“What are you thinking, love?” Minho smiles while stepping out onto the balcony and wrapping his arms around her waist.
“The kids asleep yet?” Yoona asks, leaning against him gently.
“Mhm. Chaerin made a tiny fuss about the air conditioner being spoilt, but Jaehwa was already asleep by the time I entered the room. I’ll fix the air conditioner tomorrow. And… you haven’t answered my question.” He replies, resting his head on her shoulder.
“… I don’t know. I really have no clue what I’m thinking. Just staring at the stars, I guess.”
“Did I say something, Yoona? You’ve been like this the whole night. I’m your husband, you can tell me if there’s something wrong.” Minho whispers against her ears.
“It’s not you… Sica unnie came over today morning, and we talked. We talked about her and Jonghyun. They seem to be quarreling a lot lately, and well… she sounds so angry. I just… I’m quite disturbed by that. I wish I could do something about it.”
Minho chuckles. “Always so thoughtful, Yoona. Don’t worry about it. I’ll talk some sense into Jonghyun hyung and see what I can do. ‘Sides, they’re always quarreling, aren’t they? And then they’ll go back to super lovey-dovey mood again. It’s all so dramatic.”
“I suppose.” Yoona sighs.
That’s when Minho frowns for the first time that night. “Yoong, you’re upset about something other than that.” He turns her around and combs through her light brown hair as he says, “What’s wrong? I know it’s not just them.”
Yoona’s not surprised. Having been with him so long, Minho knows what she’s thinking even if she doesn’t say it—and most of the time, he’s right. This is but one of the examples.
“Sometimes I feel like such an incompetent wife. I don’t cook as well as Tiffany does, I’m not as cute as Sunny, I don’t sing as well as Taeyeon, I’m not as gorgeous as Sica, I’m not smart like Seohyun, and…” She trails off, biting her lip.
“Don't tell me,” he holds her face, “that my wife is comparing herself with other wives?”
Yoona looks at her feet awkwardly, unable to say a word.
Minho chuckles once more. “Aigoo, my poor angel. Let me tell you something. You light up my life in every single way. What you said might have been true in certain ways, but you, as yourself, have simply taken my breath away the first time I lay my eyes on you, when I saw you practicing in the SM building. You haven’t changed since then. In my eyes, I still see the innocent, doe-eyed angel, hardworking and constantly working to improve herself. That innocent beauty is only radiated from you, and that’s what attracts me to you. You’ve got a heart of gold, you’ve blessed me with two beautiful children, and I’m honored to have you as my wife. There’s no need to compare because I love you with all my heart, and no one else… but you.”
Yoona is left speechless again, but this time a smile crosses her face, and tears are springing to her eyes.
“My love… don’t cry,” he smiles too, kissing the top of her head. “You look beautiful even when you’re crying, but I prefer you smiling, of course. I can’t explain how you look tonight, in the moonlight… I love you. I love you I love you I love you, Mrs. Choi.”
That does it for her. Tears fall from her eyes even though she’s been told not to. Minho isn’t mad though; he just kisses her tears away, and pulls her into a gentle hug.
“I’m sorry…” She whispers.
“Don’t be. Just promise me you’ll never think that way again.”
“… I promise.”
