The last thing Kyuhyun remembers before blacking out was the talk show host asking him if he had someone special back home. A trivial question, really. He’ll just give his rehearsed “I’m too busy with my career to have a special someone” answer. But given the circumstances, it was just too much for him to bear. Then his body burnt out.

When the maknae came to, he was staring straight at a familiar white ceiling. He was in their bedroom. It was dark outside because it was raining. He could hear the droplets of rain hitting the window. He could see the dull pink color of Sungmin’s clothes. He could hear the soft thuds of footsteps from the corridor. It’s normal.

But it feels empty.

Something was missing. Then he remembers those almond shaped eyes that turn to crescents when he smiles. The feel of those silky strands of hair that suits any color may it be black, to brown, to blonde, to red and even bright pink. Those hands that feel so perfect intertwined with his. Like puzzle pieces that were made for each other; those hands that held his heart; the way his heart skips a beat whenever he hears that husky voice laugh, sing, talk or call him “Brat”; that voice which always says “I love you”.

All of it is gone, or rather, it never existed.

Jongwoon is gone.

Kyuhyun feels wetness on the sides of his face. He didn’t even notice that he was crying. He tries to get up. But his body feels too heavy. He tries to wipe away the tears that are forming at the sides of his eyes. But to no avail. So he lets them flow. It’s like getting a part of you taken away. It’s supposed to hurt but it doesn’t. Or maybe the pain is too much for the mind to comprehend that the pain became numb instead.

The maknae’s train of thought was broken when he heard the doorknob turning. Sungmin came in to check up on him. He could only stare at his roommate’s approaching figure. No words were said, but the looks in their eyes were enough. He took a seat beside Kyuhyun’s bed and began reading a book while slowly rubbing the maknae’s head. With Jongwoon still in his mind, sleep claims Kyuhyun once again.

When the maknae came to, there was no more rain. The room was once again the lively room it used to be. Back was the vibrantly pink side of Sungmin’s room, the hustle and bustle of the world outside his room, and the flurry of activity made by his brothers in the living room.

It feels like the world was moving on. But he can’t. It’s impossible.

He got up from the bed and slowly walked out of the room to proceed with his morning ritual. He smelled like he hasn’t taken a bath in days. After that, he was almost tackled to the floor by an excited Donghae who was very happy to see him up again. Then he was brought to the kitchen where Sungmin was the one who was making breakfast since Ryeowook had is schedule today.

“Oh? You’re up. How are you feeling today?” Sungmin asks his roommate.

“It’s like I got hit by a truck. What happened to me hyung?” Kyuhyun’s answers while drinking coffee.

From behind, Sungmin noticed the weird look Donghae was giving him. Sungmin tried to be careful in choosing the words that he was going to use. He thinks that for now, anything related to Jongwoon was off limits until Kyuhyun is ready.

“You fainted while you were on set. You were sent to the hospital. The doctor said it was because of fatigue. And then you were sent home.”

“How long was I out?” The maknae asked.

“You were in bed for three days.”

“Oh, no wonder I smelled like that.” The maknae said as an afterthought.

The rest of their breakfast was spent telling Kyuhyun about all the things that happened while he was out, his leave from work, and reading text emails and text messages from his friends wishing him to get well soon.

By lunch time, when the maknae arrived, he was excited to see his best friend up and running again; though at times he can still see sadness from the maknae’s eyes. But that’s understandable. And he’s going to do everything he can to help his friend. He immediately went to the kitchen to make food because he noticed that most of his hyungs were already home. A lot of hungry beasts were in the house. Of course, he went and cooked the maknae’s favorite foods, pork chops and seafood.

It was still scarring for the eternal maknae to remember how his hyungs devoured the food.

After lunch, most of them went out to different activities. Shindong went to the gym, Donghae and Eunhyuk went to shop, and Heechul went upstairs to play with Champagne and Heebum. The only people left at the dorms were Kangin, Sungmin, Ryeowook and Kyuhyun.

“So, how are you feeling today?” Kangin asks the maknae while they were waiting for the other two to finish cleaning up.

“I’m fine hyung. I just need rest. That’s all.” Kyuhyun smiles; reassuring his hyung.

After that, Kangin did not ask any more questions; satisfied that his dongsaeng is doing fine. However, Sungmin feels that something was off with the maknae. He might’ve been distracted by Kangin but right now the maknae that is in front of them is not the same as he is before. The smile that was there was a different smile.

It was fake.

It was hollow.

It was sad.

Kim Ryeowook is a patient person;

He’s always believed that everything will fall into place eventually, that he just has to make the right moves and wait. That was how he was able to become as famous as he is now. He trained hard when he was in school, and he joined competitions nonstop until he was found by SM. Even as a trainee he still did what he had to do, trained and improved until he debuted in Super Junior.

Kim Ryeowook is also a selfish person;

He was the type of person who would rather win by default than by actually winning on a one on one battle. It’s not that he didn’t have confidence in his talent; it’s just that he never liked competing because he was scared of losing. For years before he debuted, he did everything in his power to win. Because whatever he wants, he will get. So as long as he makes the right moves and wait.

Kim Ryeowook was in love;

Six years ago he laid his eyes on one of the most fascinating people he’s ever going to meet in his whole life. Cho Kyuhyun was his name. He watched the boy amaze people with his voice, making him fall in love even harder. A year later He saw the love of his life in the hospital bed, in a comatose state, fighting for his life. He wanted to be there with him but somebody beat him to the chase.

Kim Jongwoon.

It was supposed to be him that’s beside Kyuhyun the whole time. It was supposed to be him that Kyuhyun first sees when he wakes up. It was supposed to be him that Kyuhyun was going to fall in love with; not Jongwoon. But he was the one there; and they fell in love.

Ryeowook was inside his room; actually it was his and Jongwoon’s room. He lies in his bed looking at the white ceiling, thinking. He's had the habit of mindlessly looking at the ceiling when he’s resting. It’s like a blank canvas where he could see his thoughts. He was thinking about what happened this past week. About how did his one wish that night make Jongwoon disappear.

Well, not disappear, exactly.

It was like he never debuted, and was never part of their life.  

Remembering the look of abandonment in his dongsaeng’s face was very saddening. But it will pass eventually. Once he gets over and forgets Yesung, he’ll be able to smile again like he used to. He doesn’t know how it happened but at last Kim Jongwoon is gone. He himself doesn’t know what is happening right now to his hyung; but frankly, he doesn’t care. After all those years of seeing Kyuhyun in someone else’s arms; after all the years of hurt and pain; at last the root of all his heartaches was gone and Kyuhyun is going to love him now.

It’s his turn now.

All he has to do is make the right moves and wait.
