Chapter 15

Breaking the Silence

After many sleepless nights and days spent in his studio working on music, Jinki pushed himself away from his desk with his arms crossed over his chest. It was suddenly so much easier for him to make music than it had been even years before, and though he wanted to ask himself why, he already knew the answer.

Kim Jonghyun.

Just a day after he had visited Jonghyun's home with the younger male, Jinki had locked himself in his studio and started working. It wasn't exactly like before where he shut everyone out so he wouldn't be bothered, nor was it like when he was always around to keep himself distracted, but it was still considerably lonely for the younger men, and especially for Jonghyun.

He would sit outside of the elder's studio on the ground with his back pressed against the wall. He usually didn't stay long, only long enough to hear what the elder was producing, but when the elder started working even into the night, Jonghyun found himself waiting outside for longer periods of time.

One night, Jinki found himself desperately needing a glass of water. He hadn't stepped out of his studio in the last day and he knew the others would be asleep by this time. Guilt filled his chest as he remembered the reason why he had started making music again, and he couldn't believe he was keeping himself away from Jonghyun once more.

When the elder opened the door to the studio and stepped into the hallway, his heart almost leapt out of his throat. There he was, Kim Jonghyun, resting against the wall with his knees to his chest, his head leaned back, and his eyes shut tightly. He had fallen asleep waiting for the elder?

Forgetting that he had only left the studio to get water, Jinki crouched down to give himself a better view of his bodyguard. He wanted to wake the younger so he could go to sleep, but Jonghyun looked so peaceful that he'd only feel more guilty if he did. Instead, he hooked his arms under Jonghyun's knees and around his shoulder and slowly lifted him off the ground.

"You're heavier than you look." Jinki muttered to himself, but he didn't even mind as he brought the younger male into his bedroom. He probably should have taken Jonghyun to his own bedroom, but he wasn't strong enough to carry the male down to the basement. Jonghyun was a heavy sleeper, it seemed, and Jinki was relieved that the male didn't open his eyes, only pulling Jinki's blankets around him once he was on the bed.

"I love you," Jinki muttered once more, and a moment later, he had gently brushed hair out of Jonghyun's face and left the room. He still needed to get that water and finish his music before he could even think of going to sleep.

By the morning, Jinki had successfully created four new songs. He was physically exhausted and his brain didn't want to think up any new tunes at all, but he was proud of the work he had created. When Jonghyun walked into the studio that morning, Jinki was less than surprised. He had left the door slightly ajar and he kind of figured that Jonghyun would come looking for him eventually.

"Is the only way to make you take a break going to be bringing you out on a date?" Jonghyun's tone was amused and when Jinki turned around, Jonghyun was leaning against the doorframe with bedhead and a sleeply look in his eyes.

Without answering, Jinki stood up from his desk with a pair of wireless headphones, playing a song he had written for Jonghyun and Jonghyun alone. He had been debating on showing the male or not, but now that they were together, it made perfect sense to have him listen to it. His hands hadn't retracted even after placing the headphones on Jonghyun, because the look the younger was giving him as he listened to the song was one that had Jinki rooted where he was.

"This... is for me?" Jonghyun spoke like it was completely unexpected for the elder to have dedicated anything to him, and with his cheeks red in emparrassment, Jinki nodded his head.

A moment later, after Jonghyun chuckled and pressed a chaste kiss to the elder's lips, the young male had wrapped his hand around Jinki's and yanked him out of the room. Jinki stumbled after him in confusion, since well, they were both far from being ready to go out, but he couldn't help the chuckles that escaped his lips, because Jonghyun was happy and that's all that mattered to him.

They didn't go out for another date, and Jinki only felt mildly disappointed when he realized Jonghyun was joking about a date. Instead of a date, the two of them found themselves in the living room with two younger men, the only one to be absent being Kibum.

"What's going on?" Jinki couldn't help but ask because the younger two males had boxes scattered all over the living room and there were sly grins on their faces that almost had Jinki retreating to his room.

"It's Kibum hyung's birthday!" Taemin's voice was so excited and held fondness, and it was then that Jinki had realized something. Somehow, and he wasn't sure of how, Taemin had fallen for his bodyguard. It was a weird thing to think about, the fact that the both of them were so fond of their bodyguards, but Jinki knew Kibum made Taemin happy and vice-versa,

"We're going to suprise him!"

When his eyes found the many boxes on the ground, a smile made its way to his lips. So that was the reason Jonghyun had gone looking for him? A part of him was jealous, of course, since Kibum and Jonghyun had once been an item, but he knew that Jonghyun loved him and only him right now.

"We got Woohyun to take him shopping." Minho was proud of himself, it seemed, and Jinki could only shake his head. Woohyun was another singer in the industry, and though they weren't close, Jinki knew Woohyun was someone trustworthy. If Woohyun was the one keeping Kibum distracted, there would be no problems,

"We have all day to set this place up."

