Chapter 14

Don't Wanna Cry

Over the next two weeks, Jeonghan had become less than eager to visit Seungcheol. After accidentally hurting Seungcheol that first time, it kept happening over and over. It was never on purpose but Jeonghan would try to help Seungcheol and somehow it would result in Jeonghan messing up something and Seungcheol being hurt in the process. One time it was Jeonghan accidentally spilling some hot soup onto Seungcheol's lap and almost burning the older boy's skin. Another time Jeonghan was trying to help Seungcheol down the stairs and by mistake he had let go of the other before reaching the last step which caused Seungcheol to fall onto the ground, bruising one of his thighs. There was also that time where Jeonghan was carrying a tray of food and he had accidentally dropped it which made a mess all over Seungcheol's bedroom floor. Seunggil and Ara had to clean it while Mrs. Choi had to remake Seungcheol's dinner and Jeonghan could only stand there as he reprimanded himself for being such an idiot. It seemed that whatever Jeonghan tried to do, he would always mess up and make things worse. It was frustrating and it was even harder to not hate himself when he would look up and meet Seungcheol's gaze, only to watch as Seungcheol tried and control his irritation just so that he wouldn't yell at the other boy. And Jeonghan knew that the only reason Seungcheol tried to hold back was because Woozi had talked to the other and told him how he had really upset Jeonghan the first time he had yelled at him.

Jeonghan felt beyond guilty and he wouldn't even blame Seungcheol if the other had lost his cool with him after the all of the times he had messed up. Hell, he couldn't even playfully joke around with Seungcheol without accidentally slapping the other on the arm a little too hard, causing the other to suppress a pained groan. Jeonghan would try to apologize after but Seungcheol would tell him to forget about it while trying to regain control of his temper and then attempting to return to the carefree atmosphere that they had before. Only it was a lot harder when Jeonghan was hit with another wave of guilt which made him act more reserved and awkward towards Seungcheol.

On the other hand, Ara was doing a much better job with dealing with Seungcheol. The girl knew exactly how to take care of him and how to have a good time with him. Plus, she had all of these stories from their childhood and Jeonghan could see the sparkle in Seungcheol's eyes as he remembered the happy memories. Seeing how she could put Seungcheol in such a pleasant mood within seconds really made Jeonghan doubt himself and if he even deserved to be with Seungcheol when compared to Ara.

Sure, he didn't like the girl and yes she was a constant to the rest of Seventeen but she did always put Seungcheol first and she always knew how to handle things if Seungcheol needed help. And as far as her personality goes, despite how terrible she was, she must have some good qualities for Seungcheol to still be friends with her after all of these years. Maybe she was a better pick for Seungcheol after all....

He had discussed his worries with Joshua and the other had told him to cheer up and reasoned that Seungcheol's irritation towards him were nothing to take to heart. Jeonghan knew his best friend was right, but that didn't take away the fact that it still hurt. Hearing the boy you like telling you to leave while looking annoyed and angry with you was like having a knife stab right through you. And to make things worse, Jeonghan noticed the obvious difference between how Seungcheol treated him that day and how he treated Ara. Again, there were reasonable explanations for this, and Joshua had gone through all of them with him, but it didn't change the fact that it still hurt.

It didn't help that their company was also being more strict with the boys. The higher ups were becoming more impatient with how long their hiatus was stretching out and they had made it clear that they wanted Seventeen to have a comeback as soon as possible. Their CEO had even called in Woozi and Hoshi one morning and demanded updates on their progress for the new album. The two unit leaders gave their answers, making it clear that they were designing this comeback for 13 members and heavily implying that they wanted to wait for Seungcheol's return which only caused their CEO to become furious with them. That evening, the entire group was called into a conference room at Pledis and their CEO had yelled at them for "being silly and not taking their jobs seriously." Their CEO's words were harsh and he had warned them that if they continued to hold off their comeback that he expected the album to be absolutely flawless and that they should win multiple awards if they were going to wait that long. It added a lot of pressure onto the boys and if that wasn't bad enough, their CEO had also told them that they would all be under severe watch to make sure that they had the best comeback possible.

It was stressful and hard and Jeonghan felt like his mind was falling apart with his feelings for Seungcheol and the added stress that Pledis was putting on him and his precious dongsaengs.

