“Did you honestly ask me to come out of my way to talk to you? And you’re doing yoga?”

Valentina darted her eyes in Kai’s direction, giving him a fierce look. She ignored his question and moved into her next pose. Downward Facing Dog.

“You know what? You are truly Tao’s sister. He must have got his idiocy from you.” Running his fingers through his hair, Kai chuckled at his own joke.

“It seems you might have picked up the habit too.”

Kai huffed as he settled himself on the grass beside the faerie. Said faerie was in the middle of a new pose; body fully stretched against the ground except for her chest and arms that were extended, craning her neck and pushing her face towards the sky. Instead of her usual hyperactive tendencies she looked serene and peaceful. Kai was sure Luhan would have loved to see her at that moment.

“I waited for 20 minutes and you hadn’t shown up, so I made use of my time. I only have a couple more poses, and then I’ll be done. Just be patient.”

The vampire sighed, unwilling to be patient. And soon enough he was bored, body itching to move. It was impossible for Kai to sit idle even if it was only for a few minutes.

“Namaste.”

Kai quickly looked up at the sound of the strange word to see Valentina bowing with her palms together.

“Namaste?”

“It’s a yoga thing.”

The vampire shrugged, realizing how much he really didn’t care.

The faerie settled down in front of Kai. She took a sandwich from out of her bag and laid it down her lap. Eyeing the vampire, she took out a small pouch filled with dark crimson liquid and handed it to Kai. He gave her a quizzical look.

“What? You know my boyfriend is a vampire too, right? I can’t have him starving whenever he stays at my place.”

“Why doesn’t he just drink your blood?”

It made sense to Kai. He had even his shapeshifter friend’s blood before. And he was a guy. It was no harm done if it was just a little.

“Oh he does,” Valentina smirked as a blush settled on to her cheeks, “he prefers if we save it as a more intimate thing.”

Kai mentally gagged. “Ok, ok, changing the subject now. What did you want to talk about?”

The faeries face took on a more serious expression as she set down her food. “It’s about Laeling.”

He tensed, instantly hearing the grim tone of her voice. Kai rubbed the back of his neck, trying to compose himself. “What about her?”

“She told you her and Daehyun broke up.”

It wasn’t a question but Kai couldn’t understand why Valentina was bringing this up.

“They didn’t exactly break up. It was more like, Lae ran away.” The faerie waited patiently for Kai’s reaction. She knew she had to let him figure this one out on his own.

Scrunching his eyebrows together, Kai couldn’t understand what Valentina meant. Ran away? Why would Laeling need to run away? Was this much more serious than he thought? Was this more than a simple break up? Kai struggled with trying to form an explanation.

“Why would she run away? Did that bastard try to do something to her?”

Valentina sighed. She hated doing this, but Tao had told her what she knew she had to do. She couldn’t let Kai go on being oblivious. He needed to take the right actions to secure Laeling’s safety. Daehyun wasn’t the type to just let his property be stolen. That’s all that Laeling was to him. Property.

“He did more than try. He succeeded. He her, Jongin. She has nowhere to go. She won’t stay with me, I already tried. I think she’s staying in some hotel right now but she’s in danger. Daehyun won’t let her running away go unnoticed. He will take action.”

Kai had barely heard a thing the faerie was saying. He had stopped really listening once she said the word . His skin itched and his fingers curled in anger. How could this happen? How this happen to her? Things had to have been going bad for a while. Why hadn’t he known? Why hadn’t Laeling confided in him?

Something in the vampire snapped. His instincts took over. He no longer knew how to cope with the situation.

“I’ll make sure Laeling is safe. I’ll make sure this doesn’t escalate any farther. I will take action.”

Kai clenched his fists, fingernails scarring the soft flesh of his palm. He was confused and hurt. He couldn’t believe this was going on right under his nose. But he did know one thing. He was going to get that bastard.

He’d kill him if he had to.

-

Combing his fingers through his blonde hair, Kris sighed. He just knew today was going to be one of those days. The morning had already started off badly.

He remembered waking up to pouring rain. Kris didn’t necessarily hate rain, just the bad meals that came with it. Not many creatures liked to roam around in the rain. This usually resulted in poor choices for food, because only the lowliest of creatures stayed out in the rain.

The prince was suddenly interrupted from his thoughts when he heard a soft knock at his door.

“In.”

A maid slowly popped her head in. I rolled my eyes and gestured for her to come in. She opened the door to reveal a very grumpy looking Luhan, blond curls soaked but in dry clothes nonetheless.

Once he stepped in the maid quickly made her leave with a bow, closing the door behind her.

“You’re late.”

“I wasn’t planning on rain, so I walked.”

Kris couldn’t suppress a chuckle. “You should always be prepared for the worse.”

