Loss was something Jongdae had never known, had never really experienced before, but his life gets its axis when he experiences firsthand the devastating consequences of an illness that takes away the only thing he wanted to protect: his voice.
Reeling from the knowledge of never being able to sing again, he has to look deep within himself to come to terms with the loss and what it means to be a true artist - no matter how painful and terrifying it is.
macchiato-'s note:
One of many stories I had reviewed; one of the few that received more compliments than criticism. Silent Melody managed to won me over with its plot and characters development. The overall plotline, quoted from my review, "was excellent, beautiful, heartbreaking, realistic, and definitely worth the read." It revolves around the happenings in life, the tragedy that you will encounter once in your lifetime (probably in different sort of case), blankets with the thick layers of friendship and fleeting train of individuals' thoughts.
(+): Perfect portrayal of how it feels to lose something precious, something as valuable as your life. You will be able to see the world in Jongdae's shoes, and even merge with the thoughts of the other members. Chapter five would be my favorite part, for it revealed the members' inner feelings in regard to Jongdae's illness, describing their concerns and worries and insecurity and jealousy but above them all is the bond that the twelve men was (still is) sharing. Wide range of vocabularies, perfect English. Beautifully written and very touching. Another story to make you shed a bucket of tears.
(-): Slow updates, but that's because they put a lot of thoughts and efforts in pulling the story off. The chapters are completely long so if you can't handle more than five thousand words (I guess?) Silent Melody is not your suitable choice. If you can, then there is nothing to worry about.
