Chapter 7
ButterflyChou woke up the next morning to a disturbing sight: a mental patient staring at her through cell bars. The look on his face was a mixture of shock and confusion.
"Hopi?" she asked, a bit scared.
He nodded slowly. "How do you know me? And why did you call me that?" His voice was damaged somehow- it was unnatural.
"Jungkook told me... And why, is that not your name?"
He shook his head. "My name is Hoseok. Jung Hoseok. But Hopi works."
Chou relaxed a bit. The boy was just as scared of her as she was of him. "Why are you called that?"
He looked up and gave Chou a tiny smile. "I wasn't always as hopeless as I am now."
Hopi backed away from the cell bars and pointed to a rusty, discolored metal button above Chou's bed. "When you want to be let out in the morning, as long as there's no lockdown, you press that button, and someone'll let you out," he told her.
Chou looked at the button. Strange, they give the patients their choice of when they want to leave, she thought. "Why? Why not just leave the doors open?"
