Not That Bad

Don't Go...

"I'm sorry. I really t-thought you stole the d-deer plushie that I bought f-for Baekhyun-hyung," he apologized and handed over the deer plushie.

"I'm a-also sorry f-for being like a m-meanie to you... It's just that I-I-I started to meet b-bad vibes since we f-first bumped," he continued to stutter. The deer boy just eyed at him.

"A-also, thank you for saving me. You still helped me despite of the fact that we're like mortal enemies. I guess, I-I owe you my l-life," he tried to minimize the stammering.

The other just cutely pouted. "I'm not that sadistic and stone-hearted to let you drown in there." Sehun smiled.

"Take this as a peace offering and this one as a thank you gift." He gave a deer keychain and a wristband with some sort of plate embedded for printing purpose.

"T-thank you. I just... I wanna apologize, too, Sehun. I just hate it that you annoy me always so I annoy you back. I'm sorry." Sehun was smiling.

"And... thanks a million for running away from me quickly after you pulled my arm and saved me from an accident," the deer boy said laughingly, making Sehun smile sheepishly.

"I can explain. No problem with that actually. Except that I was surprised and I didn't know what to do." The deer boy bursted into laughing.

"You're weird..." He said, still smiling.

"Yeah. Fine. Well, I know you knew me already but I guess, we better do it more formally. I'm Oh Sehun. Nice to meet you," he changed the topic and stuck out his right hand.

Mr. Blondie put away the presents from Sehun and took the hand. "I'm Xi Luhan. It's nice to meet you, too," he spoke as they shook their hands.

"Oh, Luhan, huh? Well, uhhh... Friends?" White puppy asked.

     "Yep. Friends," Luhan simply replied.

As Sehun shook hands with Luhan, he felt somewhat good. He thought to himself, "Suho-hyung was right." He now agrees that "Pride is the only poison that when swallowed, gives cure." He didn't know why but he really felt freaking good like thorns were plucked out of his flesh. He kinda felt relieved maybe? He just realized that Luhan was not bad at all. Maybe it was just his imaginations. Imaginations of how bad, mean, cruel and sadistic Luhan could be. He thought to himself that maybe his Yeol-hyung was also right. That Luhan was his angel. The angel that gave him the  second chance to live. Sehun felt ashamed as he remembered the things he have done to the cute boy. The shooting of daggers, the cutting of the knife-like words, the bumping of shoulders and arms, the stepping of feet, the spilling of bubble tea, and the worst, the wrong accusation about the stealing of the plushie White puppy concluded that his cold and bitter attitude could really cause troubles.

They slolwly pulled away. Both of them felt a little bit awkward. Who wouldn't? Formerly enemies, currently friends. After the long awkward silence, one of them spoke.

"So, we'll just remain in awkward silence?" Luhan asked after gathering a huge amount of courage.

"Uhhh... I'm sorry. I just don't know what to say."

"And I'm hesitating to say something. Is this true? Maybe this is just a small part of another big scheme," the blonde suspected.

"Wow. I'm not that bad," the brunette defended himself.

"Weh? But once you teamed up with that eyeliner boy just to make me slip the moment I go out of the washroom."

"Really? I can't remember something like that."

"Oh, c'mon. You're the liar, not me," Luhan replied and laughed.

"I'm just joking, deer boy." Luhan had fighting eyebrows.

     "Deer boy?" He asked.

"Yeah, deer boy. Do I need to state the reason why?" Then Luhan slowly nodded and looked like hesitating to let Sehun make it clear to him.

"Oh fine. First, it's your doe eyes. Second, your plushie." And Luhan parted his lips in understanding.

"Well, lunch done?" Sehun spoke the query.

"Why? You'll treat me?" Luhan grinned playfully.

"As if you'll come with me if I won't." A chuckle left Luhan's lips. "Let's go, friend. My treat," Sehun added despite of the realization that the two of them were acting kinda weird and different. He just tapped the boy's shoulder and went ahead. The blonde just followed.

