My favorite K-songs of 2015

Hello babies ♥ ♥ ♥

I realize I’m a bit l late to do this, since January is almost over.

But I want to, so I will, mostly for myself.

I already posted my favorite MVs over here. But this list will feature my 10 most played songs of the year, regardless of whether they have an MV or not.

Before we start there should be some clarifications.

The groups that I like, I like a lot. So in a normal year, 2PM is like 30-40% of everything I play, and my next 3-4 favorite band count for something similar, so well, my top list is always dominated by the same bands.

So here I will only post 1 song per band (but also for the solo acts), regardless if the group had more than one song on my most played list.

Oh, and I should probably mention that I‘m old and tired, and often sick... So although I like upbeat songs now and then, they are usually not the ones I play the most... so this list is not a good basis for a party playlist.

Also, like usually, I haven‘t listened to *all* the K-pop songs that came 2015... And in fact, especially at the beginning of the year, I listened to a lot less music than I usually do, because I was recovering from 2014, which was not my year, musically speaking. So of course there are lots of good songs that came out that are not on this list, either because I didn‘t hear them, or simply because they are a little bit lower on my list.

But here we go.

(Warning: A lot of fangirling ahead)

1.  2PM – Red

As soon as I saw the tracklist for the new 2PM album, No. 5, I was convinced that Nobody Else would become my favorite song, because it was written by Junho and he is my favorite songwriter within 2PM (followed by Taecyeon).

And when I heard it, I became even more convinced, because Nobody Else is AWESOME, and in fact my 3rd most played K-pop songs of the year.

(If include Japanese releases, otherwise it‘s in second place.)

Then, a few weeks, or even months later (because I save my 2PM songs like a squirrel preparing for winter), I played Red and just wow... I love this song so damn much it‘s not even funny. I haven‘t loved a K-pop song so much in a very long while, probably not since 2PM‘s Beautiful Day, which is now 2 years old, and not even in Korean.

But yeah, Red is absolute perfection, and I love every single second about it, the song and how they sing it. Everything is just so friggin great, and I love this song so much.

Favorite part: Even though I love everything about this song, my favorite part is actually with Junho, the part where he says “We could start a fire.” Honestly this is very rare for me. Not that I don’t usually love Junho’s parts, there is just so much competition. I love Chansung’s and Wooyoung’s voices so much, I could explode any minute now, and then we have Minjun, which is just f-in fantastically amazing, and then I have a very special soft spot for Nichkhun’s voice. So yeah, although I love lots of Junho’s parts, they are rarely my absolute favorites, except for in this song, when it definitely definitely is.

2. 2PM Wooyoung I know your shirts

Honestly, I’m still not completely sure what “I know your shirts” is supposed to mean.

But when Wooyoung sings like that, everything inside me melts.

Favorite parts: Wooyoung’s heavenly voice. And even though it’s not my favorite part of this song, I always love to hear Wooyoung rap, since he rarely does and he is my favorite rapper in 2PM (and therefore in the universe, which has more to do with the fact that I’m in love with him, rather than anything else). But yeah, he’s obviously not trained to rap, but he has a natural sense of rhythm, which I love. But on the other hand I love him singing more than I love him rapping, so I’m fine with him not rapping more lol…  Still, it’s fun to hear sometimes.

3. EXO – Beautiful

Yes, I realize I’m late to the hype, but as I already explained in my MV post, I really liked the Call me Baby MV (mostly because Sehun is hot, but also because of other things). So yeah, I have been a very casual EXO fan since debut, and had many songs I liked, but none that I absolutely loved. So, I was always waiting for that one song, the one that would make me fall in love. And it turned out to be this song.

This was not a song that I fell madly in love with the first time I heard it… I just liked it… But then it just somehow fitted every possible mood, and I kept playing for months, again and again, until I was suddenly an EXO fan. So yeah, I know I’m late to the party, but Eventually I joined in… But that’s a bit my style.

Favorite part: All of Baekhyun’s parts. This song made me fall madly in love with his voice.

4. SHINee Jonghyun - Hallelujah

Hmm… I’m not sure how to say this without offending someone (which is not my intention), but honestly, out of everyone in SHINee, Jonghyun is probably my least favorite. So when his solo came out, I was only medium-excited about it. But I tend to forget that when it comes to my favorite bands, usually every member is my favorite.

So yeah, this song swept me completely off my feet. It’s just so…

This song is a religious experience, even if I’m not a believer.

Favorite part: When his voice lowers at the “Hallelujah” part… I’ve listened to this song close to 300 times, but it still gives me goosebumps. Every. Single. Time.

5. SHINee – Odd Eye

As much as I loved the title song, View, I love this one even more.

Honestly, the first time I heard it, I wasn’t too convinced, since this is a bit more rap-heavy than I usually care for. So I was thinking about deleting it from my playlist, but I was working at the time, and wanted to finish the thing I was doing before changing my focus. But then at the end of the song, came an Onew part that gave me goosebumps and turned my stomach upside down (there is a reason why Onew breaks my rule of usually choosing my favorite dancer in a group as a bias). So I just HAD to hear it again, and again, and again and again, to hear that part... And after a couple of listens I was totally and completely in love with every part of the song. And I just think it’s ing fantastic.

Favorite part: That few seconds of Onew at 2:49. And also his part at the end. And all his parts. God, I love this man.

6. 15& Park Jimin

I think I saw this song on some year-end list over the best songs in K-pop 2015, and I can understand why. It’s just so frigging good. And what a talent. What a voice. And she’s not just technically good, but there is so much emotion in her portrayal of this song. This song is heartbreaking, and inspiring. And I wish I could write like this.

Favorite part: The desperation in the song.

7. TVXQ Yunho – Komplikated

The only remotely upbeat song on my list lol.

But I love this song so much, always get me in a good mood. And Yunho is such a great singer, it’s not even funny.

Well, honestly I do think everyone agrees that Yunho was the worst singer out of all TVXQ5…

So many then assume that means he’s a bad singer. But honestly, not all groups have as good of a lead singer as Yunho. So more than anything, it just means that the vocal ability of TVXQ5 was insane.

Vocally, I think they are the best boyband that ever was, and probably ever will be.

Favorite part: I simply love the beat. And I love that Yunho has like, many different voices, or ways of singing in this song, depending on which part it is, so it actually sounds like many different people are singing this song, and I think it comes out great.

8. TVXQ Changmin – Into the water

This song is so beautiful it should be illegal.

Favorite part: The beginning.

9. TVXQ/JYJ Junsu – Flower

A collaboration of one of my favorite singers and one of my favorite rappers.

Of course it’s friggin Amazing.

Favorite part: I donno, the epic-ness of the song I guess. The opera theme, and Tablo is always just Fantastic, and probably my absolute favorite rapper in K-pop.

(if we exclude 2PM, because I can’t judge them fairly because I’m too biased)

10. MC Mong -권태중독 (Feat. 선우정아)

Honestly, as a rule, I’m not really that into anything that’s too rap-heavy. So honestly I didn’t expect to like MC Mong’s comeback. But I did, I really did. The entire album is great, and one of my favorite of the year, and this is my fav song of the album, and I love the singer who collaborates with him in this song.

Favorite part: Chorus, sung by this singer. I just absolutely love it. It’s so bittersweet and wonderful.

Odd Eye is my fave out of the ones you listed, Odd Eye just kills me every time (and it may or may not have something to do with their performance of the song)
