Word spreads fast

Life is a game but this isn't

College night.  In Sung-hee’s opinion the worst night of the week.  Every Thursday a bunch of overly stressed students came in with barely enough money for the endless drinks they would intake and practically have on the dance floor.  Not to mention the lack of tips and how many times she’d catch some depraved boy checking her out.  Granted if she wasn’t taken she’d take the looks as a compliment that is until she noticed almost all of them would be drunk.  A few months ago you would be right out there partying with them and you know it.  Though she had finally moved past that stage of her life she had to admit at times the random urge would reappear.  It was never strong enough for her to actually pursue but it was there. Especially lately with her father running amuck and doing god knows what.

Now that she thought about it though, she hadn’t seen even a hair of her father since she returned from Japan.  The first few days she thought he had given up but she realized quickly that he never gave up.  Just like in the court battles he would fight to get what he wanted until he couldn’t fight anymore.  Somehow not seeing him nearly every day was scarier than actually seeing him.  She didn’t know what he was planning, if he was planning anything and there was no telling if and when he came back.  A small part of her almost worried if he was dead by what she assumed to be the people he was running from.  But if he was why did she feel no regret on the matter?  Shaking the undesirable thought and flashbacks away she turned back to the cosmos she was making for three girls.

The three girls of course were with boys that Sung-hee assumed or rather hoped where their boyfriends.  Especially the purple haired one, she had been playing tonsil hockey at the bar for the past ten minutes.  Once again the three paid for their drinks and closed out their tab.  Sung-hee knew they would be back though no matter how many times they said this would be their last drink.  The courteous smile on face turned genuine as Hip Song came on, it had been her happy song for a couple of weeks now.  On the flight back from Japan about a week and a half ago she had listened to it almost the entire time since Thunder had fallen asleep on her.

Humming and swaying to the beat she filled a few more orders letting her guard down a bit as she enjoyed herself.  Usually she was reserved behind the bar wanting to focus on the job and make good impressions but tonight for some reason she felt different.  Swaying to the beat she wasn’t too surprised when the boy that had been with the purpled haired one came up.  “Four waters.”  He held up four fingers and usually Sung-hee would be annoyed with the informal language and snide tone but she was too busy swaying.  Nodding she pulled out four glasses and the drink hose focusing on the water, not the way the boy was looking at her.

“Here you are.”  She put the waters on the counter and headed to the next customer noticing the shocked expression on his face out of the corner of her eye.  Not thinking too much on it she got another beer for a customer.  It was getting to that time that they were starting to get too drunk or were running out of money and Sung-hee was grateful her feet really were starting to kill her.

She closed two more tabs before the bar became relatively empty and she took the chance to pull the stool she had stashed off in the corner and took a seat.  Glancing around the flashing lights were starting to bother her eyes a little but at least they didn’t give her ha headache anymore.  Just when she was finally getting feeling back in her feet the same boy came up again.  “Want another drink?”  She asked over the music.  He shook his head and gave her a seductive smirk which automatically told her what the boy wanted.  Really?  This again?  Really?  It wasn’t like the occasional drunk didn’t hit on her she expected that but when it was a boy that was clearly supposed to be with someone else it pissed her off.  Especially considering her past experiences in the matter.  “Well what do you want then?”

He raised a brow and propped his elbows up on the counter leaning in so his face was closer to hers and in return she moved back a little disgusted by his stench.  Alcohol didn’t smell as nice as it once did.  “To talk?”

Sung-hee nearly laughed at that, the club wasn’t a place for talking in her opinion.  You came to a club to drink and find someone who wanted to have with their clothes on while on the dance floor.  To Sung-hee at least that’s how the dancing looked sometimes.  “I don’t think so.  Go back and face with your girl I’m busy.”  Her tone was firm as she slid off the stool and took a step away from the boy who refused to move.

“You don’t look that busy to me.”

Ignoring him wasn’t that hard the music was loud and as soon as she was a few feet away she couldn’t even hear him anymore.  Though she could still see him trying to get her attention she took her time with other customers completely ignoring the existence of the other boy.  He still didn’t seem to get the hint and just when she was about to snap and spray him with soda his purple haired girlfriend came up.  Slamming her hand on the counter she practically screamed to get Sung-hee’s attention.

Eye twitching Sung-hee gripped the drink hose, wishing she could ruin that expensive dress with a little Coke she stepped over with a slightly raised brow.  “Yes?”  Normally she would use formal language and be much more polite but her good mood had disappeared.

