Meet My Boss
It was raining. Splashes of water rushed down the cityscapes of Seoul. Busybodies hurried off to their respective places to cover from this onslaught. Others trudged along the streets, with their umbrellas and raincoats to fend off the rain. Nonetheless, everything went into place in the city.
Except that there was someone beside a market stall; A bemused young lady with only her Misfits tshirt and her pair of faded jeans on, cold and dripping from head to toe. She looked at the assortment of fruits the market lady was selling and decided she wanted to buy some apples. She knew that she was allergic to apples, but didn't even mind even if she died from the allergic reaction. Because in this festered sidewalk devoured by the drizzle and sloshing winds, she felt like she was dead.
The rain grew harsher that day.

"Amber Liu, now you listen to me for one minute--"
Amber placed her hands menacingly at her uncle's desk.
"No, YOU listen to ME, dear uncle. I came here because I thought you had news about them. You said you knew who did it. You said--"
He stood up to her height and eyed her, "I know what I said. But if I told you the truth, would you have gone to Korea and approached me? NO! Cause you never cared what I was doing here. Never cared how I spent my 12 years working hard to pay off your bills--"
"I know that uncle, and it means the world to me. But I've said this a million times, I'll repay you by my own means--"
Her uncle cut in, "What? That dance studio you put up in LA? You think that's going to help? This is what's going to help this family. You take my place here in this chair."
She gritted her teeth and turned her back, "I don't want to be your mannequin, uncle. I don't want to be you. I don't want any of this and, definitely, I don't like being here."
Her uncle approached her tiredly, "I know all of these reminded you of everything you stayed away from. But your uncle needs you..."
"I need my parents! I need my sister Jack Jack! I need to get my life back! But I can't, can I? You can't always get what you need in this world, uncle. You know that!" She shouted back, spilling tears over her angry face. Her hands were balled into fists, trying to control more tears from spilling. But she can't anymore. She can't contain all these feelings bottled up.
He tried to comfort his niece but Amber shrugged his hands away as she sobbed mercilessly. Suddenly, he felt a jolt of pain in his chest. What was happening? He took his medication after lunch. These symptoms shouldn't be a problem. The pain increased tenfold like someone was crushing his chest. He kneeled from the pain. "Amber, I have to tell you this. I was at fault-- Your parents--"
Amber's eyes widened as she saw his uncle grasp his chest and kneel down. "Uncle!" She shook his shoulders but his uncle was losing consciousness.
"Someone call an ambulance!"

She saw everything in distressing flashes of pictures. His uncle in a stretcher. Two guys in scrub suits heading him to the ER. A nurse getting his blood pressure. Another nurse inserting an IV line. And then, they were defibrillating him. Hoping the shock would wake him up, her eyes never left him. The cardiac monitor still showed flat ECG lines.
She knew where this was going. She knew it all so well.
Soojung gazed at Amber pityingly. Not again, she thought. If she could take the pain Amber was experiencing, she would have done it. After all, Mr. Liu was also like a father to her. He supported her family as if it was his own. He helped her through college like a father would. And most importantly, he gave her his trust more than anything else. This trust, as he had unwittingly replayed over and over again, was also supposed to be given to his most beloved niece--
who was breaking into pieces at the sight of her uncle's condition.
A doctor approached them, "Who are the relatives--"
"I am," Both of the girls said.
Soojung looked at Amber, "He's her uncle."
He stared at both of them and took off his glasses, "I'm sorry but--"
Amber couldn't take it any longer. She pushed past the doctor and ran outside. Soojung was alarmed at her action and was about to follow her. The doctor held her wrist.
"Miss, it's been over an hour since we've given him inotropics and CPRs. It's time to let go."
She looked at the man who was telling her that his father surrogate was gone and at the direction Amber ran off to.
"Thank you for doing the best that you can, but if you could just excuse me," and without another word, she ran off to Amber.

Yo! Million claps for those who subbed and commented. And what a sad chapter I've made. I had to get this done first before all the kryber goodness I've thought in my head could be put into fruition. T_T
But anyways, now dead nameless uncle is gone (Spoiler: he will play an important part at the death of poor Amber's parents and her lost sister), next chapter will be "Meet the staff of Liu Advertising"! Sort of like that. And then, I get to add other characters! Yay! Keep on subscribing and commenting guys!
