It looked like Ellie would get off easily during the next Music Appreciation class. It seemed that Jae had been sent on errands early that class period, because he arrived to class late, but without any reprimanding from Barkley; they talked quietly to one another as the class finished up the rest of the movie. There had only been an hour left of the movie; when they finished they were assigned an analysis-summary to write, something that would most likely take the majority of the class a while to do, but Ellie could do in her sleep. She began immediately, pulling from what she could remember from the movie to put together the front-and-back page that had been requested of her.   “Okay, you guys.” Ellie paused, halfway down the front of the page, at the sudden sound of Barkley’s voice; she looked up to find him standing at the front, his leather work bag on his shoulder. “I have a meeting in ten minutes, so I’ll be leaving you in Mr. Park’s care for the rest of the class time.” With a nod of farewell he left the room, leaving them alone with Jae, who took a seat behind the professor’s desk and propped his feet up.   “As you were,” he said with a lofty wave of his hand. With a shake of her head Ellie went back to her assignment, putting her pen to work again. Her recollection of the movie ran out, and she ended up spending the rest of the class time tying all of her loose ends together, to formulate at least a passable assignment; she hoped that she could focus for the rest of the class, or else she would be forced to take it over during the spring semester, and the last thing she wanted to do was repeat.   Class ended and she tore the assignment from her notebook, taking the time to clean up the ripped edges before packing up her things. There were a few people at the front speaking to Jae as they turned their assignments in; he had moved to take a seat against the front of the desk, his hands resting on top of it as he spoke. Ellie took a deep breath and made her way up to the front, doing her best to remain unnoticed as she carefully placed her assignment on top of the others. Her efforts seemed to be successful; Jae kept talking, his eyes intent on the people around them. With an internal sigh of relief she turned to leave, only to be stopped in her tracks as the strap of her backpack caught onto something, making her turn to look; Jae had reached over and grabbed her backpack strap casually – without looking he pulled her back over to him slowly, nodding and answering a question as he did so.   Ellie stared at him incredulously, at a loss for words; his acquaintances glanced over at her uneasily but Jae paid her no attention, or at least he didn’t seem like he was – his grip on her backpack was tight, and it was clear that he had no intentions of letting go anytime soon. For a moment Ellie considered leaving her backpack behind – she had a shift to work in two hours – but she couldn’t bring herself to be that rash; instead she stood there, as patiently as she could, and waited for him to finish his conversations. As incredulous as she was of his antics, all of the thoughts that she’d had before about not trusting anything that came out of his mouth were eradicated just by being in his presence. She liked him, a lot – enough to play along with his many quirks. Only after everyone had left did he finally release her; Ellie adjusted her bag on her shoulders, frowning up at him.   “Is there something that you wanted?” she inquired, placing her hands on her hips.