“My boyfriend has been waiting for like twenty minutes get his drink!”  Clearly she wasn’t pleased and thought that Sung-hee had wronged her boyfriend.  Of course Sung-hee would assume the same thing and she could be the overprotective type but typically she didn’t look like she wanted to rip off the bartenders face.  Or at least she hoped so.  Sung-hee wanted to tell her that her boyfriend was a and didn’t deserve the time of day but she promised Blaise no more interfering with others affairs.

With a small sigh she turned her attention to the male, “What can I get cha?”  She tried to look apologetic for ignoring him.

“How about a on the beach?”  The suggestive wiggle of his brow and the smirk on his face nearly made her laugh, how was it that boys thought just because she was a bartender she was easy?

Nodding she glanced at the girlfriend before bending down to grab the needed glass.  “There you go and hurry back babe.”  Sung-hee knew the girl was speaking extra loud on purpose to try and draw Sung-hee’s attention to them.  Too bad your boyfriend is a you sure can pick them huh?  What is it with us girls always picking the worst guys?  She glanced up from making her drink to find the pair making out and grimaced.  Okay he’s not attractive and I think I’m going to lose my dinner if they keep that up.  The same thing she felt every time she saw a couple making out at the bar.  Grumbling a little she continued to mix the drink contemplating on if she should spit into it.

Finally when she saw that he was once again alone she handed him the drink.  “One on the beach.  That’ll be,” She paused for a minute trying to remember the price before he handed her a credit card, “well that works to.”  Snatching the card she turned to the computer screen which, unfortunately, was right by where he was.

“Though you know, I was thinking a different on the beach.”  Don’t hit him whatever you do don’t hit him.  “Maybe you could help me out with that?”  Okay maybe just a little smack I don’t think that would hurt right?  Just a little one.  Handing him back the credit card she raised a brow at him and motioned for him to come closer.

He did so eagerly and she smirked as she leaned closer as well.  “I don’t think so.  Now go back to your girlfriend before I do something I’ll regret.”  Before he could respond she turned with a smirk and moved onto organizing the bar before she got another customer.  About half a minute later she turned to find the girl dragging him back to the dance floor and she breathed a sigh of relief.

For the next hour business went on as usual and the girl came up instead to get drinks with her boyfriend though he looked rather sour.  Sung-hee couldn’t help but be pleased and her mood lifted once more and she had all but forgotten about the incident.

At exactly two her phone vibrated and Kibum appeared ready to take on the last shift.  He typically worked during the day and then would take the last couple of hours so Sung-hee and Alexander, the other bartender, could rest up for their own shifts.  He had actually trained both of them since he had been working at Escape for nearly five years now.  Smiling she waved at him before transferring the tabs to his account number and checked the register.

“Kiddo you work too hard I spotted those dark circles from across the room!”  Kibum spoke loudly as he slipped behind the bar a cheeky grin on his lips.  He loved teasing Sung-hee and Alexander to no end though they were both getting more and more unresponsive to his words.  Which Sung-hee felt in a way was his intention for some odd reason.

“And I could smell your cologne yuck!”  She grinned and poked his shoulder, “You’re not gonna get lucky tonight with that shirt.” Her teasing grin grew wider as he looked down at his dark purple shirt with a small frown.

“I’ll have you know this shirt charms the ladies.  Charms them I say.”

Faking a disgusted look she crinkled her nose and shook her head before moving out from behind the bar.  “Gross just gross.”

“You know you want some!”

She laughed and pretended that she couldn’t hear him over the loud music before waving and turning to leave. Avoiding the main traffic wasn’t too hard, she was actually getting pretty good at it and within a few minutes she was almost outside.  Her advance halted when someone suddenly grabbed her wrist trying to pull her back.  Without a second thought she spun around, palm raised and smacked the offender right on the cheek.  Actually looking now she found it was the same boy that hit on her before.  “You really don’t give up do you?”  Hissing she reached up and smacked his other cheek even harder ignoring the angry look in his eyes and the scowl on his lips.

If he wasn’t drunk and she didn’t know how that could seriously impair fighting ability she would have been scared.  Of course knowing Tae Kwon Do didn’t hurt her confidence either.  Before the boy could respond and before Sung-hee could turn to leave a palm slammed against her cheek.  Stumbling back she grabbed the affected area and turned to glare at the now huffing and puffing girlfriend.  “What the hell are you doing to my boyfriend?!”  Since they were the back of the club hearing was a lot easier than before and the shout actually hurt Sung-hee’s ears just a bit since she was right by her head.

