Chapter Seven
it's never a dull moment
With a smile on her face, Jiae walked into Joongdong High School. She was alone and had walked to school, which was rare for Jiae. Usually Jiae would get a ride from either Mingyu or Inha, but she hadn't seen or even spoken to either of them in about a week or so. Upon walking to her locker, Jiae spotted her best friend and boyfriend, apparently already waiting for her. Jiae's smile enlarged and she approached them with a subtle wave. However, neither Mingyu or Inha waved or smiled back, appearing to be upset about something. "What's wrong?" Jiae asked with her brows furrowed. Though Inha was often the type to be upset about something, Mingyu rarely got upset. "Jiae, why haven't you been talking to either of us?" Inha asked, being the first one to speak up and answer Jiae's question. "I've been busy, I'm talking to you both now, aren't I?" Jiae retorted with another question, not understanding why there was a problem in the first place. "That's not what we are talking about, Jiae, we never see you anymore. You're always doing stuff with prom, we are your best friends for pete's sake!" Mingyu replied this time, clearing expressing his disappointment towards Jiae's use of her own personal time. "But prom is important to me and to a lot of people, I can't just not help out or not do my share of work; I would just be selfish and lazy if I did that!" Jiae felt herself beginning to fume a bit. She knew she had to keep her cool, but it was certainly proving to be difficult. "Yeah, but just because prom is important doesn't mean that you can't try to find time for us." Inha countered back, already seeming to have lost her own cool. "I don't see what the problem is here. I don't understand why I'm being treated like some sort of criminal just because I want to help make prom fun and magical. I should be allowed to help out with prom and to be able to make new friends along the way." Jiae let out a frustrated sigh, trying to not to snap. "You know what? Call me when you want to be my best friend, because you're not being the Jiae I know and care about." Inha walked off, ending the conversation. The atmosphere was tense and cold, leaving only Jiae and Mingyu standing there. "Sorry Jiae, but Inha has a point." Mingyu sighed as he walked off to find Inha. Jiae couldn't believe what had just happened. Not only did her best friend get angry at her, but also her own boyfriend. She felt as if she had just lost both of them. Blinking back oncoming tears, Jiae opened her locker and collected her books for the first couple classes of the day.
"Jiae, are you okay?" Sungmi questioned as she looked at the girl in question. Jiae had her head down on the lunch table with her food untouched. "Yeah, are you not feeling well?" Rhea asked as well, worried that the girl might be sick. "No, I'm not fine but I'm also not sick." Jiae lifted her head up and began playing with the food on her tray. Ever since the argument she had with Inha and Mingyu this morning, Jiae just didn't feel right. She barely even had an appetite. "Well what's wrong? You can tell us, we are both here for you." Sungmi appeared worried, as did Rhea. "I," Jiae sighed feeling like she was about to cry all over again. "I got into a fight with Mingyu and Inha this morning just before class." Sungmi and Rhea looked at each other, shocked that Jiae actually got into an argument. "What was the argument about? If you don't mind us asking." Rhea asked, honestly curious about what had occured. It had to have been a pretty bad fight if Jiae was this upset over it. "I can't talk about it here, there are too... too many people who could overhear and misconstrue what was said." Jiae sighed once more, not failing to suprise both Sungmi and Rhea with the advanced vocabulary she was using. "How about we both spend the night at your place then? You can tell us there without anyone around." Sungmi suggested, trying to brush off her surprise at Jiae's increase in intelligence. Must be those tutoring sessions! "Alright, I could use the company..." Jiae mumbled as a small smile began to form. "That's it! Turn that frown upside down!" Rhea teased as she pinched Jiae's right cheek with a chuckle herself. Jiae smiled even bigger and chuckled a bit herself, seeming to return to her usual self again. "Thanks, I don't know what I would have done without you two." Jiae smiled, thanking the two responsible for her change of mood. "Don't sweat it, that's what we're here for!" Sungmi chuckled as well, having opened up herself after joining the prom committee. The three girls resumed their meals, all three talking abou
