On Rainy Days

A/N: Another flashback chapter... Mostly a filler but it's pretty important, I guess.

"See you tomorrow," Jihyo waved goodbye to Joon as she walked through her front door.

After greeting her parents, she skipped happily up the stairs to her bedroom. Walking in and closing the door quietly, she smiled to herself as the day's events lingered in her mind. She walked towards her desk to put her backpack down but paused momentarily after passing the full-length mirror that stood in her room. Walking back to stand in front of the mirror, her smile grew wider as she glanced at the necklace she was now wearing. She walked closer to the mirror, lifting a hand up to the heart charm shining in the light.

As if she just remembered, she walked to her desk and put her bag down, opening it and pulling out a small jewellery box. She opened it and took out the piece of paper inside that was folded up neatly to fit inside the box. Her heart pounding faster, she unfolded the paper and smoothed it out on the desk in front of her before she began to read it.

Dear Jihyo,

I know this probably seems like a very cowardly way to give you a present, but I couldn't think of another way...

I'm not sure how to say this... I just wanted to tell you that you have a really amazing beautiful smile. and I think you're the most amazing girl in the whole school

If you ever need a friend to talk to, I'll be here. for you

Not that I'm saying you don't have any friends... I just... thought you might want to know that.

Anyway, I hope you'll accept this present as a and that you'll like it. I think that it will look pretty on you.

Yours,

Yong Junhyung

Jihyo couldn't help but giggle to herself as she read the letter. It was full of scribbles, evidently where he had crossed out things he'd written but didn't want to keep. Jihyo wondered if he realised she could still see everything he'd written. That boy...

Jihyo walked over to her bed, still clutching the letter in her hands, and laid down on her back. She smiled. Her heart was fluttering as she read every word he'd written. She thought back to when she picked the box off the classroom floor earlier that day.

She had watched Junhyung leave the classroom in a hurry as the small box fell on the floor near the door. She had picked it up, thinking that he must have dropped it when she saw he had written "To: Kim Jihyo" on the box. There was only one Kim Jihyo in their school, and that was her. When Joon asked her what she was doing, standing in the doorway staring at the box, she shoved it in her bag and muttered "nothing" before dragging him to the canteen to eat lunch together. After lunch, she made her way to the library where she knew she could find him. Approaching him out of the blue had obviously shocked him, especially when she pulled out the small box and asked him about it.

Jihyo smiled as she remembered his reaction, his awkward expression with his eyes wide open behind those black thick-rimmed glasses. She swore he had turned a light shade of pink as she spoke to him. She giggled again as she remembered him fastening the necklace around her neck, sending shivers down her spine as his fingers brushed against her skin. She had fought her body hard to resist the urge to squirm as the tingles ran down her back.

Yong Junhyung.

He was an odd kid, Jihyo had decided ever since their first year in high school together. He was a typical nerd, shy and quiet with hardly any friends but Jihyo had always found him extremely good-looking, even behind those glasses. She remembered when she first noticed him in their classroom. She had looked up, made eye contact with him and smiled, noticing that he was staring at her. When he realised she was looking at him, he quickly averted his gaze, blushing slightly and looking around awkwardly. Ever since then, Jihyo realised that he stared at her quite alot. Each time she caught him, she would smile at him but he always looked away. She was confused at first, she was only being friendly but he wasn't returning it. Why was he being like that?

It wasn't until last year though, when Jihyo finally put two and two together. He liked her.

Jihyo still remembered that moment she pieced things together, her heart fluttered just like it was fluttering now. She hadn't treated him any differently than she used to, but she promised herself that in their last year, she would confront him about it if he didn't do anything about it.

'Guess there's no need for me to do that anymore,' she smiled to herself again.

***

Around a week later, Jihyo walked up to Junhyung's desk and placed a medium-sized box in front of him. He looked up to see her smiling down at him. She winked at him before turning away and walking back to her own desk. Confused, Junhyung glanced at her again before staring at the box in front of him. Slowly, he reached forwards and opened it. Inside, were handmade chocolates and a paper folded in half balanced on top. He took the paper out before replacing the lid on the box.

