appearance yerim has always been told she was pretty since a young age and, although she's learned to accept compliments, she thinks she isn't all that. she has a pretty average height and, although underweight, her body proportions are above average. she has a more rounded face which brings up comments of her cute demeanor, but she also has a sharp chin. yerim always says her large features match well with her rounded face, and many around her agree. of course, behind all the makeup, she has acne and acne scars that give her imperfections. she's not someone to hide that fact about her, but rather she's open about how she manages her appearance and health. her hair, at the moment, is dyed dark brown and, though naturally straight, she prefers to style it with light waves and typically tucked behind one ear.

style for the most part, yerim either dresses like an heiress of a high-end company or your local university student. she likes wearing more loose-fitting clothes and oversized pieces, but, she's not someone to turn down shirts and bottoms that show off her proportions well. basically, yerim goes for streetwear and articles that suit her own personal taste. you wouldn't see her wearing bright colors, and she usually keeps designs on shirts and sweaters to a minimum. yerim also has her ears pierced (both ears have two lobe piercings and two helix piercings), so you'll never see her without one piercing at the least on both ears. in addition, she's not opposed to wearing other pieces of jewelry like necklaces, rings and bracelets, especially if they hold sentimental value or were given as presents.

yerim is someone who can handle situations maturely and professionally. whether it's the way she presents herself on stage to millions of people or to her small circle of loved ones, piecing back together friendships and relationships as a mediator, she's smart to understand right from wrong, the do's and dont's, that shape people. yerim's quick to adapt to her surroundings and situations, but, most importantly, she wants others to be happy and hates to be left with unsolved problems. she believes that leaving things to solve themselves is no way to properly come to terms with things, so she's always helping to patch things together for the better of, not just herself, but her team as a whole.

yerim's rather blunt, and she doesn't realize she's potentially hurting someone's feelings with it. her words are affective, but she just thinks she's being honest in the things she says, constantly telling people to not take it to heart. her dullness exudes when she's working, stating what works well and giving criticism where it's due. but, of course, she just wants to see and give the best results. yerim aims towards a sort of perfection she craves and, if things don't fit the image in her head, she'll make sure others know.

naturally, yerim's introverted and follows a more "show over tell" sort of lifestyle, finding it easier to showcase her talents and input over talking away through a lesson. hence why she's a bit scatterbrained as she has a hard time explaining things out compared to people who are natural leaders. yerim, undoubtedly, is a follower and only vows to take charge when it's absolutely necessary to.

but, even so, yerim's the sort of person you'd like to have around as she becomes more open and outgoing once you get to know and understand her. she's naturally positive about life, though her jokes can be rather crude and self-deprecating, and she brings life to the party, even when she's working. yerim tends to get bored, so she seeks entertainment through her interactions with those around her. be it acting goofy, telling stories or even sarcasm, she knows how to have a good time.

she also  can match the mood, in hopes that it makes others feel comfortable around her and others. and, as much as she doesn't want to admit, she's easily moved by sensitive emotions and so-called "sappy" stories and events. because she can match well in any given situation, the emotions quickly fill her and she can't help but become completely in tune to her feelings.

it's evident that yerim was raised to understand and know social manners. naturally, she's polite and respectful, especially towards those older than her and strangers she comes across. she's also naturally in-tune to her surroundings, noting even the smallest of details in people. she's capable of understanding others through how they portray themselves, thinking that even the smallest of things need to be noticed. because of this, she's someone people would 100% rant and vent their feelings towards.

but, yerim has difficulty telling and showing her feelings towards others, and she's undoubtedly awkward when it comes to her own emotions. she tends to lock up her feelings, not wanting to bother others unless she fully trusts you with her problems, simply because she doesn't know how to go about telling them and even dealing with it. when it comes to her own emotions, she'll try to play it off cooly or in her usual blunt demeanor. but, when she does, it's difficult to tell whether she's being harsh or hurtful towards others. however, when she realizes her wrongdoings and how her words come across to others, she'll apologize and admit her wrongs (in, of course, a chic way). yet, she tries to think two steps ahead of herself so her words don't sound hurtful through cushioning the blow.