They went to the cafeteria. He really treated Luhan for lunch. There, they got to know each other deeper. Luhan was already 19 years old and a graduating student in high school. When Sehun found this out, he almost spitted out his drink. The older just cutely laughed at the view and earned a pout from the younger. Sehun didn't expect it since he thought that Luhan was just more or less of the same age as him. Well, he was deceived by Luhan's looks.

White puppy also found out that th deer boy wasn't a stalker. He just knew the brunette's name since Sehun was popular among high school girls. And the attention he's giving to Luhan kinda made Luhan a bit known in the academy, too.

Luhan is a Chinese boy. His father is a successful businessman that owns a company while his mother has been deceased for several years already. He has three sisters and he's the only boy among the siblings. Luhan has shared it all to him. He's in Korea due to the SASA (Seoul Arts and Sciences Academy) which produces good quality graduates. The deer boy is just staying on a house his father bought for him. He's left with an all-around house helper and a bodyguard slash driver which he actually doesn't want to come with him everywhere he goes. As you can see, Luhan's family is wealthy and it has amazed Sehun how Luhan has managed to hide it or even just look not like the wealthy kid.

"Wow... You're rich but you don't look like one."

"It's because I don't want to be avoided by people."

      "Avoided? What do you mean?"

"It's just... I don't know but when people in China know that I'm rich and a son of a wealthy businessman, they tend to avoid me. It seems that they're afraid of my father. I don't have many friends, you know. I spent my childhood mostly at home. I even underwent kindergarten and early primary school there."

     "What? Home study?" Sehun asked.

"Yes. They only hired private tutors. But eventually on my third grade I badly wanted to experience being in schools. My mother granted that for me. I'm about to be enrolled in third grade but I had to take second grade again due to the fact I only learned through home study. It's not that I cared much about repeating a grade. I just wanted to go school. That's the reason why I'm 19 yet still in third grade of high school."

"I see. I'm sorry to hear that. You have a not-so-good childhood, eh?"

"Kinda. Well, how about you, Sehun? You're in first grade of high school but just 15. Why is that so?"

"It's because I was accelerated before. Same to my friend, Kai. Both of us outstood in our classes when we're still in primary school."

"Wow. Pretty intelligent, huh?" Luhan complimented.

They talked more and more. They shared their own stories and they both listened carefully to what the other had to say. Both of them heard facts that they never expected, making them regret what they've done to each other before. The two of them were victims of ill-relationships with their family.

"My parents are not that good in attendance." Sehun said.

     "Attendance? What do you mean?"

"They're not always present at home. They're not like that before but now that they're becoming more excellent in their jobs, they're also becoming oblivious of their responsibilities at home. Not that I blame their jobs. I just don't like the thought of them forgetting me."

"You had a really good childhood with them, hadn't you?"

"Yes, I had. To the extent that I became like a person who never learned to smile."

"You mean, they're the reason why you're always have a pokerface?" Sehun just nodded to Luhan's question.

"Can you explain why you're smiling the moment we first bumped?" Luhan asked.

"It's because they're acting like they care for me again. It made me feel good and overwhelmed. I'm smiling like an idiot until my friends called me as the Walking Miracle. Is a smile from already a miracle?" Th older laughed.

"Maybe for them. Well, I didn't witnessed your pokerface that much. The first time I saw you, you're smiling. Then the next day, we bumped and you're in an annoyed look. Then the following days we're exchanging different looks and stares. I just saw your pokerface on one of those days," Luhan giggled as he remembered those times.

"It's so funny that we're like that before and we're like this now. We're supposed to be totally awkward but we're not. We're even taking turns in telling the dramas of our lives. But... I'm happy that we're friends already. I really feel sorry for what I've done before, Luhan," the younger said. The other smiled and felt the same.

"So do I. So the feeling is mutual, eh?" The two laughed when that boy used to be called as Mr. Blondie tried to imitate what Sehun had told him before.

Time flew really fast. Lunch time was over but it seemed that they didn't want to go. It seemed that they got fond of each other. Maybe because they could relate to each other when it comes to family matters. Birds with the same feather flock together, they say.

They didn't want to leave yet but they had to since they still had class. They just agreed to meet in the afternoon after class at the cafeteria.

