Ellie wasn’t sure why she bothered working in the city. AIAS covered the majority of her expenses through the four-year scholarship that she – and all of AIAS’s students – attended on, but she was used to working, and she liked her job and the café that she worked in; she had begun working there the summer before her first semester began, and had been there ever since. Regardless of this, a nice job and a good working environment didn’t change the fact that AIAS was forty minutes outside of the city of Los Angeles. The school had begun a charter bus line that shuttled students from AIAS to Los Angeles hourly, but it was still quite a journey to make, especially without a car.   Ellie had agreed to cover the first couple of hours of one of her coworkers’ shifts while they went to the doctor, but even though she left for AIAS at eleven, she still didn’t get back to her dorm until nearly 12:30; she had grumbled about taking other people’s shifts as she retreated to the shared bathroom at the end of her floor to wash the coffee off of her. She was most irritated because she still had to go to Music Appreciation class, and she hated not having a certain amount of time to herself before class began; she decided to spent the last hour of free time in the Angelou-Davis building because it was closest, and settled into an empty table on the first floor to write and clear her mind, without the concern of having to move too far when class time drew near.   She was in the middle of a page when the entrance door to the area she sat in opened, bringing a column of strong sunlight and a wash of warm air into the building that caught her attention and made her look up to take in her surroundings, and a glimpse of the newcomer; she froze at the sight of Jae entering the building, his guitar case gone for the day and his frame dressed in longer layers this time: a black, white vertical striped button up shirt over a white, black horizontal striped long sleeved shirt, again a size or two too big; a black hat was positioned at the back of his blond head, and his bangs fell completely forward this time. She didn’t realize how hard she had been staring until his eyes scanned the room and met hers; she immediately looked away, her heart racing as she looked back a