The elder of the two sat down on of Kris’s chairs. He scoffed, “Says the one who doesn’t save meals for rainy days.”

“I like my meat fresh, Lu Lu.”

Luhan ignored his younger brother’s mocking. “I believe there is a reason I’m here, am I right?”

Earlier that week, Kris finally returned back to his beloved home. He now felt comfortable talking to Luhan about their previous agreement in a more secluded place. Really, he just didn’t want to risk his parents eavesdropping. From past experience, they normally did.

“Right, right. You haven’t forgotten about our deal, right?”

Luhan nodded hesitantly, which didn’t go unnoticed from Kris.

“And what have you got? I hope it’s good, Luhan.” Kris’s voice took on a threatening tone. He hoped Luhan had not failed him.

“Valentina and Tao, they aren’t exactly close yet. They don’t talk often, and when they do….it’s about petty stuff.”

Luhan shyly looked down, avoiding his brother’s harsh gaze.

“so nothing? Absolutely nothing?” Kris abrubtly stood up from his chair, and begin to pace back in forth in his large room. Frustration was evident on his face, he clenched his one fist and lifted the other to his head, pulling at his hair.

“I gave you a simple task, Luhan. An ignorant troll would have done better. What good is a brother who befriends the enemy when he can’t bring dirt back to his ally?”

Luhan shifted uncomfortably in his chair. He knew it was best to take the insults instead of respond. Kris needed to let off some steam, and Luhan was the cause of that stress, well partially.

“I did get one thing. But it’s nothing significant.”

The younger vampire stopped mid step, waiting for the other to continue.

“Valentina mentioned that Jael and Tao are fighting or something like that. Maybe the honeymoon phase isn’t what it’s cracked up to be.”

“Ah…” Kris slowly took in this bit of news. It wasn’t much, but it could do some damage.

“I suppose I’ll take that,” the younger mumbled loud enough for Luhan to hear, “but remember this, Lu; I won’t accept something like this again. I have neither the time nor patience to wait until that girl of yours makes up with your brother. Do what you need to, or I will do what I need to.”

The rain from this morning had come back, softly rattling against the window. Luhan looked out of the window, searching for something, no, anything to calm his nerves. His brother always put him on edge like that. He couldn’t stand it.

“What do you mean?”

Luhan knew he shouldn’t have asked. It would only egg Kris on. “This is my game. I play by my rules. You slip up, I slip up. Mom and dad will know about Valentina before you have the chance to call and warn her.”

In less than a second Luhan was out of his seat and in Kris’s face, only inches away. “You wouldn’t dare.”

“I would, Lu Lu. I’d love to, actually.” Kris took in Luhan’s daring stance, chuckling at the sight of his brother so angry, “antsy, aren’t we?”

-

“Where are we going?” Jael couldn’t have had a more disinterested look on her face if she tried.

“It’s a surprise.” I smiled cheekily at her, hoping to get more of a response from her.

My hope was in vain. Jael’s expression hadn’t change in the tiniest bit. I looked over in the passenger seat to see her absentmindedly playing with her hair, braiding and unbraiding random strands. She did this when she was nervous.

I tried my best to ignore the awkward feeling in the car and drove on to my destination. The beach. Sure, it was 10 at night, but Jael and I both were night owls. Plus, I knew for a fact she loved the beach, and tonight so happened to be a full moon.

Once I parked, realization dawned on her face. Her expression softened in the slightest bit and I knew I had picked the right spot.

We lazily made our way down to the shore, the moon lighting our path. Having the eyes of a vampire helped too.

Jael wadded in the water, while I sat down in the sand. Her previous mood was gone in an instant. She splashed and swam in the water; her laughter was like medicine for my stress. I smiled at her childish behavior, relishing in the fact that I got to see her happy like this.

After a while, she somehow had managed to get me in the water with her. I took in the sight of her trembling lips and wet silver hair. The moonlight truly made her look ethereal. Unreal to the undead.

I had momentarily forgot that we were both still clothed. I didn’t bring swim trunks and she, of course, didn’t have a bathing suit. Feeling a little daring, I took off my shirt and wiggled out of my pants and boxers. She smiled and laughed, following suit.

As stupid as it sounded, it was something about being completely with each other that made us completely forget we were at odds.

Slowly, I brought my lips to hers, hoping she wouldn’t back away. She stiffened when we made contact but slowly begin to relax as she opened to let me in. I didn’t hesitate for a split second, delving into . I felt as though I could drown in the wave emotions that hit me; lust, anger, bitterness, and love.

I knew that Jael and I were capable of reading each other’s emotions, but this was new. It was as if we were pushing at each other, forcing the other to feel what we ourselves were feeling. I could get use to this.