Glaring darkly Sung-hee rubbed her cheek and shook her head.  “If you should be smacking anyone it should be your boyfriend.”  Just the hint of whining lined her voice as she straightened up and spoke.

If Sung-hee wasn’t so annoyed the other girl’s expression would have made her laugh and the boy would have made her die laughing he looked so nervous and confused at the same time.  Sanghyun’s right being the sober one is more fun.  “Excuse me?!”  The purple haired girl took a threatening step forward and pushed Sung-hee back just a bit.

With a raised brow Sung-hee straightened up and finally gave into the anger that had been bubbling all night.  Closing the space between them she got right in the slightly younger girl’s face a dark scowl on her lips and fire in her eyes.  “You heard me.”

For a split second Sung-hee spotted fear in the other girl’s eyes before she straightened up trying to use the height of her heels to her advantage.  “You’ve been awful all night I’m so telling your manager.”

My manager?  My manager really?  How long will it take for people to realize I don’t care?  As much as she loved working here and being able to see the boys every other Saturday for a little while a little girl complaining to her manager wasn’t going to kill her.  If anything he’d probably laugh it off since he knew how Sung-hee could be.  Though he did try and keep her on her best behavior sometimes she just had to snap.  And unless this girl was the daughter of someone that could cause the club trouble Blaise would not give a rat’s .

With a laugh, almost an unimpressed scoff, Sung-hee stepped back shaking her head and shoved her hands into her pockets resisting the tingling desire to slap the smug look off the girl’s face.  “And look at all the s I don’t give.”

“You’re going to-”

Scoffing Sung-hee cut her off, “Regret it I know.” She waved her off dismissively with a small roll of her eyes, “You’re just pissy you can’t keep your boyfriend in check and I really don’t have time for this.”  Before anything else could be said Sung-hee her heel and marched out of the club half surprised that the girl didn’t follow her.

The outside world sounded dull in comparison to the club and even the summer thickness that still hung in the air seemed cool and refreshing against her hot skin.  Sighing she waited at the bus stop impatiently, wanting to just go home and curl into bed.  For now she was too worked up to go to sleep but at least she’d be able to rest, resting would be nice.  Looking through her phone she read a few messages one from Hyo, yah! Why haven’t you texted me today? T.T. One from Mir noona you should come make your pancakes ^^.  And two from Thunder, ignore Mir he’s being lazy, she couldn’t help but laugh at that one before going to the next, we’re nearly done with our album!  Manager hyung says I can see you soon <3. With the cheesiest grin on her face she responded to each.

I’ve been busy today oppa I’ll call you in the morning! xoxo

Noona is very tired but I’ll make you pancakes soon <3

Work hard and rest first you need to not be a night owl like me :P

As she pocketed her phone once more out of the corner of her eye she saw a familiar figure down the street.  Thinking at first it was Hyo by the stature she didn’t pay attention to the bus as it pulled up to the curb.  Squinting a little she tried to make out if it was her brother or not before she called out to him and made a fool of herself.  Just as she was about to call out to the person the driver whistled at her.  Startled she turned to him.  “Are you getting on or not?”

“What?  Oh erm yes.”  She bowed to the driver and tossed her money in the box before taking the seat at the front of the bus.  Looking through the grime covered window she looked for the person again, still intent on finding out whom it was.  The second the bus passed by though she ducked her head down and covered her face hoping, more like praying he hadn’t noticed her.  Just when I was wondering where he went.  Did he know that I was at Escape?  Was he coming to see me?  What does he want anyway?  Has Hyo talked to him?  He probably has but if he has then why is he still here?  With a flushed face she sat back up ignoring the odd look she received from the person next to her and sighed.  When her phone buzzed again she nearly jumped out of her skin.  Flipping it open she managed a small smile seeing Thunder’s name.  Too late for that and you know it :P

It took her a moment to remember what she said to him before she decided to respond.  Okay fine but you still need rest

I’ll rest at your house ^^

Aish stubborn boy fine rest at my house :P I’m watching harry potter then

I’ll bring popcorn!!

Have I mentioned that I love you?  Because I really do.

You’ve mentioned it once or twice <3

They continued to text for a while discussing when he would be able to get a day off for a Harry Potter marathon at her house.  They decided that next weekend they both would have Thursday off so it would be the perfect time to have the marathon.  Thunder was to provide the popcorn and, in her words, squishy pillow self and Sung-hee would provide comfy pillows, candy and drinks.  All of which she already had at home.  By the time that Sung-hee reached her apartment they had moved on to talking about their favorite part of the movie and which house they thought they’d be in.  Thunder was convinced Sung-hee would be in Gryffindor despite how much she denied it.

