Study, Cereal, Kisses

Breakfast encounters

“Youngjae, here.”

“Daehyun, I know that I agreed to eat breakfast here but I really have to finish these practice questions and do some last minute review before my test.”

“I know. And I promise I’ll do my best not to bother you, but I got you cereal and you should eat it before it gets soggy.”

Youngjae looked down at the chocolaty cereal and back up at an expectant Daehyun before looking back at the current problem he was on.

“Daehyun, I need my hand to write and the other to keep my place.”

“I could point out the problem or whatever you need for you. Or I could feed you again.”

Youngjae blushed at the memory of the day before. Since Daehyun had taken both yogurt and fruit, they ended up feeding each other. Afterwards he wondered why exactly he did that but reasoned that it was easier that way, him holding onto the yogurt and Daehyun the fruit; if they hadn’t then they would have had to kept switching and that would have just taken more time.

But it was a very different situation from today, they had been in a quiet area just the two of them with nobody around. Today they were at the usual table in the cafeteria with Junhong and Jong up probably on their way soon. The only reason Youngjae had even agreed was so that Daehyun wouldn’t take him so much food again and his condition was that he could keep his earphones on which he really wanted back from Daehyun; the other had taken it out to be able to speak to him and he really wasn’t that comfortable with just one on. But Youngjae also didn’t really want to try using his left hand to feed himself in case if he made a mess all over his papers.

Before he could even think about it anymore Daehyun was already holding the spoon in front of his mouth. Youngjae eyed it and huffed before accepting it and eyeing the bowl again cautiously.

“Don’t you think that needs more milk?”

To Youngjae it looked like more cereal than anything but it also looked like a lot and he wasn’t sure how he felt about Daehyun feeding him for long.

Daehyun hummed and gave Youngjae another spoonful as if telling him to shut up.

“If I need more I’ll go and get you more. Now, how about you keep studying and I’ll just keep feeding you.”

It was at this moment that not just Jong up and Junhong showed up at the table, but also Yongguk and Himchan holding hands.

“Well this is new.”

Yongguk offered his gummy smile and nodded to Daehyun, probably in thanks for the other day, Daehyun just smiled and waved it off before getting another spoonful after dropping the one he had ready, just because Youngjae had blindly tried reaching for the earbud that he was still holding hostage just to be sure that the other would keep eating.

“Not really. They’re just feeding each other again. Ow.”

Junhong received an elbow to the side from Himchan before Jong up pulled him down into a chair.

Youngjae’s head snapped up from the problem he was on and his hands stilled as he turned to the youngest not sure if he heard right.

“Junhong, what are you talking about?”

He received a hard poke to his side and turned to glare at Daehyun who used the opportunity to shove another spoonful of cereal in his mouth. Youngjae slowly chewed the cereal all the while glaring at the other.

“You two are just too cute that’s all that he meant.”

Himchan was practically cooing and Youngjae’s eye twitched slightly at the action.

“You’re still cuter Himchan.”

Youngjae and Junhong pretended to vomit at how sickeningly sweet the two were acting. Jong up and Daehyun continued on with their separate things as if Yongguk’s gummy smile and Himchan’s playful smile as well as lustful looks the two threw at each other were completely normal exchanges over breakfast.

“Uhm I think I’ll go back to the library. Nothing over there makes me want to throw up everything in my stomach.”

Youngjae attempted to stand but Daehyun tugged him back with the earbud still in his hand. He hushed the other with a rather large spoonful of cereal.

“Stay and at least finish your cereal first.”

The others stared shocked at Daehyun’s actions but Youngjae said nothing watching Daehyun carefully. The other was looking down at the math question trying to figure it out and Youngjae wanted to laugh at how ridiculous Daehyun looked with his brow furrowed and set in a thin line as if it would really help him.

“Here, I’ll show you how to solve it.”

Youngjae whispered softly and watched as Daehyun nodded numbly before turning to him eyes wide in surprise. They stared at each other for a moment and the others at the table noticed that it seemed to be an intimate moment between the two. They tried to not pay too close attention but watched from the corner of their eyes all curious about the bet.

