Chapter Seven
Mysterious Friendship
"How about we start over?" Chanjo suggested as he stuck out his hand, "I'm JongHyun, I'm a ghost of some sort, but call me Changjo."
I giggled and shook his hand as I spoke.
"I'm ChaeYoung, I'm human and it's nice to meet you," I said.
I took my hand back in time for L.Joe to come back.
"I got you a bar from the vending machine and I got a doctor to check up on you."
I looked to where Changjo was and saw he had vanished.
"L.Joe I don't need a doctor, I just need food."
"Still, we already have one friend in the hospital. We don't need another one."
I ate the bar and let the doctor check up on me.
"She's fine," the doctor told L.Joe before he left.
I stayed and listened as L.Joe talked to JongHyun. I decided to take off once Niel came in. As soon as I exited the hospital, Changjo popped up next to me.
"Don't do that," I said, my hand going up to my heart.
"Sorry," he said while laughing.
I rolled my eyes and then took a good look at him.
"So why on earth do you not look like a ghost? And why can I see you?"
Changjo shrugged his shoulders.
"I'm just glad you can."
While I walked back, Changjo kept me entertained with stories that he pulled from out of the blue. I could see the strange looks from people around us. Seeing me laughing hysterically with no reason that they could see. Changjo left once we reached my doorstep and I entered to see my mom having dinner with a guy.
"Who is this?" I asked.
"It's just a guy from work," my mom said.
I decided to question my mom later and went to my room. There on my bed was Changjo. I had to stop myself from screaming my head off at him.
"I thought you left," I said closing my door behind me and talking quietly.
"I decided since you know I am a ghost and I have nothing better to do that I would stick around."
I rolled my eyes and pulled him off my bed. I pulled out my phone and called Chunji.
"I was just about to call," he told me, leaving me to smile.
"Oh really now?"
"Yes. I wanted to make sure everything was okay with you. That my mom didn't drive you away from wanting to hang out with me."
"Everything is great. I just had a thing."
I mentally slapped myself. Again with the thing?
"Smooth," Changjo commented.
I smacked his arm and pointed to the door. He rolled his eyes before dissapearing.
"A thing?" Chunji asked.
"Yes. I had to go visit your friend."
"JongHyun?"
How was I supposed to explain myself? I felt so bad for running out.
"I wanted to stay, believe me. But can you just trust me that I had to go see him? I have no idea how to explain this."
It was quiet on Chunji's end and I bit my lip as I waited for an answer.
"Alright. I believe that you had a reason to visit him. Now can I ask what your plans were for tomorrow?"
The only thing I knew was I needed to get my bag back from Ricky an finish my homework.
"I have math to finish," I told him.
"Or you could finish it now and we could go on a date?"
Date? He wants to go on a date... with me?
"Yes," I said with a huge grin plastered on my face.
Changjo appeared in my room as I said goodbye to Chunji.
"Your bag is at Ricky's genius," he said ruining my happy mood.
"Can you get it for me?" I asked.
"And how would you explain to him that you got it back?"
I grumbled as I found Ricky's contact and gave him a call. Why did Changjo have to be like this? Putting me down when I had just been asked out by Chunji.
"Hello ChaeYoung!" Ricky said answering his phone. "Calling about your bag?"
"Yeah. It's not to late to come get it, is it?" I asked.
"Of course not! Come on over."
I thanked Ricky and ended the call. My mom was still with that guy but it didn't stop her from wondering where I was going.
"I left my bag at Ricky's and I'm just going to get it."
"Have you had dinner?"
"I'll get it once I get back," I told her.
I headed over to Ricky who was waiting outside with my bag.
"I didn't want my mom to say something she shouldn't again," he explained as he handed me my bag.
"Understood," I told him as I took my bag and placed it on my back.
"Have you had dinner yet?" he asked me.
"I was going to have some once I grabbed my bag," I said.
"Well why don't we have dinner together? I know this great place just down the street."
I wanted to decline because I needed to do my homework. If I didn't, then when would I? Before my date? After my date? Gosh, I already loved hearing that. I had a date.
"I guess we could have some dinner," I told him.
