Dear Jongin
Her Letters to Jongin
I opened the box.
Not going to lie, I was kind of skeptical of the whole thing.
Did my best friend have some sort of obsession towards Jongin? How did she come to really know him? From what I remember we had the same circle of friends, but we never really talked directly unless it was a conversation between all of us.
Unless they had a relationship none of us knew about.
But that’s impossible. Soojung’s my best friend and she tells me everything.
Except for this box full of letters she wrote to Jongin, I reminded myself.
She never showed much interest for boys back then. Her parents were strict about dating and reminded their daughters that studying should come first.
Biting my lip, I forced myself to look inside the box.
The first thing I saw caused my jaw to drop.
In the box, there were a couple of felt tip pens and a few little trinkets. What I noticed almost immediately was the huge stack of paper envelopes of different sizes that were slowly yellowing delicately at the corners. That wasn’t what caused my jaw to drop, however.
There was a little polaroid picture that looked a bit aged. The colors on the image formed two figures leaning towards each other. The smaller figure leaned in towards the larger figure’s shoulder while the larger figure’s head rested on the smaller figure’s head.
The smaller figure looked an awfully lot like Soojung. There was no doubt about it. The girl in the picture had pink hair, and I remember Soojung’s hair being pink back in our sophomore year. Her parents said it was okay to dye her hair, and so she went for her favorite color: pink.
The larger figure had broad shoulders and dark hair that was slightly messy. It wore a flannel button-up shirt that had the first two buttons opened.
It was Jongin
