활용 1 (Conjugation)--> 현재시제 (Present Tense)

한글 배우기 (Learn Korean)

Before learning the verbs, you'll have to know how to use them. This chapter will basically focus on present tense conjugation.

For non-native English speakers, if you know what conjugation and present tense mean, kudos to you, but some individuals may not have had the privilege to learn English formally so I will be explaining these terms before we continue.

Present tense is right now. Conjugation is how you change a verb to fit a sentence structure in order for it to fit the time frame you are speaking of. For example, if you were to be watching television right now and somebody called and asked what you were doing, you would say, "I'm watching television right now" instead of saying "I watched television right now."

현재시제 (hyun-jae-shi-jeh) means present tense, 현재 meaning present and 시제 meaning tense.

Conjugating verbs into present tense is quite simple.

I'll throw out a few infinitive forms of a word and the conjugated forms.

Infinitive is the verb in a to ------ form. (ie. to walk, to run, to play)

봐 (bwah-- to look) ; 보고있어 (boh-goh-eess-eo-- looking)

가 (gah-- to go) ; 가고있어 (gah-goh-eess-eo-- going)

치워 (chee-weo-- to clean/organize) ; 치우고있어 (chee-oo-goh-eess-eo-- cleaning)

Have you figured out the pattern?

If not, don't fret because I'll explain it.

In a simple word like 가, just add 고있어 to the end--> like 자고있어, 사고있어,하고있어.

If the word is more complex like 봐, take out the ㅏ and then add 고있어.

In a case for verbs that are more than one syllable like 치워, just take out the symbol that is not a ㅗ or ㅜ of the second syllable and add 고있어.

Verbs always end with a ㅏ. That is why there are verbs like 살아 (sahl-ah-- to live) and 날아.

Just ignore the 아 as if it isn't there when you conjugate these kinds of verbs.

If the verb is like 날아 (nahl-ah-- to fly) and only has one vowel but two consonants (as stated above, act as if the 아 is not there), then treat it like a simple verb like 가 and just add 고있어--> 날고있어, 살고있어.

Sprry for the short chapter, but I'll be updating more frequently. Sorry for the hiatus and thanks again.

Bonus word of the day is 곰돌이 인형 (gohm-dohl-ee een-hyeong) which means teddy bear. Why? Just because I like teddy bears. Welp I updated an hour early cuz I missed you guys. Sadly, I have to leave so I can update my other fics. I'll update sometime this week!

Although all of it is confusing and only make my head hurt, I will learn one by one until I ace it since the main problem is I can talk a bit Korean and understand some of it but could not write it at all :-( the only korean word that I know is 카이 and 디으 which is no help at all xD exo-l here~! Hahahaha I will definitely take this as a learning class online. Thank you, btw!

Ok, now that I've got your attention. ^~^;
I have a question regarding this 본. I understand that it's not mentioned in your lessons but I've been seriously searching for the meaning of this character. I don't get it at all... Oh and if you're wondering, I got the character from SHINee's song Like a Fire. I'm trying to learn Korean with songs hehehe. ^~^
