Under That Smile
An Angel In My WorldYou didn’t know how long you slept, but when you woke up, you find yourself back in the bedroom, this time you weren’t on Suho’s bed since there was no books on this bed. A guitar leaned against the wall in the bed and your thoughts immediately lingered to Lay. *Is it unicorn ge’s bed…?* you wondered as you looked around, the boys were all sleeping peacefully and your eyes struggled to keep open.
You looked down at the sofas and found a figure sleeping discontentedly on it. You carefully calm down, trying to make as least sound as possible, yet as soon as your feet touched the ladder a hand held your ankle. You gripped onto the railings tightly, afraid of falling.
“Hyeeun…? A raspy voice called out.
You opened one eye to find Chen sitting up on his bed and his hand wrapped delicately around your ankle.
‘Chen’ you mouthed, yet it was hard for the both of you to see each other in the dark. Since Chen didn’t seem like he got what you said, you ascended down the stairs and stood in front of Chen’s bed.
‘Where’s Lay ge?’ you asked, looking straight into Chen’s eyes.
“He’s-“ Chen started when he saw Lay sitting up on the couch, “Over there” he finished.
You followed his gaze, *I knew it! Lay ge slept in the couch for me* you frowned, reaching out and trying your best to have light footsteps are you approached Lay.
Lay turned around and looked at you with wide eyes that can be compared to golf balls. “Hyeeun…” he manage to slip out.
You didn’t know what to do, it’s unlikely for Lay to see the movements of your lips nor for you to write in the dark. In these times that you wish you had a voice. Well you do, you just don’t use it. Won’t use it. Can’t use it. Your parents assumed that it was gone for good but at times, your voice would pop out of nowhere.
*I can’t always hide… I don’t want to hide* with all your willpower and courage you opened your mouth. “…l-lay.”
Lay’s eyes widened as he heard your soft voice for the first time. *Am I dreaming?* Lay looked straight at your eyes, drilling into your soul.
You tried to say more, but your voice disappeared again, with a sigh, you took Lay’s hand and pulled him up. Lay, feeling confused, followed your lead as you carefully helped him up the stairs.
Just as you were going to step on the mattress, Lay piped up. “You- spoke…” he mumbled, still in the depths of shock.
You turned around and gave him a gentle smile. *I should’ve tried harder… next time I’ll say more than one word Lay ge*

You were walking home alone after departing with some friends, “Hmm, I wonder what umma will cook today” you smiled happily and skipped along the road. The sun was setting yet your happy mood was still in check, you were just a little kid at that time. A careless, clumsy one.
“Hey there little girl” a voice called out to you.
Once you turned around, you find yourself being surrounded by a group of buff men. You blinked at them daringly as they stared down at you, “Nee?”.
“We oppas here would like to treat you some ice cream” they snickered, looking at each other.
You felt something bad will happen from the pits of your stomach. Your little legs started running, wherever it’ll take you, you’ll run. The men started running after you and when you weren’t looking, they caught you by the hair and forced you into a black van.
You cried out in hysteria, your voice strained because of the sudden use. “LET ME GO” you screamed, feeling tears run down your face.
“Tch, she’s so noisy” one of the guys mutter as they reached out to put some handkerchief on you.
Just as the hand reached out, you bit it hard, earning a slap across the cheeks. One of the guys pulled your hair harshly as you winced, trying to hold back your sobs. Your pain was entangled with fear and panic. You twisted out of the man’s grip and kicked the car door open. As soon as it was, you ran as fast as possible, not caring that you were covered with bruise and your hair were full fumbled up. *Umma, appa, where are you* you whimpered, looking around the stop light.
You glanced back and saw the men running after you at top speed, you ran even though the stop light says otherwise.
A car came rushing your way as you stopped in shock and stared at it with horror. The car honked at you yet your feet was glued to the ground, “S-STOP” that was the last thing you remember before your vision turn black and you felt liquid drop down the sides of your face and you choked to inhale air.
You tried to say something but all that came out was croaks and coughs. T