Their faces were inches away, each silent staring at each other surprised at the sudden situation they found themselves in. Youngjae blushed as he realized that they’ve been in close situations before but this one felt different. He had never felt so exposed before this, the way Daehyun was looking at him with such hesitation and tenderness took his breath away. He felt himself wanting to move closer and his eyes widened when he realized that Daehyun seemed to be closing the distance between them.

Youngjae jolted upright just at the moment that the song on his iPod changed. Daehyun seemed shocked but realization soon hit and he also sat up wide eyed. Youngjae tried to focus on the song playing in order to calm his rapidly beating heart, math problem completely forgotten. Daehyun avoided his eyes but handed him back the other earbud before looking back at the cereal bowl.

Himchan watched as the two boys sat stiff and attempting to avoid each other, both blushing madly. He reached out and found Yongguk’s hand, the other responded by holding on and giving it a small squeeze. Himchan sighed in relief but also held on tighter in frustration. He didn’t want to lose the bet, but he also didn’t want the two to take too long to say how they felt. Yongguk had taken four years and although Himchan was thankful because he had been struggling with refusing to admit that he felt anything for the other, it still would have been better to have known some time back. He knows that he would have known and admitted his feelings whenever Yongguk would have confessed.

Junhong was poking at his food pouting at how his hyungs were being. Anybody could tell that they liked each other but they were being dumb about it. He saw Jieun and Hyusong wave at him from another table, eyes wide and questioning. He shook his head at them and saw that they also seemed worried about things.

Jong up said nothing but watched as Youngjae numbly did math problems and Daehyun stared sadly at the cereal bowl stealing glances at Youngjae. A movement behind them caught his eyes and he stood a little straighter catching Youngjae’s attention who was seated right in front of him. He looked up curious at the other’s sudden change of expression and turned to try and see what had the normally quiet, calm boy on the edge of his seat. Anything was better than thinking about Daehyun leaning in so close.

What he saw left him a little bit surprised but a hesitant poke to his cheek had him turning and facing Daehyun holding out another spoonful of cereal. The other still avoided his eyes but he bit his lip afraid that it would be rejected. Youngjae said nothing but quietly accepted the spoonful before turning back.

It was the girl from before, the one who helped him and Daehyun carry all of the food to the table, the week before. She was walking alone again, like the week before she was only buying one thing; but unlike the week before she was in a very different mood today. She clearly had headphones on and had a small smile lighting up her face and making her eyes shine.

He turned back to the table in time to receive another spoonful from Daehyun and to also catch a look of longing and worry on Jong up’s face. It was soon replaced with a polite smile as Junhong seemed to be asking him a question.

Youngjae turned back to his homework but felt his earbud be gently pulled from his ear again. He hesitated before turning to Daehyun who seemed to be looking at a spot past him.

“Youngjae, I’m sorry about earlier. I uhm, didn’t really expect that to happen.”

His voice was soft, hesitant and Youngjae couldn’t help but to listen closely hanging onto every soft sound. It took him a second longer to realize that Daehyun seemed to be waiting for a response and he nodded numbly.

“It’s ok Daehyun. I’m sorry too and thank you for feeding me you know.”

“No problem Youngjae. Uhm I’ll be right back, I’m going to go and get myself some food.

“Oh, uhm yeah sure Daehyun.”

He watched as the other got up to walk away and felt a pang in his chest at Daehyun’s slow heavy steps.

Youngjae turned sadly back to the table, but was surprised to realize that only Jong up was sitting there. He looked around but only saw Junhong talking to Jieun and Hyosung.

“Since when were they so close and where did Yongguk and Himchan run off to.”

Jong up opened his mouth to answer before Youngjae interrupted him.

“Never mind I don’t think I want to know where they went.”

He turned back to his math problems, just a few more left and Jong up chuckled quietly.

“I think Yongguk hyung forgot something and Himchan just went with him to get it, they shouldn’t take long. And only recently, but they had a question and Junhong went over to see if he could help since Yongguk had already left.”

Youngjae hummed and quickly finished a problem before reaching for a spoonful of cereal. His hand found the spoon but he was surprised when he moved it around inside and felt no resistance. The only thing he found was the sound of clattering as the spoon hit the sides and bottom of the bowl.