And as a result of all of this, Jeonghan had decided that he would visit Seungcheol less. He didn't want to accidentally hurt the other anymore than he already had and he certainly didn't want to feel that horrible feeling every time he compared himself to Ara. The girl was doing a much better job at proving herself worthy of being with Seungcheol than he was and Jeonghan didn't want the constant reminder. When the members would try to convince him to tag along but Jeonghan refused and when Seungcheol's family would call he would ignore the calls or politely decline the invitation. He would tell them lame excuses about needing to practice more with his dancing and vocals and he was thankful that they all let him slide without asking any further questions.

Jeonghan's plan seemed to work, and even the company was happy with all of the extra hours he was putting into practicing, so no one could complain. That was until Seungcheol started asking for him. The older boy would call and try to Skype but Jeonghan would ignore those and when the leader realized that he wasn't going to reach Jeonghan that way, he would interrogate the members whenever they would come and visit. And of course, as a result that brought Jeonghan's odd behavior to the rest of Seventeen's attention.

Now Jeonghan had all 12 of them asking him what was wrong and Jeonghan would try his very best to avoid every conversation. It had gotten to the point where they actually had to corner him in the dorm and have a forced intervention with Mingyu and Wonwoo literally holding him down to sit on the couch.

"Hyung, why won't you come with us to visit Seungcheol? Do you not like him anymore?" Dokyeom asked, sounding sad at the thought of Jeonghan no longer liking Seungcheol.

"This is stupid. I already told you guys that nothing is wrong! Now if we're done, I'm going to take a nap." Jeonghan then made an attempt to get out of his seat but Mingyu and Wonwoo just pulled him back down. Jeonghan glared at both of them but they didn't seem fazed at all.

"If nothing is wrong, then why can't you tell us why you always refuse to visit Seungcheol." Woozi asked while giving Jeonghan a look that said you-better-answer-truthfully.

"Guys, I'm sure Jeonghan is telling the truth. Maybe he's just been too busy?" Jun tried to reason.

"More busy than the rest of us?! That's bull. We've all made the time to go see our leader despite our busy schedules and suddenly Jeonghan can't? I don't accept that!" Woozi shouted back.

"Hey, yelling won't get us anywhere! Maybe Jeonghan hyung has a perfectly good reason for not seeing Seungcheol." Hoshi said, not liking Woozi's outburst towards Jeonghan.

"Yeah, for all we know, maybe Ara said something to him again." Seungkwan added.

"Is that true, hyung? Did she do something again?" Minghao asked.

"No. She didn't." Jeonghan answered quietly. He knew that if he didn't then s would try to start something with the girl which would cause unnecessary drama.

"Then why won't you come see Seungcheol?!" Mingyu asked but Jeonghan stayed silent and instead stared at his hands resting in his lap. He avoided eye contact with everyone in the room until Joshua kneeled in front of him and grabbed his hands in his lap, forcing Jeonghan to focus on him.

"Jeonghan, why won't you see Seungcheol?" Joshua asked in a gentle tone.

"Because...." Jeonghan trailed off, trying to find the words to say. It would've been much easier if it were just him and Joshua in the room because he was used to confiding in the other, but with the others around, it became a lot harder to talk about his feelings. Usually he was the one to solve their problems as they poured out their hearts to him, but now it seemed that the roles had reversed and he was going to be the one to talk about his troubles while his dongsaengs tried to console him.

Jeonghan looked at s and as he saw their concerned faces, he felt more secure with talking about his feelings. "I don't....I don't think I'm good for Seungcheol."

"What?!" They all sounded shocked.

"You know that's crazy, right?" Vernon said.

"Hyung, what do you mean you're not good for Seungcheol? Everyone knows you're the best person there is for him." Dino said a moment later.

"I know what you all think and I'm glad that you're so supportive of me and my feelings for Seungcheol, but this isn't just about me and my feelings. It's about Seungcheol too." Jeonghan replied.

"We know that and that's why we think you two would be good for each other." said Wonwoo.

"Are you crazy? You've seen how I've been around him the past few weeks. I keep accidentally hurting him! , I think I'm more clumsy than Mingyu!"

"Hey!" Mingyu pouted and Jeonghan sent him an apologetic look.

"Sorry, but you get my point. I'm completely hazardous around him and he doesn't need someone like me in his life, especially now when he's trying to recover!"

"So what? You're just going to ignore him until he's okay again?" Hoshi asked.

"Pretty much!"

