What a title, isn’t it? The first time I subscribed to the story was months ago as I was captivated almost at once by the title and the luring description. I was hoping the story would not disappoint me. It did not. It is very clear that the title was set to have a literal meaning (by all means, Jongdae inhales flames and then eats the ashes), but the ending note that the writer wrote made me realize that gah, it’s a lot more than that. inhaling flames (and eating the ashes afterward) is a piece that you should not miss. How many of you love psychological fanfictions? Oh, let me re-phrase that. How many of you love psychological fanfictions with Jongdae as the main character? Here in inhaling flames (and eating the ashes afterward), you will undergo a long, dark journey with you being in Jongdae’s shoes and Chen being the one who controls the ride. I told you: it’s a piece that you should not miss.
(+): Characterization. I can’t praise aeterniti enough for the grasp on her characterization. Despite the fact that the story limits to one chapter only, she managed to pull the strings off and just, bam. The characterization of Jongdae is very strong. His motives, his insanity, his past. Everything just makes a total sense and the conveyance of his emotion is very, very well done. High range of vocabularies, peculiar writing style; definitely suits you who like dark fictions.
(-): the language used is extraordinary, so for those who seek for a light fic, this isn’t your best choice. But still, repeating again: this is a piece that you should not miss.
