chapter nine
proud, arrogant, and definitely not humble

"Yah, is this funny to you?” Bi An said sternly at her 2 year older junior. They had a staring showdown before the other scoffed without saying anything. The more experienced trainee grew pissed. “Hey, since you are an idol, I suppose you know that it’s your job to train? Stop lazing off!” The 18 year old girl finally looked her in the eye, but with a condescending look.

“To justify myself, I am training. And unlike you, I train well in a short amount of time. As long as I don’t hold back my crew, it’s fine.” She rolled her eyes and muttered under her breath,”Don’t get why I have to follow orders from a younger person. It’s disgusting.” Bi An caught that and glared at her. She decided not to say anything to one-month trainee Kim Myungye. She knew it was pretty weird to listen to someone younger than you. But as a person who usually takes things casually and lightly, she couldn’t help but really hate the way this Myungye girl did things. She took training too lightly and her laziness was getting out of hand. She was so frustrating! She did things sloppily and couldn’t be bothered to correct her dance moves.

She also was the only one complaining everytime they had practice and it was literally her voice that littered the whole dance studio. Dance seongsaeng Jiho was nice enough not to kick her out, giving her the leeway of being a trainee. “It’s starting again, isn’t it?” Johnny pursed his lips in a comical way. “If you know, you can actually do something,” Jaehyun chuckled. He just backed away with an amused smile, “You never ever, ever, step into a girl’s fight. It’s the scariest ever.”

Jiho clapped his hands together, “Good luck everyone! Still one more hour to go and then you can go rest wherever! Just stop using this dancing room as a bed. It’s my camp tonight.” He joked and almost everyone laughed at the lame joke except for the two girls.

“Bi An, can you come to the front and demonstrate the cheography that your group have come out with so far?” She blinked her eyes and looked to him with a shocked expression. ‘Me?’ She conveyed the message with her eyes. Bi An went to the front and recalled the moves that were shown to her from her team’s best dancer, Taeyong. Her team consisted of Taeyong, Johnny and Hansol and they cheered her on with lifeless claps. She blew a raspberry before counting the rhythm in her head. Her crew sang the song while she danced it accordingly, although with a slight error at the beginning due to nerves, it was perfect till the end. She bowed with a cheerful smile on her face and high-fived Hansol before sitting back down.

“Not bad. But I want you, Hansol and Johnny to actually come out with something. Don’t make Taeyong do all the work." Taeyong laughed at them and gave a slight smirk. "Taeyong's getting less humble by the minute." Johnny joked and Bi An hit Taeyong playfully, so he wouldn't get too arrogant.

"Next, Myungye.” The inexperienced trainee stared in indignation. What? How coincident could it be for her to be chosen? She stood up in nervousness and shuffled her feet to the front. Her team, consisting of Mark, Yuta and Ten gave her a lively ‘hwaiting!’ before they looked on. Myungye exhaled. She started dancing but after the first round of moves, she couldn’t decide whether it was the right or left leg. And after that move, she was just a flurry of messy moves. She was downright annoyed and a little embarrassed. Who calls a trainee to do it so quickly? That was just impossible! She went back to sit behind the crowd silently and looked at Bi An fooling around with her team. She thinks she did so well, huh?

Mark, Yuta and Ten just whispered amongst themselves. “Yah, go say something encouraging!” The two hyungs urged the maknae. “I. DON’T. WANT. TO.” Mark said coldly and added through gritted teeth, “That girl is so rude and can’t even dance well after that whole issue that Bi was scolding her for. What a hypocrite.” She gave a sheepish grin as she came into eye contact with Yuta and Ten, who also returned the same sheepish and awkward grin. She sat down behind them and observed Min Soo dancing away. Hers was by far the most flawless performance, more so then that wretched girl anyways, and she had to admit she was actually good. Jaehyun wolf-whistled and gave a standing applause and was very excited to see his crush doing so well. Jeno and Donghyuck just lightheartedly laughed and gave their noona a proud hi-five.

“All 3 were good but Min Soo was perfect. And, Bi An, you need to be more relaxed. Isn’t that what I always tell you to do?” He joked as he gave her a kick to the sole of her outstretched feet and she retraced them with a yelp. He moved on to the next evaluation as he found the 3 behind her glaring at him. Jiho sweatdropped at the sight and reminded himself not to mess with the girl when they were there. “Myungye,” She pretended to smile and listen carefully. *He will probably say, ‘Since you are a trainee, you did pretty good. Keep it up!’* She rolled her eyes innerly yet maintained an apologetic smile.

“Sorry, you did pretty badly. Stay back for another hour and get someone to teach you until you get it right. Come back early tomorrow morning as well. The studio’s always open.” He ended on a light note and dismissed all of them. Everyone slowly packed up their belongings and went to their lockers to get their items, the only team left was Team Myungye. Jiho didn’t want to nag at her in front of everyone so he let them leave first. “But oppa? I’m still a trainee. Please give me more time and let me go home. I’m tired.” She pouted with the right amount of cuteness. She was a two-faced trainee afterall.

“It doesn’t matter whether you are a trainee or not,” Jiho said as he looked at the ceiling with an awkward glance,”If you , you are pretty much out. But you have the potential and that’s why I’m here to push you to achieve it! Go girl!” The dance trainer was as cheerful and optimistic as ever. He saw the unwillingness in her eyes though. “But if you really don’t want to, you can don’t practice.” He shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly. She widened her eyes in glee. “Really?!” “And get dropped by the SM Mentors? Yeah. Really.” He smiled innocently at her. Mark couldn’t help but to let out a muffled snigger at the trainer’s sarcasm. He slapped his cheeks lightly, hoping that he would start being serious in that situation and not laugh out loud.