"That's insane. Do you even realize what that would do to our group's dynamic? This gap that you're creating between you and Seungcheol will just make things awkward. Fans will start to notice when their favorite ship doesn't have as many moments together as they used to. And not to mention, it would create problems during rehearsals and practices." The performance leader tried to reason.

"That's still better than me hurting Seungcheol."

"You're such a hypocrite! You tell us to consider Seungcheol's feelings when you're the one that's completely ignoring them!" Woozi shouted. "Seungcheol is not some glass doll! He's a person and he can handle whatever mistakes you make around him! Do you want to know why? Because he knows that they're mistakes and they're harmless! He knows that you're just trying to help and that's his incentive to get back up whenever you think you've knocked him down. And if you're afraid of him hating you, then I can tell you right now that that's the last thing Seungcheol would ever feel towards you! He could never even come close to hating you and he would never blame you for anything that you didn't do intentionally! In fact, he'd be more annoyed with you for choosing not to come see him!"

"How would you know?!" Jeonghan shouted back.

"Because he told me! He told all of us! He's so sad that you haven't come to see him and he's always asking for you! You keep talking about not wanting to hurt Seungcheol but that's exactly what you're doing right now!"

"What?" Jeonghan asked, feeling his heart drop at hearing that he had made Seungcheol upset. Jeonghan looked up at s again for some sort of confirmation and they all nodded, indicating that everything Woozi had just said was true.

"It's true hyung, Seungcheol sounded so sad the last time we went to visit and he realized that you weren't there." Dokyeom added.

"But...Ara-" Jeonghan tried.

"Ara isn't you." Joshua cut him off with a soft smile. "I don't know why you keep comparing yourself to that girl but you really need to stop. Ara is Ara and you are you....And Seungcheol wants to see you."

Jeonghan felt a tear threatening to fall from his eye. He had missed Seungcheol dearly but he was just afraid of hurting the other and he had stupidly started to doubt himself. But looking at s and after hearing their reassuring words, he realized how foolish he was being. "Alright! As soon as I have another day off, I'll go see Seungcheol!" Jeonghan declared with a smile of his own. The others were so happy that they cheered and then started to plan their schedules so that they could all go together.

It was another 3 days before all 12 of them were able to go. They had pleaded with their manager and the man was nice enough to make a special request to the higher ups at Pledis in order to get the boys permission to all go at once. Apparently the company had said that if they were all taking a day off then that would come out of their manager's pay but the older man said that he didn't mind. He had told them that he would gladly go one day without pay if it meant that they were all happy. The Seventeen members were all touched when they had heard that and they promised to treat him to the biggest and most delicious meal as a thanks.

So they all ended up traveling to Daegu, leaving early in the morning so that they could spend as much time as they could at the Choi's house. They had even stopped at a resting area to grab snacks and the members continued to give Jeonghan reassuring smiles and words of encouragement. Jeonghan didn't want to say it, but it really helped to calm his nerves. He was so happy to have such wonderful dongsaengs and he couldn't help but to match their smiles during the whole ride to Daegu.

And Jeonghan tried to keep his positive attitude throughout the day but as they got closer to their destination, he felt his resolve start to waver and his palms started to sweat. He hadn't been this nervous since Seventeen's debut and for a split second he thought about taking over the driver's wheel and going right back to Seoul. What would Seungcheol say to him after all these weeks of avoiding him? How would Jeonghan even respond? Would the members even notice if he jumped into the drivers seat and sped back home? Maybe not....He just had to-

But of course, his planning was cut short when the van had come to a stop and Mingyu had pat him on the shoulder with a bright smile on his face and a "You can do it hyung!" shouted in his ear. And of course, his hyper members had heard and they had to join in and turn it into a cheer as they all got out of the vans and stood on Seungcheol's driveway.

Jeonghan jokingly told them to shut up as he slowly made his way to the front door of the house. He was hesitant to push the doorbell but someone (Wonwoo) had grabbed ahold of his slightly trembling hand and had forced him to press the button. And after a few minutes, Seungcheol's father had opened the door and let them all inside.

There was no turning back now.

The boys wasted no time in pushing Jeonghan through the house and up the stairs. The poor boy almost fell over with all of their pushing but luckily Vernon had caught him. Suddenly they were in front of Seungcheol's bedroom and Jun was the one to knock on the door. They had heard Seungcheol's voice telling them to come in and the Chinese boy practically pulled Jeonghan in with him. The rest of Seventeen followed closely behind and they made sure to leave no room for Jeonghan to escape. Although that didn't stop Jeonghan from trying to look for one until he heard Seungcheol's voice call his name.

