Prologue
Shards of UsHer heart thumped in rhythm along with the sway of the wind that whipped her hair back. The day wound down to an end as the sunset dropped below the horizon. A few lights shone brightly from surrounding buildings mirroring the sky above. It was a beautiful sight indeed, especially when she remembered she stood on the rooftop of the building Sehun called his.
It was silly he had the courage to claim the worn down building and even shamelessly share it with her, but somehow, even that thought, was not enough to leave her satisfied nor happy with their relationship tonight.
Memories replayed in her head. The male in front of her was the male that lifted her shoulders after a long day. He was the light to her darkening path, the dotted lines on her treasure map, and the same man who ruined her.
“How could you? I trusted you,” her words cried help, a desperate plea to hold onto everything they had left.
It was the question that swarmed her with regret and shoved her back into the shadows.
He stared her down as a small smirk formed upon his dry lips. He was still as bold as she remembered him the first time they met. He hasn’t said a word since they met up tonight but continued to watch her in amusement.
Her fingers curled into a fist as if she was ready to strike him. Her eyes searched his, for any sign of him still loving her--a hopeless chance she hung onto. Through her blurry eyes, he was not just Oh Sehun, the legitimate son and the one and only heir of Oh Enterprise, but also the ex-lover of herself, Hana.
“You told me you loved me, only me!” She vigorously pointed to herself.
As the anger surged pass the rational side of her, she brought her balled fist to strike the corner of his mouth. She heard him hiss in slight pain which served to satisfy her demons. Her own aches surged down her fingers, but they only numbed her more. The sight of his open wound encouraged her to be more confident against a liar.
“Anyone could have played you. You’re easy and pathetic. Wasn’t it obvious I was cheating on you, beautiful?”
He mocked her and raised his brows for emphasis.
“Ah, you see, Hana, I pity you. You were so blindly in love to not think twice about what true success is. I guess I might have lied when I said you were the best thing that has ever happened to me. Once Senior Oh steps out of office, it’s mine, Asia’s number one company. Second place is where you’ll always be if you’re lucky enough, and me? Steps ahead. Someone like you will only hinder success.”
She felt her blood boil. He knew he was targeting her insecurities and had no mercy. Never had she felt so betrayed and at such a loss of words.
“Why are you so surprised?”
He chortled as he swiftly made his way toward her with a casual saunter. His hand caressed her chin as he gave her a forceful kiss on the lips.
“Thanks for last night. I must say, you do have a nice body compared to your mind. What was your father thinking when he made you the heir to Kim Cooperation? You’re as clueless to business as a newborn to the world. I guess you almost nailed the connections part.” His words brushed the tip of her ears. Usually, it would cause her heart to flutter, but tonight it stung her heart.
She shoved him off, her strength oddly strong today. Sehun stumbled back a few steps. She used her fists to wipe h