Yong Junhyung,

Take these as a thank you present for the necklace keke ^^
Meet me in the library at lunch, I have something to tell you~

Yours,
Kim Jihyo ^-^

Junhyung stared at her writing on paper. His heart beat faster as he read each word. He turned his head to look over his shoulder shyly. Jihyo, who was watching his reaction to the letter, smiled sweetly back at him. This time, he didn't look away, he returned the smile. It was the first time Jihyo had seen him smile.

Just then, the teacher entered the classroom and Junhyung quickly put the letter and chocolates in his desk, facing the front again. The lesson passed slowly, each ticking minute felt like an hour to Junhyung. When the lesson finally finished, he walked to the canteen and finished his lunch quickly before retreating to the library again. He sat in his usual spot, fidgeting as his nerves got the better of him.

He waited for less than five minutes before Jihyo walked in and went to find him in the corner of the room. She greeted him shyly as she approached him and sat down next to him. They sat in silence for a few moments before Junhyung spoke.

"Th-thank you for the chocolates," Junhyung said quietly.

Jihyo giggled. "You're welcome."

Junhyung turned to face her, taking in the details of her pretty face. Jihyo looked around and up at him, staring into his chocolate brown eyes, and smiled at him.

"You... You wanted to tell... tell me something?" Junhyung mustered his courage to ask.

"I read your letter," Jihyo smiled at him as he looked away, slightly embarrassed. "It was really sweet... It made me smile."

Junhyung couldn't help but smile a little. He was glad she reacted that way.

"So I just wanted to say..." Jihyo continued watching him carefully. "I like you."

Jihyo leaned forward and kissed him on the cheek lightly. Junhyung froze at the sudden touch and blushed. Jihyo smiled and pressed a piece of paper into his hand before standing up. She giggled softly at him again and disappeared out of the library within moments. Junhyung blinked. Did that really just happen?

He blinked a few more times before returning fully back to real life again. Noticing the paper in his hand, he unfolded it to find a series of numbers and Jihyo's writing next to it:

Call me... oppa ^^

Later that night, he did.

They talked for 2 hours on the phone non-stop. It started awkwardly, Junhyung wasn't sure what he was supposed to say to her but thankfully, Jihyo was completely herself and talked to him naturally. They got to know each other more as they talked about their interests and lives. Although he didn't want to end the call, by the time it reached midnight, Junhyung insisted she needed sleep. That night, they both slept with the biggest smiles on their faces. That night was the start of a new love story. That night was the start of their love story.

***

Half a year later, Jihyo and Junhyung were inseparable. The only time they weren't together was when Jihyo was hanging out with Joon on her own, but even that didn't happen much. The three hung out together, but Jihyo was closest to both of them. It was pretty evident that Junhyung and Joon were never going to become best friends like they were to her but she didn't mind, as long as they got along and didn't fight, she was happy enough. She couldn't force them to like each other.

During that time, the couple had gone through a lot. Junhyung changed a lot as a person, he became more confident in himself, more outgoing and opened up. He became more friendly and through Jihyo, had met a lot of new friends. Everyone's perspectives of him had changed. Most of all, he was happy. Junhyung was no longer the "shy, nerdy kid", he was the "friendly, good-looking kid" and everyone around him could see the difference Jihyo had brought.

Tonight, Jihyo was spending time with Junhyung at the park. They usually spent their nights like this, casual dates that didn't require much effort or money but nonetheless, perfect and romantic enough for Jihyo.

Junhyung wrapped his arms around Jihyo's waist and hugged her from behind. He rested his head on her shoulder as they gazed up at the sky together.

"I love you," he whispered to her.

Jihyo giggled as his warm breath tickled her ear. She turned around in his arms to face him, wrapping her hands around his neck and kissed him lightly on the lips.

"I love you too," she replied, smiling up at him.

Junhyung smiled back and turned her around so they could look at the stars in the sky again. Jihyo put her hand on his, lacing their fingers together.

"Tell me the constellations again," Jihyo said.

Junhyung smiled. He lifted a hand and pointed out the stars in the sky, tracing the shapes with his fingers as he named the constellations. Jihyo watched intently, amazed by his knowledge and memory as usual. She leant backwards slightly into Junhyung, causing him to wrap his arm around her tighter. She wished she could spend every night like this, in Junhyung's arms, listening to his deep voice and staring at the stars above them. It was perfect, he was perfect... They were perfect together.