i remember being this overly-intelligent, overly-cocky kid. i thought the world revolved around me and only me. kids on the playground would follow me and wanting to share snacks together. of course, i did, but the more i look back on it, the more i realize that they were the reason i started to push my brother to the side more. they were the reason i was so greedy for my parents love and attention whenever they'd give it to my brother. kids like them, i realized, were the cause of my need to be in the spotlight. oddly enough, i want to thank them for making me crave this spotlight, this attention. because i realized my passions and interests so early on in life. but, again, maybe some middle fingers would suffice as well, for tarnishing some of my loved relationships that were difficult to mend.

for much of my childhood, i just remember taking interest in the things my brother did and wanted. after all, he was my older brother, the one i looked up to and admired beside our parents. everything he did was so amazing and flawless. from the creative art projects he'd bring home to the recipes he'd master by just looking at it once, i was, undoubtedly, his number one fan and follower. maybe he found it bothersome or even stupid that a measly six year old who didn't fully understand right from wrong and just agreed to do everything, but he allowed for me to stand beside him and follow in his every step. wan yohan, is his name, but i fondly called him hannie. he called me yemi, thinking it was cute, and i just agreed. we've kept this special bond since and i've always loved him for the sibling he is and always will be to me. because, thanks to him, i was able to find the one thing i loved to do and am passionate about.

i began to look at my passions in a different light. my interests became more art-related and, oddly enough, matched my brother's. of course it did. everyone said that i was now a carbon-copy of my brother, and i didn't see that as something terrible. my brother was talented. smart. intuitive. he knew right from wrong. me? i was just this carefree child whose only interest was ruling the playground and being the person everyone shared snacks with. but, when i became evidently closer and so reliant on my brother to entertain and comfort me, i started to develop a sense of musicality and calmness i never thought i'd become. just as music was a solace for him, it became a solace for me, too. but he, too, became my safe haven. and i'm so thankful for you, hannie.

yohan.. he was struggling. he developed something that, not only damaged him, but also damaged me. mom and dad were quick to put blame on him and our shared passions for how i've become. they pulled me away from the things i cherished and loved the most, but i knew they were doing it as a way to keep me on the ground, to keep me from turning into my brother. but what if i wanted to be like him? what if i wanted to follow his every step? towards the end of my childhood days, i've come to find out that my parents weren't doing this for the better of me, but for the better of them. they blamed music for being the cause of my brother's downfall and learning disability. who were they to think that? the thing i loved and wanted to strive for suddenly felt like a blur, but i was still committed to pursue it. i wanted to prove you were right, hannie.

yohan was entering college and, unknowingly, he started to seek out entertainment companies to pursue his dream of being a singer-songwriter. he knew that was difficult to do, especially with the rise of idols being most prevalent and everyone's music dream, but he still strived for it. i started to think about my own future, but the only thing that came to mind was singing and singing alone. i knew that mom and dad wouldn't like it, but that's what i wanted. so, towards the end of my middle school years, i told my parents of my wants and needs. i shared to them my reasons and my works that i've been stashing away with my brother's music sheets. of course, they didn't like it nor were they supportive in the beginning. but, when my brother came up to me, asking if i wanted to post covers on youtube with him, i immediately said yes. at first, it was going to be just him archiving his works on a public platform, in hopes of being discovered and for auditioning purposes; but, hearing how angered our parents were, you allowed me to join. and, since then, we've become.. popular? though our definition of "popular" was nowhere near millions of views or thousands of subscribers. but i remember our parents being proud of us for coming back together, smiling and laughing; and, i could've sworn, mom and dad were happy, too.

i entered into an arts school back in busan: busan arts high school. although it was stressful i somehow managed to keep my grades up and did fairly well? or at least that's what i've been constantly told. i was always praised for my singing, and after people found my joint youtube channel with yohan, i gained a bit more exposure. my five year old self would've loved the popularity i gained and how far i've come since, but my sixteen year old self.. felt pressured and lonelier than anticipated. whoever said popularity brought people was completely wrong. the more exposure i gained, the more people just befriended me because i had a status as "that popular youtube singer". still, popular wasn't the word i'd be using, but that's how others perceived me as. i felt lonely with my status, and i hated everything about it.