He hesitated before setting his pencil down and pulling the bowl closer to him. As he stared inside he was surprised to find it empty.

“Something wrong hyung?”

Youngjae didn’t miss the hint of amusement in Jong ups voice but he continued to stare at the bowl, a small frown on his face.

“Jong up, did Daehyun drink the milk?”

“No. He fed you and that was all.”

“But there’s always milk left over or cereal, but there’s nothing here. Are you sure he didn’t help?”

Jong up looked at him before sighing and patting Youngjae on his wrist to get his attention.

“Hyung, he didn’t drink any. He bought it for you and only gave it to you. There really wasn’t anything left over.”

He said each word hoping that Youngjae would get it. The older made a face into the bowl, trying to understand but still confused.

“But Jong up, how isn’t there anything left over?”

Jong up sighed but saw Daehyun walking back over to them.

“You can ask him, hyung. He’s walking back here.”

Youngjae jumped slightly in his seat before turning back to Jong up, expression serious.

“I’ll ask but you should talk to that girl. You both do a lot of looking at each other.”

The younger blushed slightly but nodded and looked away. Youngjae stared at him curious for answers but stilled when he felt the seat next to him suddenly become occupied.

He turned and noticed that it wasn’t just Daehyun but also Junhong that was back. Daehyun was handing a happy Junhong a salad bowl with cherry tomatoes and Youngjae couldn’t help but think back to the first day he met Daehyun. Junhong had wanted a salad but Youngjae wouldn’t buy it for the younger’s breakfast, and yet here was Daehyun sitting with them, handing him a bowl. The realization of the sudden change in such a short time hit him and his hand dropped brushing against Daehyun’s thigh.

Daehyun turned to him, eyes widening and smile turning into a surprised gesture at the expression on the others face. Youngjae was frozen, eyes wide and mouth open slightly, but something seemed to be making him panic.

“Hyung, are you ok?”

Junhong spoke up concerned and Jong up looked up surprised. Daehyun was already standing up and pulling a numb Youngjae after him, careful to support the other, who seemed to be light headed.

“I’m going to take him outside, some fresh air might help. I’ll bring him back in a little bit.”

“Hyung.”

Daehyun turned and accepted the water bottle that Jong up handed to him. Junhong bit his lip but was happy to see Youngjae numbly wave at him, to show that he was ok.

Once outside, Daehyun began to lead him to the courtyard and pulled him down onto a bench, handing him the water bottle which he gladly accepted and drank from.

“Youngjae, are you ok?”

He nodded and leaned slightly against Daehyun’s willing shoulder as well so he could to catch his breath. It had taken him weeks to feel able to call his friends “friends”. But here was Daehyun, in less than two weeks, the person he was relying on, the person who kept making it difficult for him to remember to breathe or do anything and kept his heart racing.

“Hey, Daehyun.”

“Hmm. You’re feeling better already? Do you want to go inside now then, Youngjae.”

He couldn’t ignore the way Daehyun seemed to suddenly seem to be hesitating and shy around him. It was bothering him, Daehyun wasn’t usually like this.

“I’m feeling better, but can we stay out here a little bit longer?”

He wanted to talk to Daehyun and ask a few questions, but also the air felt good against his warm skin. The other didn’t answer so he took it as a yes.

“Daehyun, how come there wasn’t any milk or cereal left in the bowl.”

Daehyun seemed surprised by the question and turned slightly towards him making him have to sit up. They stared at each other before Daehyun cleared his throat and looked forward.

“There wasn’t anything left. I fed you, but then I ran out. Did you want more? We can go inside and I can go get you more.”

Youngjae shook his head and bit his lip before continuing on.

”I’m full, but how did you do that. I can never seem to just serve myself once and not need to go back a few times to not serve myself more of something.”

It was bothering him. He could never get the ratio right to where there wouldn’t be anything left the first time. But then again, here was Daehyun changing everything so easily again.

Speaking of Daehyun, he was beginning to fidget a little before looking back sheepishly at Youngjae.

“I practiced.”

Youngjae blinked and looked back at the other surprised and waiting for an explanation.

