripped jeans and spotlight — autumn.
it wasn't difficult to fall in love with ian from living proof, especially if you had seen him on stage. but it was ian, not cha yiahn.
"have we - have we met before? you look familiar, with the cameras." yiahn approached minkyung one breezy afternoon at get well soon coffee. "no, no, no," minkyung looked at harang's suspicious look, "no!" she hissed under her breath, "it's not him." harang looked at minkyung, amused, "i didn't even say anything."
cha yiahn had never felt so rejected in his life.
truth was, no minkyung did go to a few of yiahn's concerts and live shows when her friend, who was yiahn's fangirl, couldn't attend and take photos for her fansite dedicated to yiahn. cha yiahn, or ian, was never a stranger to minkyung. she liked his music, and not to mention his stage charisma.
no one could deny ian's charm once he was on the stage, under the spotlight with his pair of ripped jeans.
the moment they officially met would be at get well soon coffee, again, when minkyung was waiting for minah to pick her up from the campus. minah had worked with yiahn and his band previously, so she recognised him right away after buying herself an iced americano with minkyung next to her. that was when yiahn and minkyung were officially introduced to each other.
ii. cinnamon, nutmeg and christmas specials — winter.
weirdly, minkyung and yiahn just began running into each other more and more frequently after they were introduced at gws coffee. sometimes minkyung would be working on her coursework at gws coffee when the studio got a bit too crowded, when she saw yiahn and he would buy her a drink and a pastry before leaving.
turns out, it wasn't that hard to be attracted by cha yiahn on top of having a fan crush for ian from living proof. cha yiahn was a bit different off stage, but that was probably because minkyung got to know him a bit more deeper. he was supportive to friends, and would actually listen to her naive thoughts. yiahn always complimented her artwork and he was one of the few people around her who was curious about the meaning behind her art pieces. however, the presence of the vocalist and guitarist of living proof was too strong that minkyung concluded all those butterflies in her stomach as simply a fangirl's excitement when meeting the celebrity. somehow in minkyung's perspective, yiahn has changed from that person who's always in leather jackets to the person who brings you the christmas special beverage that gives you both warmth and the tingling feelings.
unknowingly, cha yiahn has become no minkyung's special someone that she would blush whenever being mentioned. the assurance he gave her and how he slowly made her a more confident person all contributed to the overflowing feelings she had after every meeting with yiahn.
iii. cherry blossom, jane austen, wood musk perfume — spring.
no one around minkyung was really surprised when she offered to take yiahn's mother around seoul's art galleries, except for yiahn, maybe. minkyung has always been a helpful and passionate person, despite unable to really communicate with yiahn's mother, she would still be glad to offer help as a local born and raised in seoul. in addition, they could always text and draw to interact. yiahn's mother was also the one who inspired minkyung to make her capstone project more inclusive and accessible to the disadvantaged, like the impaired community.
cherry blossom falls at five centimeters per second. minkyung fell for yiahn faster than that. yiahn really helped her in figuring out her future after graduation, and he never judged her for being a fangirl, dedicating her previous few years to one single person's career. although occasionally when he looked back, he did feel a bit jealous of han sunwoo who ranked so high in minkyung's heart.
it was really natural for the two to become official. minkyung remembered yiahn was wearing this woody and musky cologne, when he finally confessed and asked her to become his girlfriend.

the two of them acted more or less the same before and after dating. minkyung might be more comfortable doing aegyo around yiahn, but really, nothing changed much. some of their friends believed that it was because they were never purely friends from the very beginning - there has always been this sense of ambiguity and romance lingering between them. to such, they never denied.
+ minkyung was initially a bit nervous around yiahn and yiahn's bandmates for their celebrity presence, but she soon warmed up to them under yiahn's introduction.
+ yiahn's music has become a big part of minkyung's inspiration in creating art and similarly, minkyung has become yiahn's muse.

+ minkyung didn't tell anyone on her side about her relationship with yiahn, mostly because she's afraid that her parents would find out and they might think this will ruin the family's reputation. though, towards the end, with the help of harang and minah, minkyung would have the courage to confront her parents about her relationship.

cha yiahn is the type of person minkyung wants to become. such charisma, such confidence, and knowing what he loves. he was like a prince charming marching out from a fairytale, until she became one of the few who were able to peek behind his perfect facade and learn about his weaknesses. yet this only made her fall harder for him. despite having his own problems and adversities, yiahn has become minkyung's life mentor with a few years of life experience ahead of her. even though at times yiahn could be a bit rusty in expressing himself not through music, minkyung could always warm him up with her passion and genuineness. he made her understand that she could shine in her own spotlight too, just like everyone else. no minkyung does not have to stand in the dark anymore.