as high school drained on, i can remember my family falling apart at the seams. yohan did the unexpected and that only pushed my parents off the edge even more than before. he dropped out of college in his second year, and our parents were furious. it brought me back to (not even) a year ago when he told our parents he pulled himself out of a fairly well-established company because of his "own decisions". hannie, you should've worded it differently... the pain and money they spent on his journey towards stardom was, in their eyes, wasted. but he told them he'd make it someday, so they didn't say another word. but, hannie.. you quit halfway. the look on their faces, when he said he dropped out, was full of disgust and anger. that's when i was brought into this messy equation. me, a then-seventeen year old who still had a year left in an arts school with above-average grades and rather exceptional talent, was told to quit while i was ahead. but i was so adament on finishing, i was so adament on striving for the same dream as my brother. but, of course, my parents returned to their horrid thoughts on music careers, yet they allowed for me to finish my education in busan arts as long as i pursued something other than music. but my heart didn't want to listen.

i remember just graduating and focusing more on the youtube channel, sporadically posting covers and performances that i did throughout the year, due to wanting to focus on the csat throughout the summer. mother and father were still adament on me going into a career that wasn't music related, so i had to focus much of my time during the summer holiday towards studying in hopes of going into literature or journalism. however, whilst going through useless emails in my shared email with my brother, a specific email caught my eye: Big Hit Entertainment. at the time, i vaguely knew about bighit, understanding that bts was under that company at the time. at first, i thought it was another useless spam email and almost opted on trashing it, but i opened it in the end. that's when i realized that my happiness meant more than my mother and father's. what i wanted shouldn't be determined on what others think is good for me. and, so, i accepted the email. i accepted in auditioning behind my parents's backs.

my parents weren't completely on board after hearing i went to seoul and auditioned, got accepted and was immediately packing to leave all in a single week. they hated it. they probably hated me, too. i remember our fight and me saying "i wish you'd just let me do my own thing" being the last thing i said to my mother and father before leaving with my few belongings i took with me. i hate myself for how i ended things and, ever since, the pit of my stomach churns at the mention of "parents" or even "family". sometimes i feel like a disgrace, something my parents didn't want me to become. but here i am. doing something against their wishes and desires in a child. i'm scared to face them. i'm scared that they'll pull me away again, forcing me to do something i didn't want. but this dream of mine that i've had since a young age is what i want out of life. i want to prove my parents wrong and i want to fulfill my brother's broken dream we both shared. is that so hard to hope for?

yerim was born in busan on august 15, 1998 to yoon minyoung and wan youngbin. she has an older brother named wan yohan who, at the time of her birth, was three years old. growing up, she was always seeking attention from other kids and adults, especially her parents. however, as she started to get closer with yohan, she started to care a little more with those around her, learning early on that the world doesn't always revolve around her. she started to hang around her brother more, noting him as both her best friend and role model. alongside yohan, they both developed a love for music and instruments together, visiting music shops and listening to music at home together. yohan was the first to show her how music was his own solace and, of course, yerim thought the same way. her brother was the first to tell their parents that he wanted to pursue music and, not knowing the trouble it could cause and thinking he wasn't serious, their parents encouraged them to follow his dream. yerim quickly followed suit. later into her childhood, her brother was diagnosed with adhd, which heavily affected his studies and patience. yohan started to focus a lot more on music to calm himself and relieve stress, but their parents saw it in a bad light, thinking yohan would never live up to be a studious child they wanted. in fear yerim would be the same, yerim was pulled away from music to study.

when she became a teenager, she told her parents of her wishes to become a singer. of course, they were hesitant due to how it affected her brother, but after seeing how passionate she was and looking back on how music connected their children, they had a change of heart and allowed her to enroll into an arts school. at busan arts high, yerim pushed herself to prove her parents wrong about her life decision. her and yohan opened a youtube channel for fun and, of course, bragged to their parents when videos exceeded 100 views. as time progressed, their videos started to get more popular, and their parents were glad their children were happy. her brother entered college, pursuing a career in music, whilst making the drastic decision of auditioning for an entertainment company. their parents had no choice but to agree. after all, this was what brought smiles to their children's faces. later into yerim's teenage years, yohan dropped out of college and left the company. hearing this, their parents were furious and upset, and tried to push yerim towards a different career, thinking music just brings defeats and tears rather than happiness. but when yerim was called to audition for bighit, she went on her own to seoul with her brother, audition and found herself becoming a trainee. her parents were upset she went behind their back to do something they didn't want her to pursue anymore, which caused yerim to talk to her parents less after a fight hours before she left to seoul for good. since her entry, she's only talked to her parents a handful of times and spent holidays with a close friend's family over her own.

now awaiting her debut, she's still scared to talk to her parents. she uses her brother as a link, keeping the closest contact with him out of everyone in busan. because she's kilometers away, she doesn't visit and gets homesick, especially when other trainees talk about going home for the holidays or weekends. she wishes she had a better relationship with her parents, but she put this idea in her head that her parents hate her for pursuing music.

