Shards of UsHis lips curved into a smile as his eyes focused on Hana. She dug into the food in front of her never letting that loose strand of hair bother her once. The way she ate satisfied him. Watching her made him full.
“When were you planning on telling me or anyone about this?” he suddenly spoke.
“About what?” She quickly looked up just to get a glance at her friend. Her innocence disappeared when she saw the look he gave her. “Soon.” She was only partially lying. In the midst of their arguments, the thought of telling him was still at the tip of her tongue. She continued to eat, wanting to avoid the next questions he had in mind. Jongin was a person with deep thought, but he also liked to state the obvious.
“Does he know?” he continued to ask as he fished a perfectly sliced piece of meat out of his hot pot.
She only shook her head in response, too busy searching in her own hot pot.
“Why Hana?!” he shouted a bit too loud and a few heads turned their way. Don't you realize this child could save your marriage?” he whispered as his head lowered closer to Hana’s. He placed the meat in her dish. The way she ate was also heartbreaking when he saw her rummaging through her dish for more meat.
“Yeah, but Jongin. What if I told you I lost hope. Look at it this way, if there was a really pretty actress you were trying to court, but all she ever did in return was turn you down, wouldn't you be heartbroken?” She gladly accepted the piece he gave her. For once Hana had tried to be reasonable, but Jongin was never a fan of smart mouths.
“Well, yeah. But, I'm not courting a beautiful woman nor are we fantasizing about people. This is the reality. A marriage shouldn't just be so easily thrown away. You can't hide a pregnancy.” He shoved a dumpling into his mouth. “You know what? I'll just call him myself,” he threatened. Jongin drew his phone out of his pocket and started dialing. He waved his phone in front of her to let her know he really meant it and all she could do was widen her eyes in panic as they waited for her husband to pick up.
“Hello. Baekhyun,...” The rest of the words came out muffled. Her left hand wrapped over his mouth. She reached over with her right hand. She tore the phone out of Jongin's hold to hang up on her husband.
“Alright, I'll let him know!” she said with anger and frustration and the same heads turned their way.
Jongin had his own tactics of getting things done his way. Their lunch at the restaurant played in her head as she sat in her vehicle. Her forehead rested on the steering wheel as she let out one loud sob. Had she really lost hope? She was so confused in what she wanted right now. Life was full of surprises and surprises meant no expectations. Her future was black-pitch. She took a deep breath. Jongin had asked her if she ever considered a nice conversation between the two. And, she wanted to say yes, but come to think of it, she's never spoken nicely to him for more than two mere seconds this last month.
As the chill air seeped through the car, the cold nipped at her toes and fingers. It was time she went inside. She looked at the vehicle parked beside hers once more. It was odd that Baekhyun hadn't left for work yet. Come to think of it, she hadn't visited the company for a while now herself.
It had been a while since they have had a decent conversation. She always cherished those moments. She walked up the stairs that led to the inside of their house. Each step she took, she gained more courage to just tell him. She began to anticipate who she was going to see inside. She headed straight up the stairs and to his room, a place she often found him in, only to find the bedsheets nicely laid out and everything in place.
