Secret Love

“Hyunae-shi” the guy smiled at her. Hyunae gasped in realization at who the stranger was. Turns out, it wasn’t a stranger at all. They exchanged a quick hug and Hyunae directed him in one of the tables near the back. Hyunae left him for a while to tell Minhee, who was in the back, that she can leave before her. "Unnie, a friend of mine stopped by. You can leave before me and I'll close down."

"Are you sure?"
"Mm"
Hyunae nodded.
"Who is that guy? He's hot" Minhee fanned herself and the two girls burst out in laughter.

After bidding her goodbye, Minhee made two cups of cappuccinos for her and the customer. She placed the cup in front of him. "So Mister, what brings you here?" she asked as she sat across from him. He folded his arms in front of him and leaned in towards her. With a smirk he said, "How've you been Hyunae-shi?"

"You didn't answer my question"
"You didn't answer mine"
"Yah!"
she reached across the small table and flicked his forehead. "How did you know where to find me?"
"When did you start working here?"
"Yah Woo Jiho!"

"Okay okay" he chuckled, putting up his arms in defeat. "To answer your questions Hyunae-shi, I came to visit you of course and Himhim told me where you are."
"Why so formal to me but you call Channie by his nickname" Hyunae pouted and Jiho couldn't help but to pinch her cheeks.
"Because Ms. Thang" he snapped his fingers with attitude. "Unlike someone" he eyed Hyunae, "Himchan keeps in contact with me."
"Hey, you're the one who stopped calling and texting me"
"That's cos your prince charming's quite crazy. I didn't want to piss him off."

Hyunae tried to sigh softly but Jiho sensed the deepness of it. "Yeah, about him..." she trailed off.
"What about him?"
"Channie didn't tell you anything?"
"Should I know something?"

Hyunae filled him in on what's been happening. Woo Jiho has been their friend since they were practically babies in diapers. Their parents were college firends and Jiho's family lived next door to the Kims. Jiho's family, however moved to Japan when they were seven. A few weeks later, their house was bought by Yongguk's parents. Even though Jiho was in Japan for half of their lives, they kept in contact. Emailing, texting, calling, and web-camming. They did all to keep in contact with each other.

Jiho met Yongguk when they were fourteen. But before that, he already knew of Hyunae's feelings for him. Hyunae told him first before Himchan. That's how close they were. Yongguk didn't like the guy at all. He said he was cocky and way too happy like he was always on drugs or something. He also didn't like his interactions with Hyunae. Himchan always of being jealous, but he always denied it. Yongguk says he's just bad news.

After about fourty minutes, Jiho was filled in on everything. He made some snarky comments now and then and even cursing Yongguk out throughout the whole history lesson Hyunae gave him. "Hurry up Hyun, I'm sleepy" he whined while waiting for her to lock up the door. "Who told you to come visit me Woo Jiho. You could've slept all day." Hyunae fowned at him. "Yeah, but I missed you" he stole a quick peck from her cheek. "Pabo"

Hyunae turned around and watched Jiho walked before her, talking to himself. When he noticed that Hyunae wasn't walking with him, he stopped and turned around. "Yah! What are you doing? Come on!" he walked back to her and grabbed her hand, dragging her along with him. "Yah! We're walking?" she complained. He nodded and beamed at her, "Mm." Hyunae sighed, "But I'm tired. I was on my feet the whole day!" she whined. "Okay Ms. Whiney, hop on" he squatted in front of her and offer his back. Hyunae smiled and took his offer.

"Yah put me down"
"No, we're almost there anyways"
"Exactly. I'm heavy, your back must be hurting"
"Yeah, you're right"
he said, earning a slap in the shoulder from her. Chuckling, he put her down and straightened his back.

The two caught up once again on their way back to the twin's condo. This time, Jiho filled her in. Turns out he got out of school already and had graduated. He's only in Korea for the summer and will be back when college starts. Even though they barely talk nowadays, there's no hint of awkwardness. It's like they've never been apart from each other.

Yongguk glanced at his watch for the hundredth time. He's been waiting for Hyunae for three hours now. Himchan told him to get inside and wait for her there, but he refused. Himchan didn't tell him that Hyunae works because she didn't want him coming there. He also didn't mention that Jiho is back from Japan. He glanced at his watch again and sighed, "Where the hell are you?" he whispered. It's almost midnight and she wasn't home yet. Yongguk looked up when he caught the sound of a familiar voice and Hyunae's cute giggles. He turned to the side and saw her walking side by side with a certain blonde much taller than her. He squinted his eyes, trying to figure out who the stranger was.