✽ she watched the shows friends and how i met your mother to learn english. lately, she hasn't be watching a lot of american shows, but she watches reruns of those two shows from time to time.

✽ she attended busan high school of arts for her whole high school career. there, she graduated tenth of her whole class and was part of the top five (placed third) students who focused on vocals. for much of the performances required to do, she either went solo or did a duet with a classmate of hers.

✽ she's currently a second year student attending hanyang cyber university as a music major, specifically for music composition and voice. originally, she wasn't going to further her education, but she ultimately ended up doing so.

as mentioned, and will continue to be mentioned, yerim frequently posted covers on youtube, which is where much of her predebut fame came from. as a trainee, this was something that was always brought up, especially when others would know her stance with already known idols, most specifically, jeongguk. she wouldn't say she hated being a trainee, but she didn't necessarily love it. because of her friendship with jeongguk, many were quick to point fingers, saying she wouldn't have gotten in without jeongguk stumbling across her videos or she got in for visual appeal. of course, parts of their made-up stories were true, but she wasn't accepted out of pity or for her face.

when she started getting comfortable under bighit, she started to show-off her abilities more and, those who once were either intimidated or disliked her, were quick to change their perception of yerim. she started growing close with a few trainees and began to show her true self bit-by-bit. after a few months of hearing rumors on how and why she got accepted, she finally felt like she belonged and continued to strive to become a singer.

under bighit, yerim was known as a stable and mature vocalist. she was frequently complimented over how she knows her limits and how she can control her voice. undoubtedly, she was the best female vocalist under bighit at the time due to her power, skill and conveying emotions. however, when it came to dancing, that's where she fell short to everyone else. she never took an interest in dancing, nor did she have any intentions to, but being put in a situation of heading down the idol path, she had no choice but to push herself. slowly with the help of trainers and friends, she was able to keep up with others and learned how to stabilize her vocals while singing. yerim might not be an exceptional dancer, but her efforts are there and her talents are shown completely.

of course, we're all a huge and tight family. personally, i'm not too close with a few members in both kng and bts, but i wouldn't say i don't appreciate everyone's company. besides, they all mentored each of us and so we grew to enjoy and get used to their presence. plus, a lot of us have similar personalities and interests, so it wasn't hard to bond when we all first met!

i'd say jeongguk. it's not because he's my mentor, but he was the one who showed me the ropes when i became a trainee and was— not trying to be emotional or anything— my first friend at bighit and, admittedly, my best friend in bighit. sure, he might be crazy sometimes, but he's like my rock and i appreciate his genuine care towards me. plus, we have karaoke sessions in the recording studio sometimes, and that makes him fun to be around!

WHO ARE YOU CLOSEST TO IN KNG?

again, not because he's my mentor, but i'd say seunghwa- i mean sean; yeah, sean! like jeongguk, sean's always been there when i needed someone to talk to. although he's the complete opposite of me when it comes to personality, we bonded over common interests, so it was easy to get to know him. we sometimes even have these deep talks late at night so i can be at ease with the world, which is something you wouldn't expect from him. so, yeah, sean's like my second best friend in bighit, but i'm not trying to raise his ego, so.. he's a good friend.

COULD YOU SHOW US YOUR CHARMING POINT?

i always say my charming point is my voice, but i'm actually going to say it's my cheeks. yerim proceeds to pinch her right cheek, pulling it outwards, showing a fair amount of skin being pulled, before patting it back down with a rather unexpectedly cute grin. they're more on the chubbier side, and it's always been like that since i could remember. people say it brings out my cuter side and i've been told not to get rid of them. so, yeah; i'd say, next to my voice, it's my cheeks!
