You're like an angel

Yongguk kneels in the dirt, his hand sweeping against the ground.

He knows it's here.

It has to be.

He groans, wiping sweat off his brow with one hand and swiping against the walls of the hole he'd dug with the other, fingers feeling in the crumbling dirt that didn’t quite fit.

Finally, his index finger hits something hard and sharp, and he brushes away the dirt carefully, revealing a small metal object resembling a castle.

Yongguk pulls it out of the walls of the hole with a tug, his back hitting the floor of the hole from the momentum, his breath knocked out of his lungs with a huff.

“Jongup,” he says, softly, the metal slowly warming under the heat of his hand. “I’ve found the key.”

Jongup is miles away, but he hears the leader’s voice as loudly and clearly as he would have if the man had been standing right beside him.

The energy from the key flows through his body, and he raises his fist, striking the wall with a single powerful hit.

The wall cracks, the fissures flowing together to form angel wings, and Jongup leans his head against the wall—the hit had taken more out of him than he’d thought it would.

It begins to collapse from the point of impact, and Jongup’s head snaps up to see light flowing through the opening.

“Youngjae-hyung,” he calls, stepping back from the crumbling structure, “the passage has been opened.”

Youngjae wanders around the hall of mirrors, waiting for you.

He leans against a wall heavily, his fingers outstretched towards a mirror in front of him.

He needs to know that you’re there—that you’re alright.

Suddenly, the hall goes dark, a sole light remaining lit, illuminating Youngjae’s face as he stares mournfully back at his own reflection.

Almost like a trick of the light, you appear in the mirror for a moment, your fingers touching Youngjae’s reflection before he blinks and you’re gone.

“Junhong,” he murmurs, “the angel has been found.”

Junhong stands just outside the grounds to a carnival, checking his watch.

It’s almost time.

You walk up to him, slipping your hand into his, and he smiles as the two of you walk into the carnival.

“It’s been so long,” you say, as the two of you make your way around. Your eyes linger on a plush bear, and Junhong grins.

“I’ll win it for you.” He walks up to the booth and talks to the man standing behind the counter, and Junhong motions for you to sit down on a bench nearby.

You watch the people passing by, hands clasped in your lap, but no one spares you a second glance.

Junhong sits down beside you a few minutes later, placing his hand on top of yours and presenting you with the bear.

“Cute, isn’t it?”

You nod, reaching forward to take it from him, but your hand passes straight through.

Junhong’s face turns passively blank, and the expression mystifies you.

“Himchan-hyung,” he murmurs, “it didn’t work.”

Himchan breathes heavily, his gun trained on the wall of his room.

An old video of you and him together plays, projected onto the surface, and hot tears well up in his eyes, threatening to overflow.

How could it not have worked?

How could you be here, but not?

How could you leave him along again?

“Daehyun,” Himchan growls, putting the safety back on his gun and throwing it down onto the chair next to him, “you better know damn well what you’re doing.”

Daehyun watches the sands of time flow through an hourglass, his eyes pensive as he watches.

There isn’t much time left for you on this world, and they all know it.

But he’d do his damned best to keep you there for as long as he could.

He picks up the hourglass, the sands slowing from him holding it horizontally, as wings unfurl from his back.

“You’re our angel,” he muses, “but are you also our curse?”

so yeah, i'm cheating.

this teaser was pretty great if i do say so myself.
