It was slow at work, and Ellie was on a roll.   The morning and lunch rushes were long gone, and there were still a few hours to go before the dinner rush came; after tending to customers, the dining floor and the back bar, she parked herself in her usual place on the counter with a notebook and pen and zoned out of her reality, determined to make the most of her time stuck there, especially since they weren’t working with a manager. She wasn’t sure of how long she had been writing, but it seemed like a long time had passed without a customer approaching the register, allowing her to forget more and more about where she was, and get a full page of writing down, which was rare for one sitting at work.   “This is really bad customer service.” Ellie froze mid-sentence, unnerved by how ridiculously close this familiar voice was. After a moment Ellie looked up, only to find herself just inches away from a small, pale face; she leaned back immediately, alarmed.   “What are you doing?” she demanded.   “Being denied service.” Despite her alarm Ellie couldn’t help but roll her eyes, and shake her head at him. “I came to get a drink; can I get a drink?”   “You never get a drink when you come here.” Jae remained quiet, blinking at her expectantly. Ellie sighed, shaking her head again. “Fine, fine…” He ordered the green tea that he had gotten the very first time that he had come to see her; Ellie watched as he parked himself at her counter, sipping his drink leisurely as he watched a few customers come in. At first Ellie thought that she could leave him unattended and not worry about him, but she soon learned how wrong she was as he began harassing customers into buying more food.   “Jaehyung!” Ellie hissed, turning from the laughing customer to glare at him.   “What did I do?” Jae demanded, holding his hands out. “You at upselling; I’m doing you a favor!”   “Shut up!” There weren’t many customers after that small rush, and Ellie was relieved for it; as her coworker went about clearing up the back bar she marched back over to Jae, who was already halfway through his drink.   “Okay, what do you want?” she demanded, her hands on her hips. “If you don’t want anything, I’m putting you out.”   “Terrible customer service,” Jae declared, shaking his head; Ellie actually heard herself growl. “Okay, okay, I do want something.”   “Spill it, then.”   “So, I’ve been thinking…” Jae began, and Ellie raised an eyebrow. “We haven’t had our first date yet.” Ellie paused, and it was her turn to blink.   “What?” she questioned. “We…we haven’t?”   “Of course not.”   “Jae, it’s been a month,” Ellie pointed out. “What have we been doing for a month?”   “Courting.”   “Jae, what-?!”   “Look, the point is that we haven’t had a date yet,” Jae said, waving her off.   “You know what? Fine,” Ellie relented, reaching up to massage her temples. It seemed to have taken forever for her to wrap her head around the fact that Jae actually wanted to be around her, and liked her; she had hoped that the first date had long since passed. She froze in surprise as he reached out and grabbed her hand, holding it in his own.   “So, how about this weekend?” he inquired. “Will you go on a date with me?” The sight of Jae – weird, enigmatic, annoying Jae – saying such normal and romantic words sent Ellie’s heartbeat into over