He raised his eyebrow towards Jonghyun, taking note of the sheepish grin the younger male had on his face. Jinki didn't protest, though, because Kibum did a lot for the Lee's, and this was the least they could do for him. It wasn't until the sun started to set that everything had been done and set into place. The four of them competed to see who could blow the most balloons, to which Minho received victory, and Minho and Taemin hung streamers all over the walls, seeing how the elder two were the shorter of the bunch.

Jonghyun, after surprising Jinki with a kiss on the cheek, had disappeared out the front door to buy a cake and wine, and left the younger two teasing Jinki. It was strange to be left alone with them, since he and Taemin hadn't been close in a long time, and the drama that had unfolded between himself and Minho, but he enjoyed their company. Taemin was voluntarily spending more time beside the elder Lee, even aiding the elder as he made a dinner for the five of them.

"Minho, have you ever considered moving in with us?" Jinki didn't really acknowledge that he was asking such a question, because well, Minho had his own place to stay, but he was already practically part of the family.

Surprised by the sudden question, both Minho and Taemin stilled and their heads whipped to where Jinki's voice had come from the kitchen. A moment later, ignoring the fact that Jinki could have easily hurt himself or them, the two engulfed him into a hug and left the elder bewildered as he pulled away. After that, well, things seemed to wind down pretty quickly. Minho took on the role of Taemin's unofficial older brother, and spent the afternoon keeping him entertained. When Jonghyun had returned, the younger two had told Jonghyun of the elder's question, since they considered it his way of asking Minho to stay with them, and Jonghyun's reaction was almost similar.

Well, rather than hug the elder and squeal in his ears, Jonghyun had pulled his face down and kissed him, leaving both of the chuckling with the sound of boiling water in the distance. Jinki looked at the wine and the cake Jonghyun had brought home, pleased that Jonghyun had bought what Jinki had imagined. With a grin, he kissed Jonghyun's forehead and shoved him out of the kitchen.

None of them expected Kibum to come home early. Heck, there wasn't even a warning when he did come in. He just threw the door open, walked in with his hands on his hips, and threw a glance over his shoulder at a frightened Woohyun.

"Did you really think you could fool me?"

Despite his anger, however, there were several shopping bags by his feet and when Jinki stepped out of the kitchen to see just how much the young bodyguard had bought, the younger's feminine face was pulled into what seemed to be a smirk.

"Your brother gave me your card and told me to 'knock myself out', so I hope you don't go crazy when you see the bill."

Jinki glanced over at Taemin, and his younger brother gulped visibly, pointing a shaking finger to Jonghyun. It was pretty obvious that it meant Jonghyun gave him the idea, so the elder's eyes narrowed over at Jonghyun. There was that grin on the younger male's face, knowing that Jinki wouldn't be angry with him at all; and he was right. Sighing in resignation, Jinki turned and returned to the kitchen, pulling out enough dishes and glasses for their meal.

Dinner was great. Kibum had forced Woohyun to stay, seeing as he was already there anyway, and a shaken Woohyun nodded. Jinki couldn't help but sympathize with him, considering Kibum's stubborn personality. Kibum considered the shopping spree that Jinki unknowingly gave him as a present, looking over to the others expectantly. With a chuckle, Jonghyun held out a snowglobe. Kibum wasn't too impressed, but accepted it anyway. Minho had bought him a pair of black shoes, since he was rich enough to buy it. Kibum gave Jonghyun a pointed look before taking the present from Minho.

Jinki noticed that Kibum's eyes softened incredibly as he turned to Taemin. What was this... this atmosphere? Taemin had been quiet throughout the dinner, only smiling when someone had talked directly to him and playing with his food. Jinki was curious to see what was going on to the two boys, but Jonghyun had grasped his arm and pulled him off his chair with both Minho and Woohyun following them to the front door.

"I'll take him home," Minho announced softly, and Jinki could hear the distant sound of something falling in the other room. Neither of the four males had turned to investigate it, however, though their lips spoke their assumptions clearly,

"Tell Kibum I wished him a happy birthday."

"Thank you for dinner." Woohyun was a lot less tense than he was when he had come in with Kibum, and Jinki patted his shoulder as he turned and walked out with Minho.

Finally, the two that were left happened to be Jinki and Jonghyun. Jinki didn't need to turn to the younger to know that he was the younger's focus, because he could feel it even from the gaze directed toward his back. Silently, the two of them climbed up the stairs to avoid running in to the two that were now messily making out on the elder's sofar, and chuckled quietly as they entered Jinki's room.

After working so much for the past few days, added up with the day's events, Jinki was exhausted and threw himself right onto his bed without bothering to change. Jonghyun was quick to follow, resting his head against Jinki's shoulder with his arms wrapped protectively around the elder.

"I don't have to worry about the two of them, do I?" Jinki asked quietly, because although he was happy that they were happy, Jinki was still an older brother.

"If you ask me, it's about time that they got together." Jonghyun muttered, lifting his head to look into the elder's eyes.

Unlike the two of them, the younger pair had moved slowly, allowing their feelings to become much more secure when they decided to let each other know. On the other hand, Jinki already felt like Jonghyun was everything to him and so much more, and even started considering searching for rings. The only problem? Well, what was he to Kim Jonghyun?