Classes went on and Sehun felt like he couldn't wait for the dismissal. He's too fascinated with the boy's life and really wanted to know him more. It felt like a thousand years to him and he's growing impatient. Kai was just puzzled of Sehun's acts. He tried to ask but he didn't get any straight answer. He got tired of it so he just let Sehun be.

The bell rang and Kai was dumbfounded of how fast Sehun moved and ran away from their room. Before he could say goodbye, the younger was already out of sight.

Sehun impatiently waited at the cafeteria. He kept on glancing at his phone clock from time to time. He didn't know but he felt comfortable with Luhan and he's liking Luhan's company. All the realizations he had had made him more guilty and regretful of what he had done before. Anyway, the one he'd been waiting for arrived already. Right away, he smiled and his whole impatience was flushed away.

"Sehun, sorry to keep you waiting. I still had to finish some stuffs. Don't worry, they're all done already," Luhan apologized.

"Ahh. It's okay. Well, let's go?" He asked and took a grab of Luhan's small wrist.

"Ehh? Where are we going?" The older asked cluelessly.

"Secret. Just come with me," and he dragged Luhan out of the building.

Luhan recognized the path they're taking. He had an idea of where they were going and when they arrived at the place, Luhan knew he's right. It was the Bubble Tea Shop.

"You also like bubble tea, right?"

     "Yes. Why so?"

"Let's have a continuation of our chitchat here," and he dragged the deer again.

They went in and headed straight to the counter. This time, Luhan insisted to treat Sehun. They almost quarrelled since Sehun wanted to treat Luhan also. They almost brought back the old days, their days of being strangers to each other and at the same time, enemies. The two of them just  agreed that whoever would win the paper, rock and scissors would do the treat. Kinda opposite compared to the normal but that's how they wanted it to be. Well, after three draws, Luhan won with the scissors. And as agreed, Sehun accepted the defeat. The girl at the back of the counter finally sighed in relief.

Luhan let Sehun find a seat for them. He bought a taro-flavored bubble tea for himself and chocolate for the younger. After paying at the counter, he left and went to their table where Sehun was waiting for him.

"Oh. I forgot to-" His words were cut as he stood up and looke up to Luhan, almost bumping him.

     "Here, chocolate."

"-tell you my flavor," he continued in a mellow voice. Somewhat like he was awestruck.

"Wait. I'm not a stalker. I just remembered the flavor of the bubble tea you're sipping when you made me spill mine to my own shirt and body."

"Ahh... Err... He-hehe... I-I'm sorry for that," Sehun smiled and giggled awkwardly as they both sat down.

"How many times have you apologized to me this day? Let bygones be bygones," Luhan told him as he shoved the chocolate bubble tea to the younger's hand.

"Okay. As you say so." They both smiled. "Uhh... By the way, thanks for this."

     "Sure. No prob."

They started talking after conquering the hesitation of who to speak first. Sehun found out that Luhan was closest to his mom and he felt unlucky since she already died. Luhan confessed that he's not that close with his remaining family except with one sister. Luhan didn't know but since the death of his mother, things changed and continued to changed. No more warmth, no more love, no more bond, no more home. It's broken. His heart was broken. Together with everything in his world, he was broken.

The deer almost shed tears due to what they're talking about. He managed to prevent it since he didn't want Sehun to see him cry, to see him look weak and vulnerable. But nevertheless, Sehun gave his sympathy as a friend.

Yhey already finished their bubble teas yet they just continued sharing things. Sehun was amused of the things he discovered. They're like a couple of wretched orphans in some way.

"Don't worry, Sehun. We'll overcome our problems," he assured and giggled.

"I hope so. Well, thank you for being my friend. It's just a day but it's like we're close. I didn't know that I've been annoying a good friend weeks ago."

"Oh c'mon. There you are again," Luhan spoke and the brunette knew what's next.

"Let bygones be bygones!" They simultaneously said then chuckled with eyes turning into crescents.

"Uhmm... Luhan? I'd like to ask something."

"Yup. What is it?" And Sehun heaved a sigh.

     "Phew... C-can I.... Huff..."
