INT. KITCHEN - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

JESSICA is having a grilled cheese sandwich on the couch. She looks at the clock. 11pm. She hears the rustling of keys at the door and then the turn of the door knob.

Enters Krystal, hobbling in through the door.

JESSICA
There you are.

KRYSTAL awkwardly nods.

JESSICA
Well, you were pushing it, but it isn’t too late, I suppose.

KRYSTAL awkwardly nods once again.

JESSICA
You okay?

KRYSTAL
Yes.

JESSICA
Medication?

KRYSTAL
What else?

KRYSTAL walks past the couch, toward the kitchen.

JESSICA
Well, wait a minute! Come here.

KRYSTAL lets out a childish sigh and walks back over.

JESSICA
How was your day? You were out all day. I got kind of lonely.

KRYSTAL keeps her eyes down toward her feet.

KRYSTAL
I, uh, saw a friend at the bookstore. We, uh, hung out afterward. I hadn’t seen her in a long time.

JESSICA playfully pouts.

JESSICA
Well, what about me? You haven’t seen me in a long time!

KRYSTAL
No kidding.

JESSICA has a look of regret on her face for what she has said.

KRYSTAL continues to look at the ground, as if attempting to hide her eyes.

KRYSTAL
Well, I’m pretty tired, so…

JESSICA
You’re always so tired.

KRYSTAL
(agitated)
How many times do I have to tell you? It’s the side effects of my medication.

JESSICA waves her hands, apologetically.

JESSICA
I know, I know. No needs to get feisty with me. I, just, you know, worry about you.

KRYSTAL
Well, don’t. I’m okay.

JESSICA bends her head down to get a better look at KRYSTAL’S face.

JESSICA
Your eyes are so red!

KRYSTAL'S eyes immediately dash away from JESSICA’S sight.

KRYSTAL
I didn’t get much sleep last night. I’ll take my sleep meds tonight.

JESSICA
Maybe you should have a little snack before you sleep. That might help with the medication.

JESSICA raises her cheese sandwich up.

JESSICA
Grilled cheese?

KRYSTAL leans over and takes a bite of the sandwich.

KRYSTAL
(mouth full)
Goodnight.

INT. KITCHEN - JUNG RESIDENCE - MORNING

The sound of folk music playing from the radio. All I want by Joni Mitchell. JESSICA is preparing breakfast. She’s whistling cheerfully along to the melody. She turns the stove off and looks over to see KRYSTAL sitting at the table. She looks very hungover.

JESSICA
Oh my god! I didn’t even hear you come in!

KRYSTAL lays her head on the table.

JESSICA
Finally starving?

KRYSTAL nods, head still lying on the table.

JESSICA
Good, cause I made plenty.

JESSICA prepares a plate for KRYSTAL and places it on the table in front of her. KRYSTAL looks at the plate apprehensively. She lifts her utensils and begins to play with the eggs.

JESSICA
(mimicking a parental voice)
Don’t play with your food, honey!

KRYSTAL lifts a forkful of egg into and slowly chews down on it.

JESSICA
 Atta girl.

They both continue to eat their food in silence. 

JESSICA
(breaking the silence)
Blue is such a masterpiece, isn’t it? Do you like Joni Mitchell, Krys?

KRYSTAL
(stoically)
Of course I do.

JESSICA looks off to the side, as if daydreaming.

JESSICA
One of father’s absolute favorites. Remember how he used to play her records over and over and over again?

KRYSTAL slides the plate away from her, causing a screeching sound on the table.

KRYSTAL
Why do you keep bringing him up all of a sudden?

JESSICA
Father? I didn’t realize I was-

KRYSTAL
In the car. You mentioned me playing his guitar. Now. You’re mentioning him again. Why all of a sudden?

JESSICA
Well, I don’t know. I guess being in the house again is just bringing about all these memories.

KRYSTAL scooches her chair back.

KRYSTAL
Well, I’d appreciate it if you stopped.

KRYSTAL grabs her plate and proceeds to wash it in the sink.

Momentary silence.

JESSICA
I’m sorry. I didn’t think it would upset you. To say those things about father.

KRYSTAL continues to scrub her plate.

KRYSTAL
It’s fine.

JESSICA
I really didn’t think it would-

KRYSTAL
(firmly)
I said it was fine, Jessica.

JESSICA looks at the back of KRYSTAL’S head, a look of foolishness on her face.