"Jeonghan! You came to see me!" Seungcheol said in an excited tone.

That finally got Jeonghan to look up at the other, but when he did the smile that was forming on his face immediately fell at the sight of Ara sitting on Seungcheol's bedside. Jeonghan felt the urge to run again but just as he was about to make a dash for it, he was suddenly pushed forward by Dokyeom and Hoshi. Then he heard the others quickly shuffle out of the room and Jeonghan turned around just in time to see Minghao shut the door behind him.

Jeonghan swore he was going to kill them all later.

As of right now, the only people left inside the room were Jeonghan, Seungcheol and Ara and for some reason it felt a bit too crowded. Jeonghan wanted to leave but Seungcheol called out to him again and that stopped Jeonghan in his tracks. The singer then turned around and was met with Seungcheol's worried expression. Jeonghan felt guilty once again for making Seungcheol worry like that but he really didn't want to talk with Ara inside the room. He knew that he had to speak with Seungcheol about his odd behavior but having Ara there would only make it harder for him. Seungcheol tried again but Jeonghan just nervously shifted his gaze between him and Ara. Thankfully, Seungcheol understood the eye movement and asked Ara to leave.

"But Cheollie....we were having such a nice conversation just before." Ara pouted.

"I know, but maybe we can finished the rest of the conversation some other time. Right now I really need to speak with Jeonghan."

Ara looked annoyed at the mention of Jeonghan's name but then her attitude suddenly changed and she let out a fake gasp. "Oh my! Jeonghannie! I barely noticed you there! It has been so lonely with just me and Seungcheol....just the two of us. But don't worry, I made sure to take good care of Cheollie while you were away."

She was rubbing it in and Jeonghan knew it. Then, to throw him even more off guard, she made her way towards him and pulled him in for a hug. Jeonghan wanted to push her away but he glanced at Seungcheol through his peripheral vision and saw the older boy smiling at the sight of them finally "getting along" so he awkwardly hugged her back.

When she finally pulled away she gave him a smirk as she spoke in a hushed tone to him. "Don't hurt him. Cheollie just healed from that bruise you gave him a few weeks back." And then she turned around and said her goodbye to Seungcheol in an overly sweet tone before she finally left the room.

When it was just the two of them, Jeonghan saw Seungcheol try to get out of bed to move towards him but Jeonghan held out his hand as a sign for Seungcheol to stay where he was. Jeonghan hated to admit it but Ara's words had stung and they kept playing through his head as he saw Seungcheol attempt to get closer to him. He didn't want another accident to happen so it would be better if Seungcheol stayed on his bed while Jeonghan awkwardly stood some distance away from him. Again, guilt washed over the singer and he could only stand in on spot with his head hung low as he tried to think of what to say.

"Are you okay, angel?" Seungcheol finally broke the silence.

Jeonghan's head shot up after hearing the other call him by his nickname. "Yeah." he replied weakly.

"Are you sure?" Seungcheol asked again. "You're not still upset about that time I yelled at you....are you?"

Jeonghan didn't know what to say because how could Seungcheol even think that? Although, the leader seemed to take Jeonghan's lack of response as a yes and the other took a deep breath before continuing.

"Look, angel, I'm really sorry about that. I know I have a ty temper sometimes and this head injury has only made that worse...I know that's no excuse for how I reacted towards you that day but you have to believe me that I didn't mean to sound so harsh. Woozi told me how upset I had made you and I feel absolutely terrible...and then you stopped coming to see me after a while and I'm so sorry if I ever hurt you and-" But Seungcheol stopped his rambling when he saw a tear fall from Jeonghan's eye...followed by another...and another. "Jeonghan? Angel, why are you crying?" Seungcheol then made another attempt to come closer to Jeonghan but the crying boy stopped him again.

"No...just stay where you are." Jeonghan said through while wiping his flowing tears.

Seungcheol looked pained, more than Jeonghan ever seen him during these last couple of months and it only caused more tears to run down his cheeks.

", angel. Tell me what I did wrong? How do I make things better?" Seungcheol asked pleadingly, his own tears now threatening to fall.

