Love Dust
Still Into YouA/N: Here's the longest oneshot i've ever written... Hope you can enjoy it...though it's not that much... :D
The cold breeze of December night grazed Eric’s face gently but it could not make him stop sitting on the bench along the
pavement. At such cold nights, he should have been at home or in some warm and cozy cafes or restaurants with his colleagues or
friends but still, he was sitting there alone like he did for the whole two weeks, without caring much the coldness of December.
Being near Christmas, there were couples in every direction where Eric looked, being busy with shopping for Christmas. But, among
those people walking back and forth in front of Eric’s sight, all of his attention for the past two hours was at only one person.
A tall yet slim guy with a ponytail of black hair wearing a grey long coat and black jeans was sitting on a bench at the opposite side of
Eric’s about 10 feet away. He was playing a guitar while singing with an open guitar case in front of him.
Yes. To conclude, he was a busker who played guitar and sang every night on this pavement.
Eric first saw him two weeks ago when he wandered around by his car after work and his car broke down near this area and after
calling the service, he decided to walk until the taxi stand. In the light of a street lamp and a little hazy atmosphere of December,
the guy with a ponytail sitting on the bench and playing guitar caught his sight and in the next second, Eric melted in his angelic
voice. Since that day, Eric came to this place after work and listened his singing and watched him until he went back home around 9
in the freezing cold weather.
Eric tried to follow him in his car and at last, he knew where that busker lived in. However, he had not done more than this and he
even had not known his name yet. Maybe, that busker noticed him as the guy who came to this spot and listened his singing for the
whole two weeks, not dropping any coin into his guitar case. Eric did not want to pay for his singing because he did not want to put
any price tag on his amazing voice and singing and he did not still have any gut to face him. That was why he ended up watching him
from afar every night and this night was not an exception.
Eric was being mesmerized in his singing until he felt a vibration in his pocket. He fished out his phone and saw a message from his
secretary informing the changed schedule for tomorrow. When he almost finished reading the text, he felt a shadow falling on him
and looked up only to find his busker standing in front of him, carrying his guitar case. Eric was dumbfounded until he heard him
speaking.
“Wanna have a drink with me?”
After 30 minutes later, Eric found himself at a cheap bar which was dimly lit and beside him was the busker called Shin Hyesung that
he had adored from afar until 30 minutes ago. They had not talked anything except exchanging some greetings and names since they
entered this bar. He was led to this bar by Hyesung and it seemed that Hyesung was a regular customer of this bar based on his
casual talk with the bartender. Eric had not finished his first glass of alcohol while Hyesung consumed more than 3 glasses. Hyesung
was prettier and better-looking in close distance, especially with his red nose and ears resulted by alcohol.
“What do you find interesting in me, huh?”
Eric became speechless due to a sudden direct question from Hyesung.
“Huh? What do you mean, Hyesung-shi?”
“Oh…Come on…We’re not teenagers anymore…I know where you’re heading to… You come and watch me every night in these days
and…I don’t need to be a genius to figure this out…”
“Well…. I admit that you caught my attention at first sight and well…now…”
“You’re interested in me, huh? You like watching me singing even in cold weather… Well, I guessed right…”
“Hyesung-shi…”
“You may think I’m too blunt cause I’m drunk… but actually, I’m that kind of person originally… I grew up like that and I’m living till
now like that…I write songs and make music… but my life never gives me that many chances to be poetic or romantic…”
They both became silent for a few minutes until Eric broke the ice.
“So.... If you already knew about this… what will be your answer?”
Hyesung gave him a neutral look before smirking.
“Eric-shi, I know what you want and to say the truth, I have no reason to turn you down…. Because I think I want the same thing,
too… But the problem is….”
He paused for a few seconds to pick up his glass and gulped down the remaining alcohol while Eric was giving him a questioning look.
“But the problem is…You have no idea what kind of person I am…”
Eric tried to talk but was interrupted by Hyesung.
“You have freaking no idea who I am… I’m not that naïve and simple that I seem… and I can see nothing good in the future even if
we’re together… We maybe happy for a moment or two, I guess… but in the end, we’ll walk our own ways…hurting each other and
that’s all…”
He said those words in a neutral tone and to Eric’s surprise, he could not find any bitterness or anger on Hyesung’s face. Eric had a
sudden urge to grab his hand and looked directly at his eyes. Hyesung looked flustered for a millisecond due to his sudden action but
he went back to his neutral expression without trying to free his hand from Eric’s grip.
“But we still don’t know how things will turn out, huh? Maybe we’ll find something different this time… Why won’t we try,
Hyesung-shi?”
Hyesung let out a dry chuckle and put his hand over Eric’s hand caressing the back of his hand softly.
“That’s exactly how I imagined about you… so positive and romantic… yeah… you’ll be like that… because you’ve had nothing
difficult in your life, I guess… You’re always in the bright side of life… and always think things will turn out fine if you really want
something and put your whole heart into it… but Eric-shi… life is not always what you think it ought to be…”
Eric tried to talk back and was interrupted for the second time by Hyesung.