She s her arms around my shoulders, without breaking the kiss. I couldn’t hold back a moan when she pulled my bottom lip in between her teeth, it hard. Everything Jael did was harsh and demanding, I loved that about her.

I slowly pulled back, trying to get a good look at her face. Her lips were slightly parted and a tad swollen from our kissing. Her eyes of many colors never left mine, always was prying into my mind. Her face was covered in droplets of seawater, reflecting the moonlight.

I wanted to continue this, so bad. I wanted to stay in the icy grip of the waves, and claim her body as mine once again. But I came out here with a purpose and that was to finally be open with my lover.

“I’m sorry,” I whispered, not sure of what to say next, “I know I should never keep things from you. You’re my one and only, my other half. You deserve to know everything.”

I closely watched for her reaction. Her face contorted at the mere mention of the reason why we were fighting in the first place. She quickly regained her composure, reaching her hands to my face. She gripped both sides of my head; a small smile appeared on her lips.

“You can still tell me, Zitao.”

“Let me tell you the reason for not telling you first. For your safety, knowledge often gets one in danger. You knowing more about the situation will be unsafe for you.”

I sighed, and lightly kissed her lips. Her taste was like a drug, better that any blood I’ve ever consumed.

“I can take of myself. You don’t have to worry about me all the time.”

“I know that now. I should have realized before.”

She gave me a questioning look, and I knew she was waiting for me to explain.

I begin to tell her of my royal blood, and the fact that being born a vampire was a very special thing. I told her of the two clans that have been fighting since existence; only a born-vampire could be king. She realized that this was the reason for the clans’ fighting. Neither clan ever came to an agreement. I mentioned that my family, the Dark Raven clan, had not had their heir as king for over two generations. The present King’s son was very adamant on becoming the next king, not willing to let me have the crown.

I told her of my need to be the next king, but not of my reason.

“Why does knowing this endanger me?”

We were no longer in the water, but were now slowly walking along the shore. Our skin was freezing, but we were used to being cold. Her hands searched for mine and I laced our fingers together. I had not forgotten her question, but was searching for an appropriate answer.

“The King’s son, Kris, will do anything to be king. He is not above killing. He knows you’re my encouragement, my fighting power, and the force behind my will. He will soon find out that you’re the key to my success.” I blushed, at the rawness of my voice. I couldn’t hide my emotion. “ Without you I’m powerless.”

Jael quietly took in my words. I could see her brow furrowing in confusion. She hadn’t yet realized the significance of our bond.

“How can I help you?”

I couldn’t help but smile at this. Even after hearing how unsafe the whole thing was for her, she still only cared for my well-being.

“Just support me, Jael. Be there. Don’t leave, be my wings for me. No one will stand a chance against me, as long as you stay by my side.”

She smiled squeezing my hand, eyes bright and happy. “but that’s way too easy.”

-

“It’s been awhile.”

“Not long enough, if I say so myself.”

The blond-haired women chuckled at the snarky comment from the boy. “Don’t be like that, Sehunnie. Those words hurt more than you know.”

Sehun cringed at the sarcasm dripping from the woman’s words. He had never wanted to kill someone in his life before until now. And no one else deserved more than she did.

“What are you doing in my house?”

The woman walked to the far corner of the room and back. “You call this piece of crap a house? My bathroom’s bigger than this.” She mad a gagging noise at the dead bugs squished in between the floorboards. She stood up swiftly, not one hair out of place.

She kicked her black boots against the leg of the chair that Sehun was sitting in, laughing at its unstableness.

The insults were ignored by the boy. He couldn’t afford anything better, and he didn’t car either. He had no reason to want something more. He had no one to impress…… anymore.

“I’m sorry to say that my reason for coming wasn’t for a friendly visit. In short you can say I’m here to warn you.”

The woman motioned toward the corner and a man came out of the shadows. He had a young face but a stern expression, with dirty blond hair. Sehun guess he was around his own age.

“I’m almost certain that if that lowlife, Zitao, hasn’t already come to you, he will soon. You’re not to tell him a thing. At all.” The blond haired woman took a step closer to Sehun, inches away from his face, “If you so much as tell him anything. I don’t care how small. My friend here will see fit to have you properly punished.”

The woman grinned, standing back up to her full height. “He’s a warlock by the way, so I wouldn’t put anything pass him. He’s not like you and me. Blood doesn’t squelch the beast inside of him.”

She motioned to the other male, and he quickly made to open the door for her. The woman gave Sehun one more threatening glare before she started to walk out.

“Chaerin,” the woman froze, with barely a foot out of the door.

Sehun stood from his chair; his fists shook with the need to keep his anger in check, “Never put me and you in the same sentence. We’re nothing alike.”

Chaerin chuckled and continued out of the house, murmuring something almost incoherent. But Sehun heard her loud and clear.

“Oh but we are. More than you know.”