For the love of god, Mark Lee, get a hold of yourself! She drooped her head forward, embarrassed to have thought that she had won the ‘I’m-a-trainee-so-let-me-off-easy’ battle. Jiho continued,”And you are bothering your teammates. Don’t give me that that you are tired. Okay, good luck guys! I’m going to get a drink. Go home when the hour’s over, arasso?” He hummed as he left the room chirpily. “Daebak.” Ten said with his mouth wide open. “His words seem nice but it’s actually so evil.” Yuta commented and Ten just sweatdropped at him. “Yah. You are just like him!” He told Yuta and he just received a smack on the head for making quite accurate assumptions. Mark just laughed at the two guys.

“By the way, whose going to teach the new trainee?” Ah. The question that would have been better left unasked appeared. "I kind of think that you should do it. Good luck Ten." Yuta patted his back as he headed into the locker room. He found the older ones hanging around while Jeno and Donghyuck had gone home to monopolise the shower first. They had seemed very delighted and were singing and screaming as they were going home. Jaehyun had shook his head at them and thought how he was a hyung to such weird kids. Min Soo had decided to wait for Myungye, being the kind and caring girl that she is, and Bi An then had to wait for Min Soo, because that was her best friend. All came to a cycle and it seemed like everyone stayed behind in the end.

Yuta looked at them in bewilderment but who was he to think they were a crazy bunch? Mark soon came in after and he looked at them like they were mentally unstable. He showed it really obviously on his face. "What the? Why aren't you going home?"

"Because..." Johnny looked at Taeyong, who then looked back and nudged his head in his direction, as if asking 'What do you want me to say?' Johnny scratched his head,"I'm waiting for Hansol. I don't know why he ain't leaving." Hansol just opened his mouth and gawked. These kids always had a flair of getting him into trouble. "I'm waiting for Jaehyun."

"Oh, then I actually get this. Jaehyun's waiting for Min Soo." Mark snickered as he high-fived Taeyong who was near to him. Everyone laughed except the girl in question. She stared inqusitively at Bi An who just gave her a small mysterious smile. "But-?"

"Min Soo's waiting for Myungye so we can go home together." Bi An replied without bothering for his question to finish. Mark nodded his head and cocked his head to the side knowingly.

After 15 minutes passed, everyone started getting bored and very hot. "I can't stand this room, it's killing me. It stinks and its warm." Bi An declared as she walked out of the door with her bag. Min Soo just stood up, took her bag and left as she acknowledged their presence by nodding her head. Soon, she was out the door.

"I fear that it was actually a dumb idea to stay in this cramped room in the first place." Johnny laughed and all the trainees went to the dance studio, where there was actually air-con and the air was actually chilled. Myungye got distracted as she heard the loud noises coming out from the locker room. Ten also looked at them weirdly. "What? You guys haven't went home?" Mark waved him off. "Long story." Ten whined, "Can't some of you get back home? I'm going to be the first one in the shower and I don't care how late it gets." Jaehyun, Ten's usual roommate and shower buddy, nodded his head in agreement. "Shoo, go away, go home. It's not like the walk to our dorm is 30 minutes. You can survive without talking to her." Jaehyun whispered the last part and forced them to leave the room.

Now, only Ten, Mark, Jaehyun, Min Soo, Myungye and Bi An was left in the trainee room. Min Soo looked at Bi An who yawned. "Bi An, you can go home first. Go shower and take a rest." She smiled motherly and Bi An, although quite unwilling, complied with her and decided to go home. "Mark, let's go." She said as she waited by the door. Unable to hide his smile, he turned it into a smirk. "Why? Too scared to go alone?"

"Shut up." She laughed,"I'm going to drag you to the dark side." She pretended to tickle him and when Mark actually did jolt away, she snickered.

Jaehyun realised he was left alone with Min Soo and he shyly fidgeted with his shoes. "Min Soo?" He called out cautiously.  She didn't reply. However, her head fell to the right side, on his shoulders. He shut up there and then. Not being able to do anything about the blush on his face, the only thoughts in his heads were; cute, minsoo, gah, minsoo, cute,be the best pillow ever. He summoned up courage to look at her and seeing the serene look on her face, he couldn't help but grin.

Mark and Bi An was playing a handphone game throughout the first 10 minutes of the whole 15 minutes walk and they both equally shared their misses in this teamwork game. She laughed as she finally put the game away.

"You are the worst player ever." Mark rolled his eyes. "Excuse me? I got a higher score when I played that alone!" She retorted. "I don't think so. I got a higher score indivually. Compared to you of course." He smiled back menacingly. She scrunched his nose and stuck her tongue out at him; her way of getting back, the childish way. He couldn't help but laugh at the kiddish sight. "Thanks for walking me home." She waved as her house came into sight.

"You were the one that forced me to walk with you." He gave her the eye.

"Oh? I thought you came out of your own accord." She rolled her eyes.

"Whatever. Bye."

"On second thought, do you want me to walk you home?" Bi An asked Mark. On the way home from the dance studio, the girl's dormitory was always first before the boy's one came into view. Mark just facepalmed at the thought. "No thanks, I can do it just fine."

"Okay, bye Markie!" She shouted and waved. He just waved back with a playful yet sincere smile on his face as he walked home filled with happy thoughts.
