Awkward

He's Got A Boy [ON HIATUS]

The others stared blankly at Hyukjae and Donghae. As discreet as the pair was trying to be, the group of friends could tell that the two were feeling uncomfortable next to each other. Instead of the usual conversations the two would have, it was all silence; awkward silence.

“What do you think happened last night?” whispered a confused Dong Hee. Jung Soo rolled his eyes and gave him a look.

“Well if you didn’t drink so much last night and passed out in the middle of the floor, I’m pretty sure you would have remembered,” Jung Soo said. Dong Hee gave him a sheepish chuckle as Jung Soo sighed, placing his cheek on a fist. “Well I vaguely remember what happened, but since Jong Woon and Dong Hee were being too rowdy I had to tend to them.”

Unfortunately, the other members were also too drunk to remember or see what had happened between them. Donghwa had never came back home that day, much to everyone’s relief as they cleaned the place of any evidence of underage drinking.

The atmosphere had gotten even more awkward when Donghae pulled out the physics textbook from his bag. Adjusting his glasses, it was only seconds before Donghae was suddenly emerged into the thirty pound book. It didn’t take long before Hyukjae himself was feeling more uneasy at the sudden barricade and rubbed the back of his neck.

I wonder if Donghae even knows what had happened last night, thought Hyukjae. His eyes wandered off to the others who were watching them from afar. I wonder if the others know too . . .

“Guys, guys, he’s looking! Act natural!” whispered an overly excited Ryeowook. Everyone looked away and chose to be in the most unnatural pose to be in. It was a scene that Hyukjae was too familiar with.

Hyukjae mentally sighed, deciding to play along with their games as he looked to his right, occasionally glancing at Donghae in the corner of his eyes. He pouted a bit. Just what was he going to do? The situation right now is too awkward for him to start a conversation, and if he did, would Donghae even answer him?

Aish, so this is what girls must feel when talking to their crush, Hyukjae thought. He sighed. It was a loud sigh, for Donghae couldn’t help but pause in his reading and look up at him. All he saw was Hyukjae’s side profile, his eyes closed and his hands folded in front of him. He didn’t notice that he was staring until Hyukjae suddenly turned to look at him.

Donghae could feel the heat begin to crawl behind his neck as he blushed. Quickly looking away, he buried his nose into the book to hide his red face, leaving an utterly confused Hyukjae.

Babo, babo, babo! He caught you staring, now what?! Donghae mentally scolded himself.

                Hello~! Start a conversation!

I can’t—whoa wait, don't tell me this is one of those moments where I meet my conscience and think I’m going crazy, is it?

                . . . No . . . Donghae mentally groaned. I finally snapped.

                No, you just need help.

                I don't know how to take that . . .

Forget it. Right now, your main worry is Hyukjae! What are you doing hiding behind a textbook?

                I’m not hiding, I’m reading.

Don't get smart with me, we share the same body. Why are you even avoiding him?

I don't know . . . something must have happened last night and I don't remember anything at all!

Are you kidding me? You don't remember what happened, yet you’re ignoring him? Donghae can practically sense the nonexistent eyes staring at him like an imbecile. He probably was in all honesty. You have no idea how much I want to slap you, but since I’m your conscience, I’d feel guilty doing so.

Wow, that makes me feel a whole lot better. Donghae rolled his eyes and took off his glasses, rubbing his eyes. He started thinking about what his conscience said. Well he couldn’t help but admit that it was right, why was he ignoring him when he didn’t even remember what had happened last night?

He looked up from his textbook once again and saw Hyukjae trying to eat strawberry pudding with no spoon. Donghae couldn’t help but find the little scene in front of him cute, seeing how naive and innocent he looked when he could have just gotten up and taken a spoon from the cafeteria inside.

Donghae pinched his thigh under the table. Babo, just what were you thinking a second ago?

Donghae looked over at him again, before getting a glance of his textbook. Physics. Weren’t they supposed to work together for a project that’s due in June? That could be the conversation starter.

                “Uh, Hyukjae?”

Hyukjae jumped a bit. He looked at Donghae with huge saucer like eyes that Donghae couldn’t help but grimace at the sight. He was shocked that he was the one who talked first.

                “D-de?”

“Um, about the project due in June . . .?”

Don’t tell me he doesn’t want to be partners anymore, Hyukjae thought. Okay, it’s understandable if he doesn’t want to be partners anymore, just play it cool.

“How about coming over to my house tomorrow to work on it?”

“It’s okay Donghae, you don't have to feel bad, and I understand if you don’t want to — wait what?” Hyukjae stopped and looked at him.

“I asked if you wanted to come over to my house tomorrow to work on it. Why, what did you think I said?” Donghae asked, raising an eyebrow at him. Hyukjae shook his head before smiling.

“Ah, it’s nothing. Sure, after school?”

Donghae nodded before getting up once hearing the school bell ring. With a nod, he took his leave, with Hyukjae staring after him with a smile.

{Author's Note}

Well here's chapter 14 :) To be honest, I tried making this chapter as long as the othet chapters, but since this supposed to be the result after that night it's shorter ._. Though the next chapter will be long so please wait for it ^^

I have good news though, starting today, summer vacation officially starts. That means there would be more frequent updates :) Though it is not certain since I barely do anything during the summer which means my imagination will come up with ideas for new stories, so be aware, I may have another Super Junior fanfic on the way or some other band~

On a side note, do any of you readers have a tumblr? ^^ I need more blogs to follow since my dashboard looks so empty >.< (and since I'm a newbie, I will need help LOL) My tumblr is this:
