Chapter 5
ButterflyChou stood with her new "friend", Jeon Jungkook, on the edge of the metal platform overlooking the open cells of the patients. She mentally noted the height of the platform- it wasn't high enough for a person to die jumping from. Disturbing. Definitely note-worthy. Below them, various boys, all older than Jungkook, either wandered around, talked to each other, or acted in rather unusual ways.
"Who are they?" she asked.
"All of them?"
She nodded.
He took a deep breath. "There are altogether seven- now eight- of us. The oldest is twenty-three years old; I'm the youngest at eighteen."
"Tell me about all of you."
He looked a Chou, his devilish grin back on his face. "Why? Are you scared?"
Don't tell him too much, Chou. "Or maybe I'd just like to know. Seeing as we are now close neighbors."
He gave a small laugh at the comment. "Very well."
He pointed to one of the boys using a piece of concrete to scratch some words onto a wall. The boy had extremely light skin and dark hair, much like Jungkook, but this boy was much skinnier, almost to the point of gaunt. "That's Hopi," Jungkook told Chou.
"Why is he here?"
"Are you going to ask that for everyone?"
"You said all anyone cares about is why a person is in here."
"Yeah, but... okay." He cleared his throat while shaking his head slightly. "Hopi was caught after years of drug abuse and selling to people- most notably kids. When police caught his scent he took so many pills no one really has any idea how the hell doctors kept him alive. When he could talk, he said he did all of it because voices in his head told him to. Landed him the golden ticket into this heaven on Earth. He's got a talent for finding unique ways to kill oneself... for example, a few weeks ago he broke a lightbulb and attempted to cut his wrists using it. What's strange is when he's not freaking out he's actually quite nice. "
Jungkook then pointed to a brown-haired boy. "That's Park Jimin. He's in here for sororicide."
Chou's eyes widened. "As in the killing of one's sister?"
Jungkook nodded. "Yeah. Apparently when Jimin found out some things he'd rather not have known about his family he decided the best course of action was to fill a bathtub with water, drown his little sister, and then die the same way. However, Jimnie also found out that day that it's a lot easier to drown someone else than yourself. People had heard the girl screaming and called police, who got there before he could successfully make himself stop breathing."
The boy gestured to two boys, both with strangely colored hair who were talking to each other. "Min Yoongi and Kim Namjoon are our firebirds."
"Firebirds?"
"Meaning what they did to get in here involved setting something on fire."
He pointed to the white-haired boy. "Namjoon was working at a gas station one night when one customer in an SUV was rather rude in that he threw the payment out the window. Well, now, Namjoonie didn't exactly appreciate that."
Silence.
"Okay, what did he do?"
"He grabbed the nearest fire extinguisher, caved the guy's head in, and then lit a match in an attempt to blow up both the gas station and himself. The for
