Chapter 7
Delusion and DignitySaturday night, Sungjong turned against his will and sided with Woohyun.
Sunday, Hoya called Sunggyu in apology, saying that he has to attend a business trip with his father so he won't be seeing Sunggyu anytime soon.
Monday, Sunggyu recieces an extravagent and expensive-looking invitation letter to Woohyun's ball that coming Friday. Sunggyu angrily throws it in the trash. Sungjong picks it back up and hangs it on their refrigerator. It drives him mad.
Tuesday, Sunggyu spots Nam ing Woohyun on his university campus, hanging around Sungjong and Sungyeol and surrounded by a hoard of girls, laughing and grinning as if he was having the time of his life.
That's it, Sunggyu thought, and he felt like punching something. This was the last straw. Now Woohyun was stealing his friends?! This is unacceptable, and before he could comprehend, Sunggyu was stomping his way up to the ugly crowd.
"What the hell is this?" Sunggyu questioned, devastated. "Sungjong, Sungyeol, get away from this bastard!"
"Hey, Sunggyu," Woohyun smirked an evil-looking smirk, one that made Sunggyu feel angrily inferior. "Want to join us?"
" no," Sunggyu hissed. "I thought this bet was between us, bastard. But you brought my friends into this, and that's totally unacceptable!"
"Hey," Woohyun raised his hands in feigned innocence. "You never clarified the rules. And besides, I can do anything I want. Right, guys?"
The girls behind him cheered and nodded and agreed. Sunggyu was feeling smaller and smaller, being pitted up against a crowd.
"We're all going to his party this Friday, Gyu," Sungyeol offered. "It'll be a lot of fun, everyone's invited. Come with us, it'll be a blast."
"No," Sunggyu growled. "No. No. No."
Sungyeol shrugged, "suit yourself."
Woohyun smirked, "Come on, guys. Let's go over there, and I'll tell you all the details of my party this Friday." He shot an evil look at Sunggyu before leaving that pissed the elder off even more.
Sungjong whooped, "Yes! Let's go!"
Sunggyu blanched, "Sungjong, have you gone mad?!"
"What?"
"T-This! H-Him!" Sunggyu stuttered. "This is Nam Woohyun you're talking about!"
"So?"
"You can't be friends with him!"
Woohyun's smirk widened.
"And are you to say who I can and can't be friends with?" Sungjong challenged.
"I don't know why Sunggyu hates me so much," Woohyun feigned ignorance. "He just hates rich people, I think."
"Sunggyu," Sungyeol said. "You can't judge people based off of the money that they make. That's discrimination."
"Guys!" Sunggyu frowned. "You can't just side with him and go against me!"
"Well, then why are you siding against him?" Sungyeol asked. "He didn't do anything wrong."
"Yes he did!"
"I can't put up with you anymore, Gyu," Sungjong finally cut in. "You judge people before you even know them. That's not cool."
"I do know Nam Woohyun."
"You do?" Sungjong asked skeptically.
"I know that he's a mean bastard."
"That sounds highly biased."
"It's true!"
Sungjong scoffed. He couldn't deal with this anymore. "Let's go, Woohyun."
Woohyun looked at Sungjong for a second, then looked at Sunggyu. His voice sounded apologetic, and only Sunggyu could see the gloating look in his eyes. "Look, Sunggyu, I know that we got off on the wrong foot, but you don't have to hate me all the time. Maybe I want a second chance, alright? I've thought this over, and...Can't we all be friends?"
ing bastard.
Before Sunggyu could comprehend, he launched himself at Woohyun, unable to controll his anger.
"You piece of !" Sunggyu screamed, aiming a punch at the other, which the man caught with a fist.
"Me?" Woohyun said incredulously, twisting Sunggyu's wrist in his grasp, pushing the older against the concrete wall behind him. "Look who's talking! You were the one who started it!"
"What!" Sunggyu shot his strongest glare down at Woohyun. Despite their slight difference in height, Sunggyu is surprised with the amount of strength Woohyun had. "I didn't do anything! You were the one who talked down on me at the ball, kicked me out at the store, and now you're stealing my friends!"
"And you were the one who crashed my ball without permission, ruined the beautiful dress of that lady, and you stole my best friend first!"
"I didn't steal him," Sunggyu huffed. "He came to me."
"You stole Howon," Woohyun shot a deathly glare at the other. "Our mothers were best friends. Howon and I became best friends before we were even born." The man grabbed a hold of Sunggyu's shirt, pulling threateningly, "And you, Kim Sunggyu, have no right to interfere with that."
"Oh, so Hoya can't have more than one friend?" Sunggyu accused. "He can only have one best friend, and his name is Nam Woohyun. Is that what you're saying?"
"Let's face it, Kim," Woohyun closed his eyes in frustration. "These days Hoya's been spending more time with you than he even does with me. What are you doing to him? Tell me the truth."
"He likes me," Sunggyu said it as if it were the most obvious thing.
Woohyun's stare suddenly bore an evil tinge. He glared threateningly at Sunggyu, their faces only centimeters apart. "Excuse me?"
"Hasn't it ever occurred to you, that maybe Howon has more fun with me than you?"
Woohyun's grip on his shirt tightened, until the point that his knuckles were visibly white. "No."
Sunggyu smirked. He was hitting the point. "It looks like you should start looking for a new best friend, Nam, because as of late, even money can't buy friendships."
That did it.
In a matter of moments, Sunggyu felt a fist in his face, spiraling his body to the concrete ground. Woohyun growled, an animalistic look in his eye. Screams and exclamations were heard around them, and only when Sunggyu looked around did he remember that their exchange had been witnessed by a crowd. Woohyun was being held back by Sungjong and Sungyeol, but that did not make Sunggyu any more proud. Sungjong was frowning at him, and Sungyeol looked at him with astonished eyes. Sunggyu didn't know what to do, what to think--was he losing his best friends right before his very own eyes? To Nam Woohyun?
"I don't want to see you, ever again," Woohyun spat before stomping away.
Sunggyu was left, on the ground, staring into space in distraught astonishment. The crowd had followed Woohyun's steps, away from Sunggyu and to God-knows where.
Sungjong and Sungyeol had followed.
Sunggyu didn't know whether he wanted to punch himself, for letting Woohyun steal his two best friends, or to punch Woohyun, for stealing them in the first place. He knew what Woohyun had felt now, to have a best friend stolen away.
And only now, did Sunggyu see what kind of game that Woohyun was putting up.
An eye for an eye. A best friend for a best friend (in Sunggyu's case though, two).
No words have been exchanged on what this was, but Sunggyu just knew. There was some unspoken game of challenge and now Sunggyu finally learned what was at stake.
If he didn't let go of Hoya, then Woohyun wasn't letting go of Sungjong and Sungyeol.
Sunggyu felt himself pitted up with a difficult situation. He liked Hoya. He also liked Sungjong and Sungyeol. He didn't want to give up any of them.
He got up from the ground, and clenched his fists.
Angrily, he punched the wall, ignorant of the pain that shot up his arm.
He ing hated Woohyun.