By the time she reached her apartment and got in her pajamas they had both decided that they’d be terrible at potions and would fall asleep in history of magic class.  Sung-hee had subtly hinted she wanted to go see the last movie when it came out and she couldn’t help but wonder if he caught it or not.  Just as she laid down in bed Thunder informed her he had to go back to recording and promised to call her the next day.  She of course didn’t mind and assured him that she was about to pass out anyway.  And pass out she did moments after she closed out of her messages she curled up in the blankets and let her heavy eyes finally close.

Her reprieve didn’t last long.  What felt like seconds later, her phone was buzzing obnoxiously, grumbling she put her pillow over her head trying unsuccessfully to drown out the noise.  But the buzzing continued and after the third consecutive time she finally picked up with a growl.  “What?”

“Park what in the world did you do at work today?”

Sighing she fell back into bed and groaned.  “Delphine its four am can I please go to sleep?”

Shuffling was heard on the other end and Delphine clicked her tongue a few times.  “When you tell me why this girl on my tumblr is ranting about some bartender at Escape.  Do I have to go beat a scrawny girl’s ?”  The seriousness of Delphine’s tone actually worried Sung-hee a little bit never had she seen the girl get worked up over something like this before.

Eyes wide Sung-hee shot up from her position on the bed nearly throwing off the covers to stand before realizing she was too tired for that.  While she knew that the girl would try and pull something she didn’t think she’d spread something that like around that really would get Sung-hee in a lot of trouble.  But something bothered her more at the moment.  “Wait ew you have that purple haired girl on your tumblr?”

“Ehh she feeds my love for Dalmatian.”

Sung-hee grimaced and shook her head, “Gross.  Delete her.”

“No way, she’s got the best GIFs but I will find her and beat her if you tell me to.”

A groan parted Sung-hee’s lips and she rubbed her hand over her face trying to focus enough to calm her best friend down.  “Not worth the time.  She was just pissy cause she thought I was being rude to her boy toy though he was trying to get into my pants.”

There was a long pause before Delphine clicked her tongue once again.  “Rude.”

Unconsciously Sung-hee nodded, “Pretty much.”

Finally Delphine let out a small laugh and Sung-hee heard shuffling once again and she could have sworn she heard Delphine typing away on her laptop.  “And you say you’re not pretty.”

It took a moment for what Delphine said to register in Sung-hee’s tired mind.  Blinking a few times it finally sunk in; rolling her eyes she scoffed in response and shook her head.  “Del I will walk to your house and stab you with a knife.”  The idea of anyone besides Hyo, or Thunder, referring to her as pretty still make her uncomfortable for some strange reason.

It didn’t take long for Sung-hee to imagine Delphine waving her hand dismissively as she read over whatever blog post the girl made.  Calming her friend down was easy enough but she still was a curious mind who wanted to know everything about the situation.  “Yeah, yeah but seriously she got that worked up about it?  From the looks of it she had a nice long talk with what’s his face.”

“Well that’s wonderful.  Why can’t people just leave well enough alone for two seconds?  It’d be nice.  I mean Christ what is with people nowadays?”

Another pause and Sung-hee started to plot the girl’s death until a wry chuckle from Delphine snapped her out of it.  “They’re a bunch of crazies my dear you know this.  Don’t worry I’ll find her and beat her you just try to not lose your job okieday?”

Shifting around so she was sitting up straighter Sung-hee blew a raspberry in the phone with a dark pout on her lips.  “Bah humbug!”

“Oh don’t give me that I’ll figure something out to make you all smiley again this weekend I promise.”

“You’re too happy.”

“Shut up I had a lot of sugar.  Though I suppose I should let you go back to sleep then huh?”

“Yeah I guess.”

“Okay you catch some zzz’s I’ll plot the girl’s death.  We move first thing in the morning.”

Normally the joke would have made her laugh but at the moment Sung-hee was too annoyed to want to.  “Alright I’ll prepare my weapons in the morning.”  After sharing a laugh with Delphine Sung-hee hung up before falling back into her bed with a heavy sigh.  Once again not keeping shut bit her in the and on top of that her father hadn’t disappeared like she had hoped.  One thing was for sure she definitely wasn’t going to be able to get any sleep tonight.