“Yongguk explained to me how you like cereal but it starts to frustrate you a lot how you have to serve yourself around three times so that you don’t have to eat anything alone. He said it was one of your biggest pet peeves and I started to notice it a little, so well I practiced a little bit to try and get it right for you…”

Youngjae sat eyes wide before he felt Daehyun tug on his wrist slightly.

“Hey you ok? I’m sorry if that might have weirded you out a little bit…”

“When did you ask Yongguk?”

“The day we met, he had asked me to help with Himchan when he showed me around school and saw I had a music class, but I never really thought I’d get the chance to talk to you so soon and I wanted to know a little bit more about you.”

Daehyun was scared about if he didn’t answer. Youngjae seemed like he was taking his time to breathe and Daehyun was worried.

“What else did he tell you?”

“Not much. You tutor Junhong and Jong up, you like video games, you’re smart and helpful even though you try to look like you don’t care much about things, you actually care a lot.”

Youngjae took a breath before letting out a small laugh at Daehyun’s rambling, he was getting more comfortable talking and Youngjae liked it a lot better than earlier.

“Daehyun that’s a lot for a first day.”

The other seemed surprised before offering a big smile, happy that Youngjae seemed to be feeling better and had actually laughed which he hadn’t really done that day.

“Maybe, but I still want to know more, if that’s ok?”

Youngjae blushed and took a careful sip of the water before nodding slightly and earning him a large hug from Daehyun. It wasn’t necessarily a hug since Daehyun didn’t seem like he was ready to let go yet. But Youngjae didn’t mind, it actually felt nice and he rested his head on the others chest.

“Oh and Youngjae, you never answered me about when Himchan had said that we should date, did I really miss it?”

Youngjae felt his face turn red and he quickly buried it in the other’s neck.

“Uhm you weren’t there. That was the day after we met.”

Youngjae had tried to say it as normally as possible but he couldn’t stop his heart from beating so quickly or the flips in his stomach from Daehyun’s slight chuckle.

“That long huh? Well I don’t know about you, but I’d really like that. I was trying to work up to it sometime soon but I guess it’s been obvious since we met.”

Youngjae hesitated before pulling away and looking into the other’s smiling face.

“Is that really how you’re asking me out?”

Daehyun’s smile faltered a bit from Youngjae’s glare before returning again as he spoke.

“Well I could take four years like Yongguk, but I can’t wait that long and I’m not sure how he did either. Youngjae, you’ve been driving me crazy, since I saw you I wanted to know you. And when I met you, I couldn’t stop thinking about you. Now I don’t want to be away from you for long and I want to get closer than we have been. I almost kissed you in the cafeteria earlier, but it wasn’t even the first time I thought about doing that.”

Youngjae blushed brightly, he had only been teasing the other and hadn’t really expected all of this. He couldn’t help but to think that he felt the same way as what Daehyun had been describing.

“So what do you say Youngjae? Would it be alright with you if we start dating, or maybe you’re not interested in me? I’d understand if you weren’t.”

Youngjae watched as Daehyun started blushing and avoiding his eyes. He didn’t understand why Daehyun was being like this and at the same time he understood a little of how Himchan must have felt. Even though Youngjae had known before Daehyun had started confessing that he was beginning to have feelings for the other, he still wasn’t sure where to go from here.

He gently nudged Daehyun to get his attention and took a breath when he looked at him with some worry in his eyes.

“You have so many girls after you and here you are with me-“

Daehyun scoffed. “What about you? Himchan really shouldn’t have had them do your hair like that, too many girls stare at you and I don’t like it.”

“Don’t interrupt me. And what I was going to say is if another girl follows you or gives you lovey dovey eyes you’ll have to answer to me. You’ve only had to deal with it a few days, I’ve had to deal with it almost a week longer.”

Daehyun thought about it for a moment before nodding understanding where Youngjae was coming from. It took a second for him to realize the other part of what Youngjae had meant and he turned to the other who was sitting looking at him expectedly.

“Youngjae, are you serious? You want to date me?”

The younger rolled his eyes before turning his body slightly and looking Daehyun right in the eyes.

“Are you really that dumb? I don’t make friends that quickly and I’m not this touchy with many people. I’m saying yes, just to make it clearer for you.”

Daehyun looked about ready to jump off of the bench but seemed to settle for pulling Youngjae into a kiss.

