He always walked past her.

Sunggyu loved the weather. It had finally begun to turn into spring which meant exams but it also meant summer. He always found it hard to study inside when the sun was shining so brightly outside. He sometimes became jealous of the children outside when he heard them playing.

“I hate studying,” Myungsoo groaned as he fell back.

If Sunggyu wanted to go outside, Myungsoo wanted to go out ten times more. The warm weather mixed with his distaste in academics only pushed him to want to drop his books and walk out. But Sunggyu wouldn’t let that happen. He dragged Myungsoo to the practise room and plopped him on the floor with his history textbooks.

“You’ve said that already,” Sunggyu pointed out as he flipped a page of his notebook.

“Because it’s true, Hyung.”

Sunggyu didn’t reply and just continued reading through his notes. He had almost finished studying for all his exams being the studious person he is. He planned on finishing that Sunday so that he would review for the following week.

“How about we take a break?” Myungsoo suggested. “Let’s go to the bakery.”

Sunggyu bookmarked his notebook before closing it, “Fine.”

The two men walked to the nearby bakery and waved to the elderly lady when they entered. There were a couple of people seated here and there, enjoying their baked goods. Sunggyu and Myungsoo could feel their stomachs all of a sudden empty out when they smelled the delicious food.

“Hello, Mrs. Choi,” Sunggyu smiled when he and Myungsoo got to the counter.

“Hello, boys!”

“How are you?” Myungsoo asked.

“I’m fine, thank you” She giggled. “How are you two doing?”

“I’m fine as well,” Sunggyu smiled.

“I’m not,” Myungsoo grumbled. “Studying is no fun.”

Mrs. Choi smiled, “It’s hard, isn’t it? Well, lucky for you two, I made some delicious tarts today. I’ll get them out.”

Sunggyu and Myungsoo took the plate of tarts and sat down at their favourite seat.  It was located near the back wall of pictures. When they were bored, they would look at the pictures and make comments on each. Their favourite was the one of them and their Grandmother. It was taken on the opening day of the restaurant.

Mrs. Choi was friends with Sunggyu’s Grandmother. The two had gone to school together and remained close friends through their adult years.

Mrs. Choi had always wanted to open up a bakery. She was unable to do so when she first married Mr. Choi because they were having financial troubles. So, they waited until their children were older and when her youngest son turned twenty, they opened up the bakery with him. He had always enjoyed baking so it all worked out perfectly.

“We should come here with Grandma again,” Myungsoo pointed out.

Sunggyu nodded his head, “We’ll come when school’s over. She hasn’t seen Mrs. Choi in a while now.”

The two filled their stomachs before thanking Mrs. Choi and leaving. Sunggyu began walking back to the room to study some more but Myungsoo just trailed behind him slowly, not wanting to go. Knowing Sunggyu would force him to read through his textbooks, he tried to think of an excuse to stay outside.

“Hyung!” Myungsoo blurted out. “I need to go to the bookstore.”

Sunggyu furrowed his eyebrows, “Why?”

“I need to buy a book. My professor told us to read through it for the exam,” Myungsoo said, trying to give Sunggyu the most convincing look he had.

“Are you lying to me?”

“No.”

Sunggyu gave Myungsoo his older brother look, not sure whether he should believe Myungsoo or not. He walked up to the younger one and looked him straight in the eye. Myungsoo was beginning to get a bit nervous but he kept his eyes set on Sunggyu’s as well. He had always been told that his eyes were fierce and powerful.

“Fine.”

Myungsoo silently cheered as the two walked down the street. The bookstore was quite far so that meant the two would be able to enjoy the weat
