Prologue

Yoona fidgets restlessly at her seat as she is currently anticipating the appearance of a guy who has yet to show up. A low, audible sigh is heard as she peeks a glance at her wristwatch for the umpteenth time. It has been almost an hour yet he hasn’t arrived yet. Could it be he have forgotten today’s crucial meeting?

Nevertheless, she manages to let a smile run across her face by merely reminiscing the moment when Lu Han had asked her for a meeting at the playground near their school only to confess his feelings for her. Seriously, she is not expecting he would develop affectionate feelings for her though he has dropped a bunch of obvious hints for several times. Prior to the hints, she pretends to be oblivious. She wants to hear directly from his mouth so that she can acknowledge it.

Both of them have been close friends since the first year of high school. They practically do everything together that everyone in the school dubs them as twins. To be honest, she has loved him since the first moment she lays her eyes on him. She is intrigued by his enticing charm. She couldn’t contain how much she feels when Lu Han chooses to sit next to her and since then, they have been a pair of inseparable friends.

Lu Han is undoubtedly nice to her. He never makes her upset even for a slight. The other girls are awfully envious towards her when Lu Han opts to be only close to her and never sticks with the other female students. No words can express her euphoria when Lu Han has once said these words to her;

“I already have you. Why should I bother sticking with the other girls?”

Yesterday, right before the morning class was about to start, Lu Han came to her locker and uttered, “Tomorrow, I’ll confess my feelings for you… so please don’t run away when you see me tomorrow, Yoona!”

Despite being in complete shock, she tried to be composed and merely nodded in comprehension. “Alright then, Han. I’m looking forward to hearing your confession!” She twisted a big smile at the corner of her lips. She was beyond exhilarated to hear this shocking new in such early morning, for God’s sake.

“Then I’ll see you at the playground near our school,” he answered coolly.

“What if when you were not there tomorrow?” There was some sort of provocation in her remark, making the latter flinch slightly.

Lu Han laughed nervously and stared into her eyes fervently. “Don’t worry, dear. I swear I’ll definitely be there.”

Well, that’s what he said but look now, he is not even here! How depressing she must have been now.

After much thought, she opts to simply leave the scene. What’s the use if she insists to be here but the one who wants to meet her is not even here? Plus, the clock has struck to 3.30 pm. If Lu Han really yearned for her presence, he wouldn’t have made her wait for him to thix extent. This is really, really too much for her to handle alone.

When she is about to walk out the playground, her cell phone rings and she bothers to accept the call.

“Hello?” she starts monotonously as she flicks the ‘accept’ button.

“Hello, Yoona?! Where are you right now?!”

Flustered, she flinches at the frantic voice. She recognizes the husky, deep voice. It’s clearly Minseok’s voice. “Minseok? What’s wrong? I’m at the playground near the school.”

“Please come straight to the hospital! Lu Han.... he’s.... got into an accident!”

“What the fu-” she nearly curses, but thank God she does not. “Lu Han’s got into an accident? What happened?”

“It’s too long to explain here! Just come straight to the hospital! I’ll text you the address.”

“Alright then! I’ll head there as soon as you send me the address!”

The call has ended and she impatiently waits for the text message. Shock, woe and bemusement mash together into one, rushing vigorously through her adrenaline rush.

It’s as if a dream comes to reality when she heard the breaking news. She couldn’t contain her complete shock when she knows Lu Han is at the hospital right now due to the accident he has gotten himself into. She eventually knows why he’s not here.

If this meeting were not held in the first place, this kind of extreme situation wouldn’t have happened. There’s no use to blame anyone here nor would she cry herself silly. Lu Han has already in the hospital. He may be in the emergency room as for now.

Poor Lu Han, what if he were to pass away through this accident, following his parent’s steps to death?

No ing way. Lu Han will be alright and he is not going to die, for God’s sake!

Well, that’s what she hopes to be. But what if death would be the best option if the result of his consciousness will only bring misery to her?

Author's Note : Hello there! I’m here to bring you a brand new, short story entitled ‘I Hear Your Voice’. I pretty know the title is definitely plagiarized but the title itself relates to the plot so yeah, no comment hehe. Anyway, this story is my entry for Darkfic Writing Contest. To be honest, I was moved to write this kind of genre which is not my cup of tea (though I do love to read dark fics) because of I was inspired by watching a decent k-drama, ‘Who Are You?’. I liked the idea of Luhan having powers that were not his from MAMA. I've seen a lot of stories (Including one of my own) where the members of EXO end up having or already have their given powers. I like that you took an original twist and gave him a different sort of power. Your plot is well developed and I like it. The flow is not too fast nor too slow.

As for the foreword, it's a short prologue that explains what happened before Luhan's accident, which is good in my opinion since from the very first chapter we get to move on to the proper plot. Also, the prologue shortly explains what kind of relationship Luhan and Yoona had before Luhan's accident happened, which is a good thing, too.