The kiss was simple, soft, and innocent but Youngjae felt so much more than just Daehyun’s lips on his. It was the usual comfortable feeling that he was getting used to with each of Daehyun’s touches, but there was also something else. He remembered, the first time they met, he had felt a slight jolt when he had bumped into Daehyun, only right now it felt multiplied by ten and was accompanied with a warmth that seemed to spread throughout his body.

As quickly as Daehyun had pulled him in he pulled away. His eyes lingered on Youngjae’s lips for a second before searching for his eyes and offering him a large smile.

“I’ve been wanting to do that and I’m just happy that you’ll be my boyfriend now.”

Youngjae hummed slightly before leaning close to Daehyun and stealing another kiss. He also pulled away quickly leaving Daehyun gaping at him. It quickly turned to a small laugh before he pulled the younger squirming into a comfortable embrace. Youngjae stopped resisting after a few seconds and stared back at Daehyun who was looking at him ready to kiss him before they were interrupted by squealing.

“Soo cute!”

“Both of you hush.”

“Sorry…”

Youngjae and Daehyun sat up shocked before Youngjae stood and marched over to where the sound had come from, Daehyun following curiously behind.

They quickly found Himchan, Jieun, and Hyosung startled and poorly attempting to act as if they hadn’t been spying on them for who knows how long. Youngjae took a second before turning to Hyosung who must have been the one who had tried to shush Jieun and Himchan.

“Uhm we haven’t been here for long.”

Daehyun chuckled and Youngjae turned his glare to Himchan, who he would have expected more of.

“Uhm, well you see. Wait Youngjae don’t you have a test to study for?”

Youngjae glared, hands on his hips at Himchan’s poor attempt to distract him but Daehyun poked him gently on his side.

“Uhm Youngjae… you kinda were studying for a test… We kind forgot.”

Youngjae stared at Daehyun for a second before cursing, giving Himchan one last glare and pulling his boyfriend’s hand back to the cafeteria and table. Himchan and the girls followed along a little hesitant.

Youngjae and Daehyun took their seats and Youngjae ignored everybody’s stares as he pulled out his review notes. Daehyun reached for his free hand and held it in his lap, smiling at the others.

Himchan soon joined them at the table and the girls suddenly approached the table glancing towards Yongguk and Himchan. Hyosung glanced at Daehyun and Youngjae and smiled hesitantly but Jieun spoke up quickly.

“So about that bet…”

Youngjae slammed his notes shut and stared at all of the guilty faces at the table. Daehyun seemed surprised and pulled the younger closer to him to try and calm him down.

“You guys didn’t.”

“Hyung I didn’t do anything! They’re the ones who were betting, I swear I wouldn’t do that.”

Youngjae glanced at a terrified Junhong before turning back to the others who seemed to be finding everything else so amusing. The girls laughed and Daehyun chuckled before landing a soft kiss on his boyfriend’s cheek. He looked angry but since it wasn’t at him, it was incredibly cute.

Youngjae hummed slightly and rested his hands on the others. He was upset still but the warmth from the other was starting to calm him down a bit more.

~A/N~

So...finally they get together, sorry to take so long for this to happen... I really hope it's not disappointing :/

Also this is the longest I've written and I mostly wrote it in blocks, proofreading slightly and not as a whole so sorry if it's kind of hard to understand or anything.

I'm sorry it took about a week to update I was a little busy and was also starting a new Fanfic (well possible series, the banghim can stand alone but I'm not sure if the rest can, so not sure if it should be one long thing or separate per pairing...)

There will be one more chapter (more of a bonus). It won't be long (this was about ten pages), and will be just so that I don't leave it just on this note. I'm not sure how you guys might feel about my having put a girl in here for Jong up but Idon't know if I should do a oneshot of that (I'm giving myself hell apparently) or just kind of put it in the bonus.

Thank you again so much for reading, viewing, subscribing, commenting, upvoting, everything! It really makes me smile and feel happy and just so thankful for all of you and I just hope that I haven't disappointed you guys at some point in the story...

Again thank you guys and I'm going to go sleep, thank you for your time and sorry for my rambling.

Like this story? Give it an Upvote!
Thank you!