"Why are you apologizing?" Jeonghan finally asked in a small voice.

"Because...I upset you and that's unacceptable." Seungcheol said like it was the most obvious thing in the world.

"No....if anyone should be apologizing then it should be me."

"Why? You did nothing wrong."

"How can you say that Seungcheol?! For the past month, all I've done is hurt you. It doesn't matter if it was by accident, I still hurt you!" Jeonghan replied with a frustrated cry. "How can I let myself be near you when bad things keep happening to you anytime we're together. Hell, the only reason you're in this ty situation in the first place is because of me! If you hadn't pushed me and Dokyeom out of the way that day then today you would be fine!"

"Yes! I would be but what about you and Dokyeom?! If I hadn't pushed you both out of the way then today it would be the two of you that would be in this position!" Seungcheol said angrily. "I made a decision to protect my members and I don't regret it. And you shouldn't either."

"Well I do!" Jeonghan said stubbornly. "I regret that you keep getting hurt by me and to solve it, I tried to stay away from you for as long as I could."

"Well no one asked you too!" Seungcheol yelled, but as soon as he did, he saw Jeonghan flinch so he took another deep breath and calmed himself down by counting to 10 before speaking again. "Angel, I don't want you to stay away from me. Did you even consider my feelings when you made this decision? That maybe, despite all of the accidents, I still want to be near you."

"Woozi asked me the same thing....he said that I didn't."

"Woozi's smart." Seungcheol said with a small chuckle.

"Well, I was thinking about your safety before your stupid feelings." Jeonghan said with a pout.

"Angel-"

"And why do you keep calling me angel? I would've thought that over the last few weeks you would've seen that I'm no angel. That's just some stupid nickname I gave myself because of my birthday. Almost everyone has stopped calling me that but you still continue to do it."

Seungcheol then laughed and finally got out of his bed to approach Jeonghan. When he was standing in front of the singer, he gently grabbed Jeonghan's right hand and held it in his as he caught the other's gaze. "I call you angel because you're my angel. You have been since our predebut days and that's not gonna change any time soon."

Jeonghan was blushing now. His face was still wet from the tears and now it was probably all red due to the heavy blush. He probably looked like a mess but if he did, Seungcheol didn't comment on it. He just continued stare and Jeonghan with a soft smile.

"Angel...please don't ever do that to me again. That time you spent ignoring me made me feel horrible. I think it hurt more than when that lighting equipment fell on me." Seungcheol joked and Jeonghan laughed back. "I missed you so much, I even marathoned fancams of you online! I felt like a Carat and you were my bias!"

"Shut up you dork." Jeonghan chuckled while letting go of Seungcheol's hand and lightly hitting the other. He didn't hurt Seungcheol this time and the older boy just chuckled back.

"No, but seriously, I was watching our old videos online. Do you wanna watch some with me? It's really fun to see how far we've made it!" Seungcheol sounded so excited to spend time with him that it was almost impossible for Jeonghan to say no even if he wanted to.

The two boys then got comfortable on the bed while Seungcheol grabbed his laptop and typed in the password to unlock it. When he did, the screen was open to a tab on YouTube and the current video was from their first reality show: SEVENTEEN Project. And as Jeonghan looked closer, he realized it was him on the screen along with the rest of Team A performing "No F.U.N." Jeonghan looked back to Seungcheol and the other gave him a sheepish smile.

"I told you I was watching our old stuff...and I really liked this performance. You, Hoshi and Wonwoo did a really good job. I especially liked your vocals in here...in fact, I think I've watched this one video over 5 times just for your part. I guess I really am becoming a Jeonghan stan."

"Shut up and press play you dork." Jeonghan said while blushing. But then he relaxed next to Seungcheol as they watched the video.

They were one they're third Seventeen MV when the door opened and Seungkwan's head popped through.

"Guys! They're finally done talking!"

Then the rest entered the room and they all smiled at the position they found their hyungs in.

"See Joshua! I told you we should've kept listening through the door. We missed all of the good stuff." Jun whined.

"Shut up dude." Joshua replied with a laugh.

"Hey, we're watching a bunch of our old stuff. Do you guys wanna join us?" Seungcheol asked. And that was how the 13 boys ended up struggling to fit onto the bed as they all huddled closer to marathon their own content that played on Seungcheol's computer. They laughed and they joked and everything was normal again and Jeonghan could not have been happier.