"Hey look" Jiho pointed to sitting body on the side walk in front of the building. "Your ex prince charming" he smirked. Hyunae followed his gaze and saw Yongguk looking at them. More like scrutinizing them, actually. "Now, he decides he wants to see me?" Hyunae couldn't help but feel angry. After all those times of ignoring her, here he is now waiting for her to come home. "Maybe he's waiting for his girlfriend" Jiho teased and she punched him on the shoulder. " Hyun! You're ing strong!" he yelled and she just laughed at him.

Yongguk's blood boiled seeing the sight. She was laughing with this complete stranger. Oh how he missed seeing her happy face. He hasn't seen that in quite awhile. Still eyeing the two as they neared him, he stood up from the sidewalk and dusted the dirt of his bum. "Hey" he said to Hyunae once they reached within six feet from him. "Hey" Hyunae greeted back. Yongguk furrowed his eyebrows at her tone. She sounded unenthusiastic. Yongguk turned to the guy next to her. "Oh" Hyunae's expression suddenly changed. "Yongguk-ah, remember Jiho?" Jiho smiled brightly at Yongguk just to piss him off. "Hey man, long time no see" he stuck his hand out. "Jiho?" Yongguk asked dumbfounded. "Yeah. Hyunae and Himchan's friend from Japan. You moved in to our house and-"

"Okay, buddy. He doesn't need to know your whole life story" Hyunae interrupted. Jiho chuckled as Yongguk shook his hand.
"It's almost midnight. Where have you been?" Yongguk ignored Jiho's presence and turned to her.
"Out with a friend. Why?" Her expressionless face and emotionless voice returned.
"Just asking" he shrugged.

"Anyways" Jiho interrupted the staring contest the two had going. "I'll come by tomorrow morning and we can hang out, yeah?"
"Where are you staying? It's late, why don't you just stay over?"

"Anniya. I'm stopping by Kyung's and we're funna partaaay" he fist pumped the air.
"Yah pabo-yah" she nudged his forehead. "You said you were sleepy. Just stay over and get some rest."
"Naaaah. I miss the ladies, yah know" Jiho winked at her while walking backwards. "Night Hyun" he gave her a smile and waved goodbye.

Hyunae returned the gesture. She turned back to head inside the building when Yongguk's figure came into view. She forgot he was there. "Can we talk?" he asked. Hyunae sigh, "Why? Something wrong?" Yongguk was getting annoyed at her tone of voice. So lifeless, like she didn't find speaking to him so amusing aymore. "I guess" she said and walked to the bench in front of the building. She sat down and he followed right behind, sitting next to her with a big gap between them.

After a few seconds of silence, Yongguk finally spoke. "Are you and Nana still friends?"
Hyunae scoffed and rolled her eyes mentally. They haven't spoken in what seems like forever, yet he's asking about Nana. Not even an I miss you or how are you. "We're fine" she said.
Yongguk leaned his elbows on his knees and buried his face in his palms. "Himchan said you two don't talk anymore"
"We do. Just not as often as before"
"I'm sorry"
he said and Hyunae turned her head to look at him.
"For what?"
"I know it might seem like she... used you and all, but-"
"It's fine"
Hyunae cut him off. "People tend to trust others so easily and those people are bound to get used. I guess I was just one of them."
"Hyun" Yongguk turned to look at her. Hyunae was staring ahead, eyes filled with blankness. Yongguk couldn't help but stare at her. The light from the street post was shining on her, bringing out her features. Yongguk stared at her big round eyes, pointy nose, and down to her pink plump lips. Yongguk's heart skipped a beat once again. But like always, he just shook it off.

"Oppa" she suddenly turned to him and he quickly averted his eyes somewhere else. "Can I be honest with you?" Yongguk nodded his head and leaned back on the bench. His heart started to beat faster than normal and he doesn't know why. "I'm uncomfortable around you" she said and Yongguk once again turned to her with confusion on his face. "We haven't seen and talked to each other for quite a long time and it's just... weird now." Hyunae sighed and continued, "I like how you actually took time off to talk to me... again. I like how you waited outside for me to come home. But it's just... weird." Hyunae bitterly laughed, "That doesn't make sense. We've known each other for so long, I shouldn't feel like this."

A long silence followed. Yongguk didn't know what to say. It's like there was a huge piece of rock stuck in his throat preventing him from speaking. So many emotions filled their entire body as the silence of the night took over. Hyunae fidgeted around and played with the ring on her finger, a sign that she was nervous. Yongguk saw and took her hand in his. Hyunae immediately shook his hand off and turned to him, "Oppa, I'm tired and it's pretty late" she smiled to him. "Eo" he said and brought his hand back on his lap. Hyunae got up and straightened herself. She walked to the entrance and once she reached the glass doors, she turned around to bid him goodbye. "Drive safely" and without even waiting for his reply, she walked inside the building.

Yongguk watched her figure walk away from him. He didn't leave until she entered the elevator. Yongguk sighed and turned around towards his car. He didn't know why, but his footsteps felt heavy. So did his heart.
