Shards of Us“Baekhyun oppa, I’m sorry,” she cried to him, but her tears weren't even worth the pity.
“Why did you do that?! Why?! Why?!” he screamed at Minji. “I've told you over and over again. There's nothing with us,” he pointed between the two of them. “There won't be anything. I appreciate everything you've done for me, but this?! This is too far don't you think?” His hair was a mess. His clothes no different. How could a woman make him look so miserable?
It had been a week since Minji kicked Hana out of their home. He couldn't think straight. He couldn't eat right. And, he spent his nights tossing around in bed for the smallest hours. He finally let himself free of all the documents waiting for him at his desk to pay a visit to Minji, as he promised.
Minji reached out to take a hold of his hand. She sincerely meant it. This time, she had to admit she went too far.
“Oppa,” she whined. Her hand touched his at the very slightest and he immediately pulled his away.
“Don't even touch me right now,” he sneered. “I don't even have any contact with her,” he fumed. He brought up the hand that held Hana's phone to her face. “I don't know if she's doing well, where she went if she even has shelter at all,” he ruffled his hair some more.
Minji contemplated if she should tell him that Hana was pregnant, but she glanced up and down his slender figure and decided against it. She would only do so if she wanted a death wish.
“I...I can help,” she stood behind his back. “Oppa, I'm really sorry. I got greedy. You're great, so great I found myself falling for you day by day. I just thought maybe if I got rid of her, you would finally look at me.” Minji stood still behind his back as if one move could collapse his world right now.
“I think you've done enough for now,” he left her standing in her office. It was his fault for leading her, for kissing her more often than he should have.
He closed his eyes as he sat in his car not so sure if he wanted to return to work. His heart crumpled at the realization of the importance of his wife. How much he had wronged her. It was so hard for him to trust her, but little did he know, her feelings for him were so mutual.
“This better be worth my time Minji. You told me you wanted to help, so you better not mess it up this time,” he said to her as they went over the details of the ball being held tomorrow for the umpteenth time.
“Don't worry, oppa. I have everything perfectly planned. I sent my driver to deliver the dress to your wife today. She should be getting it right about…now,” Minji smiled as she looked at the clock. “I still have a lot of work to do back at my office. I'll double-check everything before I go to bed tonight. And, here's this, just the way you ordered it,” she tossed the midnight blue velvet box to him. “Now, I shall get going. There's still lots to be done.”
Baekhyun gave Minji a nod of dismissal deciding that they would keep everything professional from now on. He sighed as he leaned up against his own desk after the door clicked shut. Stressed was an understatement. He was more than just stressed. Baekhyun was afraid, afraid that he really messed up this time. He swiped his phone open only to quickly close it. He repeated the action in hopes there would be a call from his wife or some kind of sign of life from her. He was willing to give her all the time she needed, but he had only hoped that she wouldn't stand him up tomorrow. He could already see the headlines…“BYUN INNOVATIONS OPENED, BUT WHERE IS HIS WIFE?” along with a picture of him distressed and the public making him a laughing stock.
She promised herself she wouldn’t show up at his house anymore. It was bringing him an unnecessary burden, but it had only been two weeks since Jongin’s return from New Zealand and the first thing she thought of was him after sh