“Don’t ask me how I know your life’s going well… Your clothes… your car… your manners… it’s not even as difficult as adding 1 and 1
to figure it out… and unlike you, I’m a dust-like person…going here and there all the time…by wind…and for your information, I don’t
believe in fairy tales where a prince and a commoner live together happily ever after…”
“How about if I can make this fairy tale true?”
Hyesung’s lips curved a little bit and he went silent for a few seconds. Then, he stared at Eric with his hazy orbs before saying,
“I’m telling these for you… not for me… I’ve got so many scars and I’m so used to being hurt… My life can’t be any harder…”
“What if I refuse your suggestion?”
Hyesung got frozen for a moment before letting out a deep sigh and removing his hand away from Eric’s hand.
“Then, I guess I’ve done my part and all you have to do is… to send me back to my apartment…”
What happened later was beyond Eric’s expectation and starting from a sloppy and short kiss from tipsy Hyesung together with his
whisper of “You can still turn back now if you want” and Eric’s reply of kissing him back, they ended up in Hyesung’s single-room
apartment revealing their desires all night. In the next morning, Eric found himself lying on the bed on the cold floor covered up by a
blanket and a thin frame of Hyesung with his loose and disheveled ponytail in his embrace and of course, both were .
Eric realized what Hyesung’s words from the previous night meant when he heard Hyesung’s reply to his question “Did I hurt you?”.
“A little bit… and never mind… I’m not even a …”
Their relationship started like that and went on by going dates and having too frequently. It was not that Eric turned into a
maniac but apart from during their activities, he rarely saw Hyesung’s affectionate expressions towards him and all he got were
his weak smiles and holding Eric’s hands once in a blue moon. That was why at least he tried to make out with Hyesung to make sure
himself that Hyesung was still for him. However, the thing that made Eric suffocated every time he thought about it was that
Hyesung never said “I Love You” to Eric although Eric let out those three words quite often.
No….He never said those three words… even in their lustful state…
However, at least Eric enjoyed every moment being with Hyesung because he knew that he still had a chance to change Hyesung’s
heart.
But their world fell apart when Eric’s parents started arranging to have Eric engaged with a decent girl from another rich family like
theirs and Hyesung happened to hear the conversation between Eric and his mom. After getting no contact from Hyesung for the
whole day, Eric went to his small apartment that had been their paradise for these months and there was only a note waiting for him
in the empty room.
“To Eric,
I told you that we maybe happy for a moment or two but in the end, we’d walk our own ways…and I think now is the time
to walk our own ways…Thank you for these past months and I was really happy because of you… Don’t feel anything for
me…Just think of me as a piece of dust that stuck on your suit for a moment and got carried away by wind… You’ll forget
me…It seems a little difficult for you at first… But believe me… You will forget me…
Goodbye…
Hyesung”
Eric broke down like hell for the first time in his life and he could not even cry because his heart was so choked up with frustration
and emptiness. The fact of how Hyesung sounded cold even in his note, how Hyesung told him to think of him as dust although he
already knew Eric’s feelings and how Hyesung believed Eric would forget him like nothing happened cut Eric’s heart so deep
whenever he thought about it.
Five years went past like that and although Eric’s life was full with marriage, divorce and his parents’ disowning him in those five
years, his already numb heart could not feel any feelings more and he spent his life working as an ordinary company staff and walking
along pavements after pavements in his free time to find a particular busker playing a guitar and singing with his angelic voice.
Eric came to the spot that he first met Hyesung after work as usual until he saw an image of a busker sitting there and playing a
guitar from afar instead of an empty bench and he started to run like hell before stopping in front of that busker and hearing the
familiar angelic voice.
Due to his shock, he even could not utter a sound on seeing again the man he had been searching for these long years and stood in
front of him like a frozen statue. Unlike him, that man in front of him even gave him his trademark weak smile after stopping playing
the guitar.
“Long time no see, Eric…”
“I’m not a prince anymore…”
These were the first words that fell out from Eric’s lips and hearing his words, Hyesung just curled up his lips a bit.
“So it’s no longer a fairy tale, I guess…”
“No…it’s not…but whatever it is…I will make it true…”
Hyesung’s lips curved a little bit in the exact same way as they had been when they first talked in that bar.
“Anyway, you didn’t believe me, Eric… cause you don’t forget me and well…I don’t forget you…I guess I’m wrong in this one…”
“I don’t mind…”
“I think I love you…”
After hearing those words from Hyesung so suddenly, Eric felt like being struck by a thunder but realized that every single tear he
had shed in these years was worth in every way.
“Wanna give a second chance to a piece of dust to stick back on your suit?”
Eric stared at Hyesung who was wearing his usual weak smile before curling up his lips and pulling Hyesung into his embrace.
“No…because I’ve never shrugged it off….”
